Pro photographers won't balk at the cost of Photoshop. Lightroom works great for amateurs. It does 95% of the things that I've really needed to edit on any of my photos. Just like most things in life, that extra 5% of usability is going to cost you 5x as much;)
I would imagine that a large number of photographers have switched over to Adobe Lightroom. It's tailor made for photo work (workflow, organization and processing). It's a very nice piece of software and a lot cheaper than PS CS3!
It's travelling at 1/500 of the speed of light... so for the most part, you can ignore relativistic effects. And it's Special Relativity that deals with time dilation and relativistic mass, not GR.
Well until Blizzard puts more horsepower to use on their higher population servers, having 100's of Horde/Alliance in the same zone at once is just a quick way to a server crash;) I believe that happens whenever some Alliance get together to raid into The Barrens or horde raid Duskwood;) Hillsbrad is pretty laggy near Tarren Mill or Southshore when raids go on as well.
Heck, just try running around Ironforge in the evening... chop chop chop! The Auction House draws tons of players and the server can't keep up. I grouped up with some people to do the Gnomeregan instance and we were encountering 10-20sec server side lag before we could get into the instance. Argg.
Big difference between casual observer and what the people doing the modelling are doing;) To predict the EXACT track/intesnsity/storm surge/rainfail is going to be impossible...there are just way too many factors that determine what any particular storm will do at any given time. Same thing with earthquakes, flashfloods, tornadoes, etc. Have you read any of the Discussions on the National Hurrican Center's website for storms? They have many different models and then try to figure out which one is more accurate...and it's not where the storm was or is that's important, but what's going on in the atmosphere all around it... it's not something simple. And it's hard to make accurate predictions with limited data. And the predictions are getting better... I'd imagine the area of coastline that got smaked by Charley was under a hurricane warning at the time of landfall, right?
Everyone that lives in hurricane prone areas SHOULD be prepared for this type of thing. I'd rather be overly cautious with a major hurricane barrelling down on me... If you don't like dealing with the possibility of tropical cyclones, move inland:)
You mean like what happened with some of the Patriot missiles during Desert Storm? The so called experts screwed that up, who's to say that closed source projects won't do so again in the future?
We just had our monthly Systems meeting this morning and one of the topics the director had was how we were going to upgrade/continue our open access public web terminals. Unfortunately we are shackled in with a MS only print solution now...and I have my doubts that we will be allowed to migrate to a Redmond-free solution.
They have had a dark fiber ring up and running for a while now and have just started offering free wireless service in the downtown core...unfortunately they are hitting the North-South streets before going East-West. Wonder if I can get any signal at my apt...hrmmm:)
Here's the project's website, not very up to date though.

I think they are going to be leaving out the whole "Scouring of the Shire" part of ROTK book, so they had to switch speeds a little on the movies to account for that. And ROTK is the shortest of the 3 "books", IIRC... so moving the Shellob part to the 3rd movie makes sense.
Actually I was making a point more about if congress ever tries to pass some stupid laws about who can broadcast where... no doubt they would favor their large campaign donors;)
I guess the reverse could be said, what about adjacent properties from the ballpark? Couldn't they just prohibit the baseball park's signal from their own property? The knife can cut both ways.

I haven't had a chance to read Martin's books yet...but I do have the first 3 in softcover waiting for the series to end (got burnt on too many long, never-ending series - thanks Mr. Jordan:P ). A few other authors you might want to try would be Tad Williams, Robin Hobb and Steven Erikson.
The Science Fiction and Fantasy World website has a pile of info from News and Reviews to their user forums.

There is a very large difference between speed and momentum, right? Momentum is a vector and speed is a scalar. When you bounce a ball on a wall, the wall is moved, if only by a small amount. Same goes with photons...they do have a momentum and when they hit an object and bounce, they do give a small impulse to the sail.
Another case of a studio double dipping a DVD release. There doesn't seem to be anything really new in this case. I'll vote with my wallet, by not using it. If they were to have a whole new video transfer to clear up the defects in the original release and have a nice new dynamic audio mix (the original DVD's audio mix seemed very flat), then I would certainly spend the money. But I don't believe that this will be the case.

I don't think generals would put up with the long waits in Queue that have been plaguing most servers since the last "emergency patch" 2 weeks ago ;)
So what were the error bars from these studies? Anything more than 1% is going give totally meaningless results ;)

I'd like to know how you are using the LCD to compose a photo with a DSLR ;) I'd think that the mirror would kind of get in the way of that :P
It makes no difference which one of us you vote for. Either way, your planet is doomed. DOOMED!
