damn. I really wish I patented using stupid acronyms for a name...;)
get used to mods like this - I get em all the time and I have never deliberately trolled in slashdot - i think it's the name. Or my enemies (dons tinfoil hat)
unless you count my quest for seventh post, which was not so much a troll as virtual performance art... yeah, that's it...
I agree, it is very fun. Unfortunately it is very short... I wouldn't buy it myself (again) - i'd just rent it if you plan on spending a weekend on it.
You seem to forget how he basically takes charge when dealing with Smaug and then the conflict between the men and dwarves later on, and the ring only plays bit parts in these situations.
...that so many of you are sitting at your computers posting on slashdot about how pathetic this guy is because he played ddr for 37 hours for a good cause. What this kid did was awesome and worthy of praise, not scorn.
Rock on DDR playin', money for charity raisin' kid!
Actually, i'd rather a kid watched (the original) Texas Chainsaw Massacre than played Man Hunt. TCM has very little blood (though half of the on-screen blood is actually real) and some very interesting themes about the end of the sixties generation, meat consumption, etc, etc.
I don't know if Man Hunt has any redeeming qualities or if it's just mindless carnage...
Not quite. The ESRB has a separate rating for adult games ("AO" or adults only).
Mature is somewhat comparable to "R" and a lot of "R" rated pictures receive accolades so it is fair to compare "M" rated games to mainstream cinema. I do agree that many M rated video games are unfortunately quite sophomoric - rather like R rated exploitation flicks. There are some good M rated games, however, like Half Life, MGS, and System Shock 2 that do not rely on boobies and crude humour.
See here for a breakdown of the ratings and what they mean in terms of content.
Considering the first boss is like 2 minutes in (some turtle thingy IIRC) then, no, you didn't play very long:)
It's basically like FF5 as far as gameplay goes (you get crystals to change classes), and the graphics were amazing for its time. However, I prefered part 2 myself, which you can get for your psx/ps2 if you want as part of Final Fantasy Origins. They were doing a remake of FF3 for the wonderswan (as they did for FF1 and FF2) but it never seemed to appear...
A lot of RPGs do require hand-eye coordination and button timing, though. They don't usually focus on these elements, relegating them to side-quests or mini-games, but a few do focus on twitchiness, such as Vagrant Story.
That train sim game sounds messed up. Anyone remember a pc game where you drove a bus across Arizona or something? Straight highway, but you couldn't just tape down a key on the keyboard because the steering was a little off and you had to compensate eventually. I think it was part of a larger collection of stupid games...
If I walked by a business and got spammed, I would make it a point to go into the business, ask to see the manager, and chew him out as loudly as possible.
Spam works so well because those of us that don't want it can't retaliate publicly, even though we outnumber the morons that respond to it by one hundred to one. Same with telemarketing or fax spamming, for that matter.
In second life, you can pretty much customize anything about your appearance. A friend and I tried it out one day - he went completely nuts customizing his body. In the end, he didn't look human. Huge feet, tiny waste, green skin, gigantic nose and eyes - it was quite surreal.
This is one of those days I wish we could post pictures in Slashdot threads - not that I can find the pictures I took of him in the game.
Too bad the game was too clunky. Good idea, bad implementation.
Yes. :)
;)
No. It's your number of fans!
No, no.. In Soviet Russia, bits fill YOU in here please!
now *this* is comedy gold. Bravo!
Harry Potter - Uses ineffective magic to make himself seem more Nerdish.
Actually, in the last book he's more of a brooding, sulking, know-it-all teenager who's pretty good at magic used to combat the dark arts.
Not that I would know....
Only a small percentage of slashdot users view and make comments, if CmdrTaco is to be believed. Since it is a follow-up I think it's appropriate.

Hey, the link isn't working...
And kill the Akklaim marketing department.
That would make an awesome game. I would totally play that dude!

Welcome to slashdot
He probably isn't sure if he screwed up or if the software screwed up. No point badmouthing software if you're not sure, right?
it's available for the gamecube. :D

he was a romanticist, not an environmentalist. There is a difference (not that this difference negates your point, just being picky).

Wow, when I broke up with my girlfriend she took most of the stuff (it was hers, so I wasn't bitter) so now things are really tidy...
Interesting...

some kid had set up a website devoted to hating this teacher, school found out about it and he got excluded.
I read that as executed - yeah, i think i better lay off the caffiene and get some sleep tonight...

Internet? What's that?
Jesus man, use the preview button. I can tolerate spalling errors from a geek, but not malformed html.
os is win xp based according to pa article...
Wait, we're sending Jim Carrey into space? Thank goodness!
