We train dogs here. Black labs mostly, for both obedience trials and agility trials.... the most unlogical thing in the world, from a person's point of view, is a young puppy experiencing her world....
Not defensive, but unable to see the "proof" that violent video games cause people to act violently. And as for being secretly afraid, I would be more concerned that an abusive childhood would lead to violent behavior than playing Doom or any other shooter.
You do concede the point that parents should be more responsible, but they should hold themselves responsible, rather than pointing fingers at any/everybody else.
Neither -- games are not the cause of violence, neither are they a symptom. Are violent movies, music, or books causing violence? No, they aren't. Violence is (unfortunately) part of the human condition.....
Haven't we done this before? It remains a tragedy that this highly-litigious mentality we live under (here in the U.S.) convinces us that we are not responsible for anything that happens to us, that is always somebody else's fault. This suit is a farce and a travesty; with any luck at all, it will be thrown out of court... but not likely.
If I remember correctly, this is movie we are discussing here....
I skimmed the article referenced here and then read through a majority of the postings about the article.... It is just a movie, guys Just like trekkies or Star Wars fanatics (do they have a nickname?) or LOTR droolers, most of you are making way too much out of this motion picture.
This was a script written by a couple of guys who used some originality, but also some previously-used themes/ideas/etc and shot it with some kewl effects/cinematography/etc...... please don't forget the one (1) purpose of the matrix... profit for Warner Brothers...not your enlightenment, not the creation of a new geek religion, but to hook you into watching/buying their movie and the next two....
Neo is not necessarily indicative of "The One"; it is merely an alias that means 'new' or 'different'.....
I don't think that he 'does not know' about EMP or AI, but rather is still in shock from being pulled out of the matrix into reality and is simply not sure what the hell Morpheus is talking about... so he asks..
Now that we have all these distributed computers running the same software that can be hacked/exploited... we can now stop looking for our Beowulf clusters -- just rewrite...
and just where is Jeff Goldblum when we need him; we could ask him to write up a virus on his Mac and just let it sit there on our hard drives and when the aliens get to that file: BOOM!
From now everything I do will be encrypted. In fact, here goes: daqe8= adk983jd a8wee dadiiq11.
Now, if that was felony-related material, come and get me.... This is getting ridiculous. Granted, more logical minds may prevail and this won't happen....but who knows? Will encrypted lies to your girlfriend or wife become punishable? How about encrypted websites where you give a false email address to avoid the spam?
I haven't even had breakfast yet, but I am supposed to run into the bedroom, uncover my wife and rub my (unwashed) armpits on her mouth so she can have a great day???
What else did I not know on how keep women happy???
And I am sure she will understand when I do this....
Wasn't everyone denying its existence not too long ago??? A massive coverup/whitewash job followed by, "Oh, by the way, we have this, we are using, and look what we did with it...."
While this one instance may be a good thing (at least the results appear to be), what else is Echelon being used for???
Benchmarking (and it's little sister, overclocking) are just another way geeks measure each other's dicks.... yeah, I know, crude and not politically-correct, but it is the truth.
A benchmark can be used to stress a system, to determine if all components are running correctly, or to show off. So far, everybody who is complaining about 3DMark 2003 is using it to show off.... I have run this benchmark on my DirectX 9-compliant system and have determined that all my components are working correctly... my benchmark scores are comparable to other similar systems, some higher and some lower -- in the grand scheme of things, however, who cares?
ATI likes it and nVidia doesn't -- so what. Build your system, run the benchmark, jump in the mix and start bitching about your lousy score....
I actually subscribed to Shift, but never received all the issues I paid for... no answer from several emails I sent to them. This was about 2 years ago -- I thought they had folded then.... The magazine (I thought) was similar to Wired, but with a different perspective... kind of along the lines of Mental Floss, which is another magazine that nobody seems to read....
Since when does bleeding edge equate to 'best'? Perhaps 'buggiest' or 'shortest life span'. I am an owner of a Radeon 9700 Pro and the bugs are yet to be worked out of this card and the AGP 8x implementation.... so overclocking it will make it better?
Why not just levy a tax, include it with the IRS and FICA taxes you pay on your wages? At the end of the year, if you can prove that you actually bought music, you get the tax back....
Nah, that would be wrong, wouldn't it? Just like increasing the prices of CD's because they are not seeing enough profit, or keeping the price of CD's where they are, rather than lowing them once the cost of manufacturing went down (remember those promises when CD's were first introduced?)..
I understand where Rosen and her band of idiots are coming from, and I can see where downloading music you didn't pay for can be seen as a threat to the RIAA and their profits... but apparently they don't understand how desperate they sound... or how much opposition/resistance they face..
oooh, look - the new Eminem/J.Lo/P.Diddy album is out... better fire up the browser and get me a copy!
I find the context menu keys quite useful for renaming files.
And negate one more reason for being a parent....Why are we removing all the actual parenting from the process of raising a child?
Not specifically eating her feces (which this one doesn't do), but her reactions to everything she encounters...
We train dogs here. Black labs mostly, for both obedience trials and agility trials.... the most unlogical thing in the world, from a person's point of view, is a young puppy experiencing her world....
Would this make John Romero our bitch?

if you have a generator and your system is plugged into it...everything becomes moot...

it is the sound of a server being slashdotted....
I don't think that he 'does not know' about EMP or AI, but rather is still in shock from being pulled out of the matrix into reality and is simply not sure what the hell Morpheus is talking about... so he asks..
Yeah, sounds like everyone involved is carrying a freaking sword....
nevermind, that was stupid....
and just where is Jeff Goldblum when we need him; we could ask him to write up a virus on his Mac and just let it sit there on our hard drives and when the aliens get to that file: BOOM!
Sorry, I must have forgotten the humour or sarcasm tag in my post....
WTF did you say?? I would ask for clarification, but I doubt that it would help......
