speaking of selling anime, with the growing ammount of broadband, could the ITMS be moved the Apple DVD player, and create a movie download service? how small can we get a vhs(-ish) quality movie? 1 gig? i know dvd full size are 4.7 gigs or so, but what if they did vhs quality as a base, with dvd quality as an option(say, 8 bucks a movie for vhs quality, 10-12 for dvd?). Just a thought.

maybe, apple would offer (similar to the picture able shipping feature) a dvd boxed set for if you still want to buy online, but don't want to download... along with maybe a bittorrent-like download system?

Trying to keep the impulse buy coolness would be hard, but not totally impossible.

yes. I don't know where, but there was a quote from a higher up in Microsoft in an interview(sounds shady, since i don't know the details, but just give me the benefit of the doubt), that MS did say they had 2 billion dollars that they said they could lose with the xbox.
they set 2 billion aside and said "we are gonna make a gaming console, we will probably lose money on it, since we haven't done this before, but that is ok, we will make up for it in games, and future console sales"...

what is so great about the ps2? one of its major selling points is backwards compatibility with a boatload of ps1 games. that is what MS is doing. they are creating the xbox1, losing money in it, but building up games, developers, and experience. the xbox2 will have enough of an existing game base(through backwards compatibility) that is will mostly negate the "ya, xbox is nice, but ps2 has a lot more games!" mentality.

even though Nintendo was number 3 in US sales, they made a profit on all their gamecubes(along with the zillion plus gameboys, advanced and sp that are flyign off the shelves) while the Xbox was number 2 and LOST money on every sale.

Granted, MS came in saying they could lose 2 billion, just to get their foot in the door, get a feel for the market, and get some fan base for the xbox 2 release.

you can 'thaw' the computer, and change settings, and then reboot(freeze it) and the settings will be saved, but if some punk kids tries to delete a system file or changes the background, all it takes is a reboot.

you request a file(a key, actually, like an md5 sum). your search goes to a handful of nodes you know, which goes to a handful of nodes they know(and so on, until you find it.) then, once found, the source node(the node that has the file you want) sends the file to the node that requested it, which sends the file to the node that requested it, (and so on) and then sends it to you... the file is sent in 'reverse search order' (ie. your search goes through nodes you-> a-> b-> c->, c has the file, the file is sent to you c-> b-> a-> you)...

Each time a file passes through a node,(node a and b) part or all of it is saved on the proxy of that node, so the more times a file is requested, the more nodes will be involved in the search/retreival, the more copies are created on the network of that file, the more accesible the file becomes:)...

    hope that helpes you out.
