Oh it's just what makes it fun to do what you do. I prefer to work in a place where people like what they are doing and show great interest in their profession. And it is the little fun projects that takes you in places the "real" projects does not, that you learn even more and can afford to fail. Even if the little spare time project failed you will have gained knowledge in the process that can be used in the real projects. I have worked in different places and I will always prefer to work in a place where people show a real interest in the things they do. The working day is more fun, rewarding interresting and again you learn a lot.

I still don't get how they can run their company. Their methods are clearly different from the ones they state. I would have thought that with a little collective effort, it should be easy to bring them down. I like to see how these guys can fake them through the trial. If any real evidence of how they really work, it should be clear to everyone why you would want them of the face of the planet, warn about them and block them in your router.

  10. I buy the music. on RIAA Plans Cyberwar Effort · · Score: 4, Insightful

I buy the music that I listen to but I am getting more and more tired of "the music industry", their attitude and methods. It is becoming something I don't want to support and are left with the feeling that maybe I should just drop my interest in music. It's not like I couldn't live without buying CD's, why bother.
All I want is to buy a CD, rip it and place it on my server so that I can play them on my Audiotron. Then comes the copy protection and our(local) laws that it is illegal to bypass their copy protection. It's not worth the trouble.

And it all comes down to what have been discussed here many times. The way people use music. Now we have a generation of people who have learned that the computer can be used for just about everything, even getting the music they like. But instead of trying to make money on this "new" marked like everybody else they first acted like it didn't exist and when it became clear that the people wants it, they try to fight it and the result is that everybody now has learned that music is something that you download for free.

Got me thinking of this quote from Homerpalooza:
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

  23. Their methods? on Spammers Sue Anti-Spam Groups · · Score: 1

So how will they defend their methods? I have blocked several spammers in the firewall because they tried to abuse my system.
I have several logs of spammers sending thousands mails to non-existing users using dictonary attacks.
Also a few on UUNET/worldcom have tried just last month to use my Apache as a proxy/CONNECT relay to route connection to remote mail servers though my server(seems that a certain mix of apache and PHP causes error messages that can lead one to think that I have a proxy running with CONNECT enabled).
So not only did I get a bunch of directory attacks on my mail server, the webserver also got thousands of hits every day with CONNECT attempts. So I complained to their provider blocked their entire subnet in my firewall. About 2 days after 80% of the HTTP attempts stopped(according to my firewall log) only to be followed by a few attempts from their net to connect to a MS/SQL server which I don't have.
Furthermore I created a new email alias just for sending the complaint, and yeay, now my _deleted_ alias gets alot of spam, most of it gets blocked by spam blocks.

I should not be hard to find enough material to show just why people choose NOT to talk to everybody on the net. And it IS the individual admin/user who chooses to block networks using antispam lists not the antispam lists forcing it upon anyone. I don't believe that just because I have services on the internet(mail, http etc) that it means that I must make those services available to anyone.

So they can fight it all they want, I have plenty of work to do without having to clean up after spammers trying to abuse my systems. And I will continue to block subnets in my firewall and in the firewalls of my clients(I always ask, should I do it now, or when you start getting spam :))

This is the company that had Directory Services up and running before Microsoft got the idea to put the word Directory after Active.(and still haven't understood what it should to).
Also they have worked on integrating Linux and UNIX systems into their services, having them work together instead of trying to kill it.

And finally I'd say if you have trouble keeping a Netware server up and running, perhaps you should look at the skills of the people operating them. The same stupid comment goes for people changing to Microsoft from UNIX.
