does that mean no more overpriced proprietary memory cards? It really burned me up to pay 25 bucks for 8mb of flash for my ps2 when I ran out of save space, especially when the reason I ran out of space was most games set aside entire chunks of memory for multiple saves, not just what they need for the one or two saves I've got.

  4. Re:cheap and fast always wins in console gaming on Sony vs. Microsoft, Tortoise vs. Hare · · Score: 1

  5. I didn't like it on Classic Star Wars Trilogy Finally on DVD · · Score: 1

too much talky. There's the old saying show don't tell. I don't know, it just seemed a lot like the kinda crap that eps I, II and III where full of (especially II). Pointless crap that belonged on the editing room floor. Still cool to see though.

  6. It's the pokemon effect on Why is Kingdom Hearts II So Popular? · · Score: 5, Insightful

you hit every market. Boys like the figting, girls like the pastel collars and disney characters, hardcore gamers dig square and the graphics, it's easy enough for casual gamers. Pokemon did the same thing, that's why it was such a phenomenon. If you can make something that appeals to everyone (not po'ing your hardcore fans is an added bonus), you'll make money hand over fist.

  7. Man, you rock on Next-Gen Shift Costing Sony and Microsoft · · Score: 1

  8. Durability? on Asus PW191 LCD Review · · Score: 1

I've heard bad things about the life-span of LCDs, and that they're not repairable. I don't mind my $130 dollar crt croaking after 2 or 3 years and not being worth fixing, but if I'm gonna drop $400+ on something it damn well better hold up for at least 10.

  9. I'd kill Abandonware on Abandoned Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

if I was a publisher (and profits mattered more than games, I know a few for whom they don't). Right now I'm sitting on a stack of 40+ PSX/PS2 games I'm dying to play. There's probably another 10 or 20 'classic' games I want to spend serious time with. Then there's the whole MMORPG thing. And then you've got games like Morrorowind and Oblivion with 300+ hours of gameplay. How the hell is a publisher suppose to sell new games in a market like this? It was fine when the common folk were first getting into games. All those 20-something's buying Final Fantasy VII and Madden 2kX did a fine job driving growth. But pretty soon publishers are going to run smack into the wall that is their own back catalog.

  10. Funny thing on Useful Apps for First-Time Windows Users? · · Score: 1

I didn't like iTunes for Windows, it's just too slow. Searches took too long/were too laggy. It's not like my hardware isn't up to snuff: Athlon 2100+, 512 mb ram, nforce board, 7200 rpm ata 133 drive. The ironic thing is that Juk, the iTunes clone under KDE/Linux, works great. Still, I'm kinda stuck in Windows at the moment. I've been using Winamp. The UI isn't as nice, but it's fast.

  11. Old PCs draw less power on Where Computers Go To Die · · Score: 2, Informative

then new PCs. e.g. my 200mhz dell's processor pulls 30 watts as opposed to my Athlon's 90. You really only see low power PCs in business and desktop environments (and laptops). Most users are still buying cheap Dell Boxen with 300 watt power supplies running full on.

Besides, once you hit 200-300 mhz with a tnt/rage128 class graphics card you can do any 2D task you care to name. That was a major concern for PC venders back in the day: how are we gonna get people to upgrade when this year's models are only sightly better? luckily Microsoft to the rescue with bloatware 5.1 SP2, but you can still get by quite nicely with a pared down Linux install running Abiword/Gnumeric/Firefox.

could you toast marshmallows with a light sabre. On the one hand, there's plenty of energy, on the other hand the energy doesn't seem to go very far from the blade. I'm sure if you just touch the blade to the marshmallow it'll just vaporize though. Perhaps a wise Jedi, skilled in the force, could do this. Or maybe force lightnight. I guess you could heat a rock with a sabre and then toast with that, but it's just not the same.

or lack thereof is what makes phishing work. 20. That reminds me on Revolution Horsepower Revealed · · Score: 1

  23. Re:Gameplay? on In Defense of FFXII · · Score: 1

FF's I, II and III where pretty deep with a lot of choices that could effect the game. IV and V had complex job and leveling systems and VI had a ton of options for each character and several really tough boss fights. Even VII had a good chunk of real gameplay (mini-games, chocobo raising, etc). It wasn't till VIII that it started to stray from gameplay, and even IX was trying (even if the chocobo search game fell flat, I think they still wanted a gameplay driven rpg). X, X-2 and now XII is where the series really became slap-the-controller-on-your-butt-and-win easy. Kinda sucks, but at least Tri-ace and Factor 5 are still making gameplay driven rpgs. And there's always Oblivion.

It means when IE takes a dive I don't have to shell to a command prompt to get it fixed (and deal with MS's lousy command line tools). It's never been that hard to separate the two (you just dupe the dlls and reg entires).

  25. It's like saying "Politician" on DRM More Important Than Life or Security? · · Score: 2, Insightful
