    Freedom applied selectively isn't freedom. Nobody in their right mind supports NAMBLA, or the KKK or any of those freak organizations, but that doesn't mean we have the right to silence them.

    I take it you've never given to the Red Cross. They've been hounding me since last september.

    I know it's a bitch to be hassled, but you've got to remember that they really don't have a choice. They need money badly, and people won't get off their asses and write a check unless they're constantly pestered. If you want to bemoan something, it should be the reluctance of your average joe to support charities.

    I drive a late 60's karmann ghia. No computers, no power anything, and you know what? The fucker runs. It gets me from point a to point b and sometimes point c on the weekends. Geek that I am, I just love how low tech that ride is.

    Actually, Real caused a little stir in the OS X world when they released their player recently. It turns out that people missed it pretty bad.

    I don't think anyone actually enjoys using real player, but it's pretty firmly entrenched for now.

    Lots of individual os x apps let the user control font smoothing. Internet Explorer and Office v.X are two prominent examples of this.

    I like that debian waits until they know something is stable before they release it.

    Cutting edge is loads of fun, too, but sometimes I just need to get my work done.

    More frequent releases != better software. I'll be sticking with my older, stable releases for now.

    No, you're not missing anything. I prefer my fonts big, clunky, and hard to read. I know, it's kooky. I just wish it was a user preference.

    Yeah, but there's no way I can see to disable font smoothing. I understand that most people thing font smoothing is the best thing since gravy fries, but I can't stand it in a browser.

    comp.lang.php is a good resource for php info. It's fairly new so you might have to harass your isp's nntp admin to get it.

    I don't read it, but you might try alt.php as well.

    My time is certainly not worthless. In fact, I get paid a considerable amount of money to do unix (FreeBSD) administration. I'm a reasonably good BOFH, so I don't catch hassles from anyone.

    On the other hand, the average MCSE can expect a career in middle management, getting crapped on by everyone in their organization. Their skills will go largely unutilized, as they will spend the majority of their day fighting viruses, random windows crappiness, and idiotic users who really should be programs. After you do this for 50 years, you can look forward to a crappy retirement in the hell you've built for yourself.

    I'm not being overly subjective, am I?

    I'm burning karma pointlessly, and no one will read this anyway.

    I didn't mind having respectable karma when it was just a number (hell, I whored my little ass off to get there), but I refuse to be associated with the word "Good". I think it would feel much better to be "Bad".

    So, this is me, falling slowly (or not so slowly) back into the comfortable 0-5 karma range. I'll probably dip down into -1 for a while just for the hell of it. Back in the day, I was a pretty good troll.

    Oh, and by the way, fuck all this troll grouping shite. I'm sure it's nice to have something to mindlessly blather on about and poison your .sigs with, but it's getting stupid.

    Whatever happened to the art of trolling? The whole idea is to prove that your takers are fools, not to annoy them. Crapflooding, PWP, and all that were sometimes funny, oftentimes creative, but now it's all old hat, isn't it? Nobody even tries for a bite anymore.

    Trolling was once a noble, intellectual game. Now it's just a bunch of fuckwits copying and pasting.

    Lame.
