Here at Slashdot, not following the group think will get you branded as a fool or a religious nut. Trying to explain to these sycophantic, narrowminded people that someone with a different view on a subject has considered their position with intelligence is a pointless effort.

    e.g.

Think that unborn children should be afforded the same rights as newborn children not only a minute old? Religious nut.

Think that the very idea of the Big Bang and the subsequent formation of the universe and all it's complexity is ridiculous at best and easily disproven with any number of astrological phenomina and physcial laws? Religious nut and/or fool.

Think that the religious crusade on human caused Global Warming is entirely politically motivated and backed by some of the most dubious science to have surfaced in modern history? Fool, ugly oil guzzling American.

Individuality is only accepted here as long as you toe the line on all issues of science, politic and hatred of religion, Bush, Republicans, Conservatives and Microsoft.

The entire point, you dumbass, is that they DO NOT want you as a customer. They aren't looking to sell 100 billion copies of OSX to all the Dell fanboys on the planet, they want to sell you an Apple computer, with OSX already installed on it. They don't give a flying fuck about your shittly little Dell laptop, nor what software it runs. They are a business, not a religious organization hell-bent on destroying Microsoft.

Why can't you people get it through their thick heads that Apple is about selling a complete package, not trying to compete with Microsoft and "win" the OS war, or whatever war happens to be waged in the computer world at this moment.

Don't you just love a thinly veiled "Ask Slashdot" post that's really about more Bush bashing? What Bush has done is nothing new. Clinton did it, as well as other Presidents before him, from *both* sides of the isle. The President has explicit authority by the US Constitution to do what is necessary to protect this country from foreign nationals that intend to do us harm, up to the point of declaring war, which is reserved for the congress.

I can't believe these cockmonglers at Next Generation have the balls to bitch at a company for recognizing that it's unable to compete with the BILLION dollar likes of Sony and Microsoft. What would they have them do, play "Console Wars III" until they waste every single cent of money they have in a market where the other two players financially dwarf them by an order of magnitude?

From where I stand, it looks like Nintendo took a step back, looked at the playing field and recognized that they have no chance to seriously compete with Sony and Microsoft in the high end console market. Really, what the hell would be the point? The 360 and the PS3 already have the bases covered and already have the developer support. What in the holy fuck would be the point of that?

Instead, they are going to offer a cheap as hell console that nearly anyone can afford, give it a unique controller and make it accessible. Are they going to impress the life-long, pimple faced virgins at Next Generation with endless Madden 200X, racing simulators and Movie franchise, shit-quality games? No... and I doubt they really give a flying fuck.

I'm buying a PS3 and I think the Revolution sounds interesting. For the $150 price point, if there are even one or two interesting launch titles, it will be worth checking out.

At least we won't have to sit in long lines to get one like the morons who were camping to get the 360. *snigger*

  14. Have any of you even tried this browser? on Firefox-based Social Browser Flock Launches · · Score: 1

This is so typical of crowd here at slashdot. The idea of even trying the browser is secondary to getting your cynical, acerbic and arrogant posts on the site.

It's about choice, you fools. You are bitching and whining about people being given another browser choice. It's hypocritical and ironic that nearly every post in this article is full of some weird blind rage about people blogging, or using other community services. What in the hell do you think slashdot is? Sure, it's fun to ridicule the emo crowd, but just because they blog, it doesn't make the rest of the bloggers useless.

That said, *GASP*, I actually gave Flock a try and you know what, it's a nice browser. A few more point releases and this might be my main browser at home. I fondly remember when FF .4 was a pretty good browser, but needed some work before I could use it all the time.

    Some of the good stuff:

Bookmark synchronization across browsers: This completely rocks. I can easily keep my bookmarks up to date in all my flock browsers, home, work, wherever I am. There is only one FF extension that I know of that does this and it does it poorly. The only caveat is that your bookmarks are public, so internal company bookmarks would be visible to the public, but to me the impact is minimal since my internal company bookmarks point to non-routable private ip addresses behind firewalls.

Bookmark tagging: As the mass of people who use Google mail know, tagging is far better than filing things in folders. I can now sort and group my bookmarks without having to deal with the tedious task of pouring through them, moving them to folders, etc.

Custom bookmark toolbars: This is one of my favorite features. Instead of the bookmark folders you have in Mozilla/Firefox, Flock uses what they call collections. Flat groups of bookmarks in the bookmark manager. The cool thing is that via a drop down menu, you can pick a collection to appear in the bookmark toolbar. Working? Reading the news, viewing porn? Just pick the collection you need to use.

User interface: The default skin is much nicer than FF. I know this is dependent on personal preference, but I think it has a nicer look. We need a Flock theme for FF. =)

Flickr integration: For those of us who use Flickr, the Flickr topbar is pretty slick and well done. My only wish is that you could pull up keywords instead of users.

Wikipedia search installed by default: This is also one of my favorites. Alongside Google, Yahoo and the other search engines in the url bar, Wikipedia is right there with them. This is easy to install in FF, but nice that it's included by default.

I think these guys have done a pretty decent job at integrating several widely used web services into the Firefox browser and have made damned good progress at enhancing and making the bookmark system usable again.

What exactly has happened here to cause all this outrage?

Hand it to Dvorak to take a thoughtful argument and throw in some utter bullshit (the ipod video comments) to make him sound like the hack he is. He's wrong about the video ipod in so many ways. TV episodes are NOT free, as you have to watch commercials (and pay with your time), or pay money for a TiVo-like service to remove them. You most certaily can not watch older episodes unless it's in syndication and you need the previously mentioned Tivo-like service to record them. Also, you don't need the iPod video to watch the TV shows. You are free to download and watch them right in iTunes. Fuck you Dvorak. You are as biased as those you are bitching about. Instead of discounting out of hand, any product that Apple creates, why don't you give it some intelligent consideration first?
