  1. Re:TiVo could simply change their software a bit.. on Network Scheduling to Mess with Tivo · · Score: 1

Beginning to be very glad I didn't buy a Tivo and got a ReplayTV instead. When you schedule a show from say, 8:00 - 9:00 and you know the show will run over a bit, in the advanced options you can pad the beginning of the show or the end of the show by several minutes, and when its done recording you can still switch to the next show thats scheduled to record automatically. While you may lose any crossover between the two you still get most of the shows. And frankly the beginning of most shows are a lot less important then the endings. As far as 30 second skip, there's a button on the remote that does this admirably. It even stops when you smash it a bunch when it hits a commercial/show boundary (chapters)...on most show the chapter advance button lets you skip the whole slew of commercials outright, although a few shows I watch are missing some of them =P. Best part tho is the network jack in the back, I guess Tivos have this now but they didn't when i bought it. Full control over all functions via a clever Java App. All hail PVR/DVR/Tivo-clones

  2. Re:Bastards.. on TiVo, ReplayTV Agree to Limits · · Score: 2, Informative

I have a ReplayTV and it still has the commercial skip feature...no modifications involved... They cleverly named it the Chapter advance button or something similar, just hitting the right arrow on the remote will advance the "chapters" which just happen to be at the end of the commercial breaks...not flawless but it works.

Thankfully some very potent prescription contact lenses relieve me from wearing a pound of plastic on my face, but laser surgery is a very attractive option. My mother has had it and had great imporvement, not perfect tho. If you do get it, I do reccommend Dr. Wang tho, only one anywhere near me that actually has a degree in lasers and optometry, and he pioneered the science at Vanderbilt.

I am curious as to the laws involving free speech though for corporations. Anyone have information about that?

No RTFA.... Each photon contains two pieces of information. You cannot read one without destroying the other. There are much better ways to record music, and a lot of talk radio is released over the internet now as well. All i have is a tape player in my car so it sits under my dash most of the time but I do take it out a lot. And it came with two sets of Nickel Hydride AA's for loads of playing time. Interface is slow but i'm sure a lot of that is from it being out of date. Only gripe is I misplaced the connection software, and the only software they offer is for win9x and UPDATES to win2000/xp and I can't install the win9x copy on 2000 (bitches about something or the other).
