The first uses of the INDUCE act is the RIAA etc use it to shut down P2P. After that what happens is the fallout of a badly written law and IPOD's go away, after which all Tivo's, all computer HDTV cards, TV-tuner cards, PC-cable-TV cards. Next in line will be Creatives current crop of sound cards. Any technology that allows you to do digtal-analog-digital at high quality will be outlawed. Creative will have to make new ones with built in DRM. All of Linux will have to have DRM or be outlawed. Any storage medium without DRM built in is outlawed.
A 3 year old can distinguish between a reality and fiction, to quote a 3 year old "You have to kill 3 more zombies before you can use that again Daddy". This from a 3 year old watching her father frag things in Doom3. Now if only our state legislatures had that kind of maturity.
I play Korean Company Nexon's Shattered Galaxy online and chats in German, French, Chinese, while not common can be seen. Most Koreans apparently play the Korean version Tactical Commander. In game English works most of the time. Its easy to specify enemy locations, Arbs(Enemy Artillery) E5. That is understandable in all languages. I have heard of attempts at auto translatiion by some online companies but do not know of their progress.
That is really a pain. I image all my game CD's and use daemon tools to mount them. I play upto 4 different games a night. Currently playing Fallout Tactics, Rise of Nations, NWN and Shattered Galaxy. I hate having to switch CD's. This driver will make it so even games that are not protected by it cannot no longer be mounted virtually. If I have to reformat my HD to get rid of it if I install a game that has it, I am going to have a serious talk to the game company using it if it costs me 3-8 hours to wipe my HD and reinstall all my games and utilites from scratch. I used to bill my time at US$200/hour. I should send a bill to the gaming company for putting a virus on my system that just cost me a day's work.
Zero out the tagged areas, calculate the MD5 for the modified tar ball and post it. If the tar ball has been verified by the community to be r00tkit free then we can use that MD5 with some confidence. It will require work by the community to verify and checksum the tar ball each time a new release is posted.

I have the DTI3D-2018XLQ monitor. It works by creating zones of view. You keep your head placed so that each eye is in a different zone. As a result you see a different image with each eye and get a 3D effect. You cannot read fine text id 3D mode. The only game I had where I could read the text was the Star Wars Racer game. First time I played Never Winter Nights with the monitor I got killed by fire giants in a forest glade because I was too busy admiring the view.
this is a link to how the technology works.

I had laser corrective surgery done about 6 years ago. It took about 3 years before I stopped seeing halo's around lights. But I did get a little better than 20/20 vision. My vision has detiorated again but not to the extent I need glasses again. I was so short sighted I could not see more than a couple of inches in front of my eyes. Fortunately I have really thick cornea's and it only took the surgeon 1 operation to get it right. He considered me a challenge to his skill to be able to do it in one operation. I chose a eye surgeon who was doing several hundred patients a year at that time.
The only scary thing about the whole thing was after the surgery when I was in a waiting area. I heard the surgeon shouting at the next patient. The patient had managed to squeeze her eyes shut in a panic when he started the procedure, ejecting all the clamps holding her eyes open during the surgery and almost blinded herself permanently.
My best advice is to find a surgeon who does it a lot ie has tons of experience.
Got my case all setup for this. Koolance water cooled case, 600W Enermax power supply. Just waiting for the cards to come out and I can get 2 watercooled 6800's. Quiet and fast.:)
Hmmm, spend all this $$$ on a super fast graphics and processor monster and spend 90% of my gaming time playing a 800x600 resolution game without any graphics accleration at all and requiring very little cpu resources. Sounds resonable to me.
Gimli: Certainty of Death, small chance of success. What are we waiting for?
This would be awsome, I went with a liquid cooled system as it was much quieter. It still generates some noise tho. Now the thing to do is build a really big noise suppressor into my car so that I can automatically suppress all those idiots with the super woofers in their cars thumping their way down the streets.
Those RFID tags which let automatically pay toll also tell records when you passed thru the booth. That data is kept. There is not much data there but it is enough to track your movements. That camera system in that town can be used to follow you from your home to your place of work or from work to that secret motel rendezvous. Anyone want to calculate how many terabytes of storeage these guys are going to need to keep 3 months of pictures from all those cameras?
This looks interesting, at this generation it looks to be dedicated applications. You code for your particular application and use their compiler which restructures the CPU to optimize for that application. What it does not say is if the hardware changes are read/write. If you release a maintenance patch to your application, do you have to swap in a new CPU for optimal performance? If the area is read/write just how many times can you change the CPU instruction set? Can you change the CPU instruction set with something else other than using their compiler? That is using a microcode release that rewrites the CPU. I would not want to load a compiler onto every one of my products.
With Trillian or some other 3rd party chat software chats can be automatically logged. Also what happens to in game chats? The law would also have to apply there too. If you are recording the game for playback all ingame chat is recorded as well. Do you need permission to record your frag?
It can get small enough that it may be a pair of glasses, incorporated into a hat, a diadem, a broach, medallion etc.. If it were set up to automatically upload all images to a service all the time. What happens if you get mugged? By the time your mugger gets to the camera his picture has been stored on your service's server. If something newworthy happens near you, and you catch it, I am sure the news channels would bid for your images. However if you commit a felony and the police supoena your images you land yourself in jail. Privacy problems abound around public facilities as no one wants to have their pictures snapped and put on the net. You may also be slapped in jail for child porn if you are wearing it and changing your kids diapers at the same time.

ESPN is probably the most expensive channel for a cable company to provide. I would drop it given a choice, its not even programmed into any of my TiVO's or TV's. The only channels I am interested in are the Sci-Fi network, premium channels, and news channels.
A PC is cheaper than a HDTV/console combo. I watch TV at the same time while I am playing computer games, not possible with a console games, unless I buy another TV.
I do not see one or the other dying actually. What I expect is a merger of the two. I see the Xbox evolving into the M$ version of the Macintosh.
I am pretty sure China would love "trusted" computing. They could use it to insure that none of their citizens are running any unapproved software or reading any unapproved literature. The same with the Middle East, the mullahs would be able to restrict all heretical materials from reaching any of their people.
What would be interesting would be the back doors the NSA, FBI or CIA would insist M$ put into the architecture. Without the back doors, keystroke loggers and other spyware that they use to collect evidence would not work.
1 in 4 downloaded a movie, is that in 1 year or entire span of internet? Also define a movie, 5 min pr0n clip a movie? or is that a MPAA movie?

Try Shattered Galaxy. www.sgalaxy.com for a massively multiplayer online RTS instead of a RPG. Its free.

It is getting near election time. Time to remind these senators who actually votes them into office and keeps them there.

Remember who you are voting for this November, he/she is the one who is going to pass or kill this legislation.
Its not DRM overhead. Its the CGI Bill Gates that pops up on your computer in place of Clippy that requires all that processing power!

How soon before they put a LCD display into the mousepad and have it change pictures every hour or so?

Bush now has an excuse for invading Canada! We have to invade to protect our IP rights!

If only takes a small amount of power to change the pixels why not attach a small solar cell rechargable battery combo to the e-ink-book?
