As a career choice. People who want to be in politics are probably the last people you want in charge. I say we double the pay for every single elected position in the country, halve the term periods, and appoint people (meeting certain criteria, 25 years old, HS diploma, US citizen) to every single position based on a lottery system at whatever level (local, state, federal) the position is for.
Power corrupts, absolutely, and those seeking power are probably already corrupt. Things would be a lot more effective if average people whose friends and neighbors have a vested interest in whats going on were in power. And with shorter term limits, even if someone terrible got appointed, they wouldnt be there for long enough to do all the much damage. Not to mention they would probably focus more on the job at hand. How much time do politicos spend on their re-election campaigns vs actual work?
One time i stopped in for a frappuchino, hot summer day, my total was like $4 something, i only had 2 in cash on me, so i pulled out my debit card. The girl behind the counter informed me that their phone lines were down and my drink was on the house. That made my day, and of course i put the $2 in cash i did have in the tip jar.
Vice City at least, which is the only one i've played, and still do. The radio stations in vice city were all over an hour loop, with a great mix for the genres of the era. I actually ripped the stations from the game and will listen to it. Definitly not reccomended for driving though...
Within 5 minutes of getting my wii i realized this and while shooting games are easier and more fun on the Wii, its not an exact pointer. You cant aim the wii-mote, its not exact, its relative to the screen and the sensor bar and behaves much like a mouse. So unless theres some kind of calibration for it that hasn't been done in any other game, i see the zapper only causing problems.
Unfortunately I cant think of a good source for active ones inside the store without ripping open DVDs or something. I work in the photo dept and when i put new models on the camera bar, the security strip is frequently loose inside the battery dept. I always take it out, peel off the backing and stick it on the bottom of a cart. Probably a good dozen carts have em now, its always funny to see a stockman bring in a long train of carts and set off the alarm. Its great because theres no way to deactivate them without running them over the registers and nobody has the time to search the underside of all the carts or test them in the alarm one by one.
Granted i have little faith in humanity as it is, but imagine the opposite of what you said. People find out that we're not alone in the universe, that there are millions of beings out there more different from us than we could imagine, their silly little prejudices might seem just that, silly. Suddenly that dude down the street who likes dudes doesn't seem so different, at least he's human. Organized religion as we know it would probably crumble, how could you accept something that says the force that created the entire universe personally created us too, in his own image to boot, when there could be hundreds of civilizations out there more advanced in every way than us. Maybe if people saw that there were other societies out there, they might have a standard of comparison and realize ours is in the shitter and try to work to better humanity.
Wishful thinking i know, but who knows what would happen if the galaxies other inhabitants decided to reveal themselves to us.
I think in many situations, where human incompetence abounds, people would welcome automated replacements. I would love to go to McDonalds, enter my order on a keypad, swipe my debit card and have my full tray pop out a slot in a minute or two. No forgotten sauce, no other screwups. Same with the wal-mart checkout. Give RFID a couple of years and watch the self checkout lanes (which are a problem of design, but also the customers), as well as the regular checkout lanes dissapear. Load up your cart, walk out the door, everything in your cart is totaled up and deducted from your debit card. Retailers would love it, it would save them millions in cashier pay.
It was some object oriented programing tool that functioned effectively like LEGO. It was a framework for whatever you wanted. Good book though, i need to re-read that sometime. If you havn't you should check out some of his other books, Generation-X is my favorite and girlfriend in a coma is good too.
is kind of a geek, but a non-techie, she resisted when i bought her a 19" LCD as a gift, but last night we were watching TV and a commercial for the iPhone came on. She was like, "Oh my god, what is that?!?" I kept my mouth shut untill the end of the ad and she asked how much it was. "$600." "Thats it?!". In fact as i was typing this she was on apples website and asked me if the student discount would be availible on iPhones. I think Apple's got a winner on their hands.
SD cards are getting faster, theyre not as fast as CF cards yet, but they're getting up there, also many newer DSLR cameras shipping with SD card slots.
Most people who (console) game on LCDs dont even realize theres any kind of lag because they get so used to it. For a couple of weeks at work we had a guitar hero demo set up with a 42" LCD. I played it every day on my lunch and had all the high scores, but then i tried playing at my friends house and i was terrible, coming in early on everything, because id learned to play on an LCD with a lag. This was one of the reasons i bought a CRT HDTV.
I dont know if its barely audible frequencies or what, but i can walk into my living room (around a corner and the entertainment center is still facing away from me), and know exactly what is turned on, tv, dvd player, wii (dvr/cable box is always on, which bugs me because of this, although my computers dont) even if its paused/muted whatever. I distinctly remember this from my parents house too. My sister would always leave the TV on after turning off the dvd player and i could tell that it was on when i was coming down the stairs (1 wall seperating the stairs and back of the tv).
Not much uses NiCds anymore because they're slow to charge, have a memory and are terrible for the environment. The only thing that comes to mind when i think NiCd is corless power tools, but even those are being replaced by Li-Ion. Any rechargable AA you get now is gonna be a NiMH.
I work in a photo lab and sell cameras, and it may seem like an upsell, but the high end batteries, and especially rechargeable batteries, are sooo worth it for digital cameras at least. People will come to pick up their digital prints and have a 20 pack of the cheap cheap (not energizer, duracell or rayovac, like the "Heavy Duty" brand ones) AAs, ill grab a 2 pack of energizer lithiums off our little spinny rack on the counter and tell them "These 2 batteries here, are going to last longer in your camera than all of those.", and its the truth. If somebody is buying a camera for a trip i always try to sell them a pack of the good (energizer lithium or duracell power pix) batteries, or if they're buying it for general use i try to sell them rechargeables, usually energizer because thats the only charger that comes will full batteries. Most chargers will come with 2100mAh batteries and then the separate packs are 2500mAh, the energizer comes with 2500mAh batts.
Pokemon Battle Revolution is coming out at the end of june and its going to be the first wii game with online multiplayer, and also be the first wii game that'll interface with the DS (pokemon diamond and pearl).
At a certain major retailer, our dept also does the camera sales and related acessories, we have 2 models of digital frames, but they both kind of suck, and its problems inherent to all of them.
Both the problems that come to mind are the screen. The first problem is the aspect ratio and is a major problem for every LCD on the market. Since there are only a handfull of manufacturers of LCDs, all brands will use the same parts, because of this 90% of LCD TVs on the market are 16:10 aspect ratio at a weird resolution, same with my main computer monitr, so even if im watching something thats proper 16:9, i still have black bars. This is also a problem for digital photo frames since most of them use a 7" panel thats the same ones used in portable DVD players. In this case, the LCD IS a proper 16:9, but the problem is a "standard" photo is roughly 3:2 aspect ratio.
The other problem is again a general problem, the only small high resolution (high pixel density anyway) LCDs on the market are very small, cell phones, PSPs etc, so these slightly larger 7" LCDs have a crummy 480x 234 resolution, so your 3648x2736 10 megapixel image is wasted. As others have said, your gonna have a much better end result from just getting prints.

I'm sure those are up to spec, but knowing the cobbled together nature of mose college networks...

Is the distinctions between M games (for 17+) and AO games (18+), i mean c'mon, what happens in that year.

Look up WTF an immobilizer was. Then again i dont think i've ever driven a car built within the last 8 years.

But i'm enjoying Sonic and the Secret Rings, its pretty much just go real fast, jump on bad guys, its not fantastic, but its pretty good.
Wizards killed the Star Wars CCG, bastards...

This has little if anything to do with transporter technology, and everything to do with FTL communications.:P

I was just talking about steampunk and am sending a friend the pilot of Amazing Screw On Head right now. Wish they'd make the damn series...

the 17 empty mt dew cans in the waste basket next to me, all of them have sodium benzoate!
