    They can easily move their mod chip manufacturing out of Hong Kong, and market them through flea markets, swap meets, and street vendors rather than online or in conventional retail outlets. This would probably get under Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo's radar. Economics 101: anything demanded will be supplied.

    Using stock photos in "testimonials" is something low-budget spammers do. Did Microsoft really think we wouldn't notice? They could do some TV commercials with stock footage. Do they use the Ed Wood ad agency?

    Advertisers don't "get it" why Gen X isn't buying their crap. We have figured out that marketing and lying have become synonyms, and we don't like it. Anybody remember the movie, Crazy People? Dudley Moore wanted to use honesty in advertising, and they locked him up in the nuthouse. The ads worked, though.

    Colleges and universities depend on academic freedom, that is the free flow of ideas and information. Enforcing copyrights for Hilary Rosen and Jack Valenti is a step down a slippery slope that will eventually kill academic freedom. Use of copyrighted material in an academic climate has always been fair use. We cannot let greedy corporate robber barons destroy higher education to protect their bases of power, and their ottom lines.

    Zoe Lofgren's bill is much better, but due to its more conservative language, Bouchers's may be more passable in the Republican House. It's a shame it includes nothing about shrinkwrap EULAs. Since the two bills are different in many aspects, Maybe both could pass. That would be like eliminating the DMCA all together. It would be great.

    Slapp suits waste the courts'time and taxpayers money. They also have a terrible chilling effect on free speech. If anyone who brought a slapp suit and lost had to pay out the same amount he was seeking to those he sued, these clowns would stop filing them.     Yes! now there are two good guys! Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose and Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Virginia. We need a lot more in Congress who will stand up for our rights, instead of selling us out to big business. Tara Grubb, if elected would be a third defender of fair use.
