Again, if you don't like the service, don't subscribe. The same could be said of HBO; if they decided to change the terms and add commercials, then you'd always have the option to cancel.
Except I didn't have to spend $300 up front for HBO, on top of their monthly subscription. If I cancel HBO, I'm not losing anything. If I cancel the TiVo service, that $300 box just became a big paperweight.

The beta versions all expired earlier this year, but there is a small but very loyal userbase that has a crack for it. Several years ago, we had a tom cat that would walk the fence next to our house at the same time, every day. We went out there early one morning and cut up some squares of packing tape, and put them on the fence upside down.
As soon as the cat came by, he stepped in a few pieces. Then he sat down to look at his paws. As soon as he did that, we let the dog out, which scared the cat. The cat jumped off the fence and tried to take off running, but it was on bricks so he couldn't really go anywhere.
It really did look like a Tom & Jerry cartoon. It's great fun for anyone who doesn't really care for cats.
The cat never came down that fence again, but we still saw him around the neighborhood for a while.

And in their comparison of the Dell screen vs. the ipaq screen, I think the Dell displays better anyways.

Personally, I learned a lot about Linux from Gentoo. I had installed and used Mandrake for a few months before trying Gentoo, so I wasn't a complete Linux newbie, but I didn't really know much about it.
Going through a complete Gentoo install from a stage 1 tarball taught me a lot, probably more than I could have picked up out of a book or two.
I still mainly use Windows, but that's because I develop Windows apps for a living. I still enjoy messing around with Linux though.

I know how he got it. He sold his soul to Bill Gates, and got 15 of his friends to do the same. Then Microsoft sent him a free one. He didn't even have to pay shipping.
Didn't an old version of Norton Utilities have this? IIRC, it was in the old DOS days. It would pop up and ask you for permission every time a program would try to write to the disk.
We had an Explorer 8000 through Charter Cable. The thing was absolutely worthless.
The first one we had would record shows, but they would record very choppy. The audio and video would play a half second or so, then freeze for 2-3 seconds continually. Nothing recorded was even watchable.
They replaced that one with a new one. The new one would play back shows ok, but it would reboot itself 10-15 times per day. When you've got two kids under the age of 3 wondering why they can't ever watch their shows, that gets real annoying, fast.
They replaced that unit with a third one. It usually worked, but would occasionally forget to record a show, or scheduled recordings would be unscheduled for some reason.
The entire thing seemed really buggy, and was SLOW. It would take a few seconds to change channels, to pause, or do anything. That may not sound bad, but it gets frustrating when you change the channel, and it doesn't respond for a few seconds, so you press the button again, and you end up going past what you wanted.
Since then we dropped Charter (Except for the internet service), and now have Dish Network. Their DVR is better, but it still sucks in my opinion. We're planning on cancelling Dish Network pretty soon, and just getting a Tivo or Replay TV with basic cable.

Most of Google's features aren't compatible with Firefox.
Even their latest offering, the desktop search says they might include FireFox support in the future, but only if enough people request it.
I would think that if they are in fact going to release a rebranded FireFox, they would be making sure that most of their services work with it.
It sounds like a bunch of wishful thinking to me.
