The critics are assuming that the gamers lack the ability to determine the difference between reality and fantasy. The gamers probably have a better lock on reality than these critics.
Won't take long for modders to change the ad stream to a 15 second pr0n stream instead. Then we can watch our Congress get all heated up about that too. Duh, yeah, lets ban any game that can be modded by taking on some tits on it. Next they will want to ban publishing the constituition because someone published it as a tattoo on some naked woman.
It all depends on which end of the gaming spectrum you are looking at. The High end, hard core gamers have no problem dumping US$8k on a water cooled, dual SLI 6800 ultra rig. They want the best and they have the $$$ for it. There is no way a console going at $300 can even come close to that performance level. All consoles will always take a backseat to its big brother the PC. When a console can do 1920x1200 resolution (my standard gaming resolution), a PC will be able to do more with 40K+ rigid bodies. Its all a matter of which market you are addressing. People have been predicting that Consoles will kill PC Gaming for years. What is a present day console? It is a very low end PC subsidised by the manufacturer and paid for with massive licensing fees to the game makers.
Hmmm, they got/.'ed. I was at Pixar when they were working on a Bug's Life. They had insects pinned all over the walls at that time. Their primary render machines at that time were Sun 4000's housed in cool computer room. The machines were all racked up very neatly in a room with a glass wall, with the lights turned off all you saw were lots neat rows of blinking lights. It was cooler than where Disney was working on Mulan, that place was just confusing.
GPS will tell them where you are, speeding is dependent on location as well as absolute speed. 55 may be slow on a highway but on a suburb, it can be well over the speed limit.
Can they ticket him for speeding because according to the GPS he was speeding on the highway? If so is it legal for the police to just install this on anyone's car so as to catch speeders?
It would be more likely that a smart gun will fail because the handgrip or smart gun owners hand got fouled up after being dropped in mud because of a struggle.
If a smart gun only works with the legal gun owner, can fully automatic smart guns be legal? If the gun ballistics are registered along with the gun owner and only he can fire that weapon. The same with.50 caliber weapons, now illegal in California. {/sarcasm probably because robbers generally carry.50 caliber rifles when robbing a gas station.:p \sarcasm}
Given that a recent survey has pointed out that nusery rhymes had more violent content than video games, I think he has to ban them as well. He should also ban all news channels for showing the violence in Iraq and American Cities. Add to that banning all the violent Saturday Morning kids programming, ie Power Rangers, Spider Man, X-Men, etc.. which all depict violent acts of one sort of another.
I stopped playing PBM games almost 10 years ago. The one that I really enjoyed the most was LEGENDS by midnight games. (http://www.mgames.com/) It was awsome. Had a character go from being the mayor of a small town with a bunch of aides to ruling flying cities with hundreds of thousands of troops. Ended up with a Dragon as one of the 40 characters I had to play with. I tried some 20 or so other PBM games and nothing ever came close to LEGENDS.
Yup. Had that done too. My friends tell me that the antibiotics actually altered my personality during that period. I have no clue if that was accurate that was only their assessment. I was "immunized" against TB as a child in my country of origin. In the US my allergies were causing me coughing spasms that went on for months. My old doctor put me on those drugs for months since I reacted positively to the skin test. I changed doctors, the new one prescribed Claritin and my coughing spasms went away.
Did not think much of it. I am already running on a SONY 23" monitor. I consider it out of date and am expecting my Apple 30" LCD in 3-4 weeks. The biggest problem I have having is locating a GF6800 Ultra to drive the new monitor.
I doubt that this will work. The firmware that is in use on most devices is a Linux or BSD derived type of Unix. Making USB incompatible with Linux would exclude the firmware on a lot of devices.
Really simple what will happen here. Chose M$ longhorn or Linux where none of this BS will reside. With the strides the Linux Desktop will be making, by the time Longhorn comes out, the Linux Desktop will do just about everything you need sans the DRM. I see the RIAA trying to outlaw Linux with something akin the "Induce" act within a few years.
That is an interesting reinterpetation of history. There was something called the Dark Ages that impeeded scientfic progress for hundereds of years, and I belive it was directly related to something called religion, Chirstianity in particular.
Remember what was said about the Japanse "toys" and then their cars. Now look at where they are at with the electronics industry and the car industry. Then it was said that all the Japanese were good at was taking American ideas and manufacturing them. Well now a lot of new technology patents for new R&D fields are all Japanese. The only difference between China and Japan will be that China will do it a lot faster.
China knows that it is way behind in technology, so it is establishiing technology enclaves where its people can learn and train up to catch up fast. This is opposed to the US where biotech is being squahed by the right wingers, and info tech is being restricted by the copyright holders and the US goverment. The US is also pushing all its high tech manufacturing industries offshore, China is offering really good terms for moving those industries into China.
Project 20 years from now, all our weapons systems are dependent on hardware and software from China. Our millionaires will be running to China for longetivity treatments etc..
Developments like this in Japan and other countries tell me the the US not losing its technological edge it has already lost it. Japan patents brand new tech like this while in the US we patent SUDO and 1 click shopping.
I am not surprised that M$ would something like this. M$ has proved time and again that they are no longer an innovative software company. Their marketing pukes reflect this, they have no concept of the internet and its ability to dispel FUD with actual facts. They have yet to realize that all the FUD they come up with comes back at them negatively within hours not days. If they actually spend all those $$$ dumped into FUD campaigns into R&D they would do a lot better.
Heh, more like stop off at the Burger King stand for xtra hit points. Quaff a coke for 10 hp etc.. Hmmm, Smith and Wesson ads? Stop off at Colt to get the latest in alien stopping power.:)
What I really hate is copy-pasting from MS-Word to other applications and it converting "-" to "?". Or having invisible bullets show up. Biggest headache is the the auto-Capitalization of words I do not want capitalized.
What is means is that the alphabet soup guys can tap into the phone calls of civilians, and the dumb terrorists. The organised crime cartels and well trained terrorists will use encrypted messaging or not use the internet at all. Or more simply encode messages into pr0n jpegs and email them to each other. I would be very interested to know how the US is going to force this down the throats of all the other nations.

Prior to the annoucement Veritas was trading slightly below $25.

When can we expect the Enterprise crew eating Burger King burgers or shots of the crew quaffing down a Samuel Adams?
Is it product placement when in a crime drama they identify the weapons used by the heros?
They will probably pass a law that requires you to watch 1 hour of commercials a day.

Does this mean they also prohibit the use of cordless phones utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency?
