No, states have tried, but non one of those laws i dont think have passed constitutional muster. Its entirely self regulated, like film ratings between the MPAA and the theaters, no government involvement, like it should be.
Ok, might as well ask here since i havnt been able to get a good answer anywhere else...
I just built a server last week, its an empty case pretty much, just a spare drive for the OS and some storage, with 8 free drive bays, i want maximum storage density, so im waiting for 1TB HDs in the $250 price range... I've got a PCI-E slot for a controller card and you can get an 8 port one for about $300, but i've read that the maximum you can format an array to in windows is about 2TB. I'd prefer to have everything in a RAID5 for a single 7TB array, is there any way to do this with windows, or am i going to need smaller arrays at the expense of more parity drives?:(
And yes it has to be windows, network DVD player software, sharing, etc.
I work in retail, we had 4 elites that we got in about a week before launch. We sold 3 of them on launch day. 2 of those came back the same day deffective. The one guy exchanged his, and didnt come back, so we assume it worked, but the other guy was SOL and had to get a refund. Not a lot can be drawn from such a small sample size, but still, 50% failure rate for us so far.
I love how everyone was so quick to look to counter-strike and other "murder simulators", while either glossing over or completely ignoring the fact that males in S Korea are required to serve 2 years in the armed forces. "*Gasp* The army couldn't be training people to kill, thats proposterous, its the video games."
Just checked e-bay. Apple IIgs and a complete set of acessories, SIGNED BY WOZ!... $41.:( Well, back to number munchers, hyperstudio and oregon trail.
I still want a Cray-1 for a couch in my basement whenver i buy a house.
In a big way. Not that i'd expect FFXIII or XIV on the wii, but theyre doing another crystal chronicles game for the wii, they already released the highly successful FFIII remake on the DS (which they chose over the PS2), and theres a sequel to FFXII coming out on the DS later this year. Also outside FF, the next full dragon quest game is going to be a DS exclusive.
I work in retail, in the electronics dept, we get at least 10 calls a day and as many people stopping in asking about the wii. We get shipments in randomly and sporadically. We got 12 in on tuesday and sold the 4 we could in less than an hour. The other 8 we had to hold because our weekly flyer promised a minimum of 8 per store on sunday. So this week i've told at least 50 people that if they want one of those 8 Wiis to be at the store when we open at 7 on sunday. Its like that every 3 weeks or so when the Wii gets advertised, people lining up at 5 in the morning. Meanwhile we have more than a dozen PS3s upstairs that we cant sell. We had less, but then people returned some...
I'm personally very happy with my Wii, got it at launch, only had to wait in line about 10 hours, and that was lots of fun, everybody had DS' and booze. Only my second console and the first one i've bought new. Im somewhat dissapointed with the lineup so far, but im looking forward to super paper mario and mario party 8 (as well as SSBB and Metroid), and im sure it will get better. I have spent quite a bit on virtual console game, and those are keeping me occupied. Since i never owned any of those systems, its not a bad deal for me.
I am considering maybe getting a 360 though, mostly because i know as much fun as the wii is, we're not gonna see games like Gears of War, Lost Planet, Crackdown, GRAW2, etc on it (not to mention Fable 2, KotOR 3 etc). I was considering getting a PS2 for a while, but i hate sony with a passion and Guitar Hero is coming out for 360 next week, so theres not much need now. The only thing off the top of my head that i still want to play on PS2 is katamari.
That includes games (not just movies, TV, music). Considering gaming is a bigger industry than movies, they dont need cross-over appeal. Is Brad Pitt not one of the biggest icons in the entertainment industry because he doesn't have any video games? I'm sure mario is one of the most recognizable icons in the world.
I understand they weren't gonna canibalize sales of their $100 wireless adaptor, but c'mon, they could have included HD-DVD in the thing... $80 more for an extra 100GB and HDMI?
At work, i feel kinda dirty. The guy bought it for no other reason than that it was a blu-ray movie. Theyre in the (small) case with the PS3 games and we only have X3 and the Italian Job (marky mark version). He asked if we had any and i pointed him to the case, i unlocked it for him and he grabbed x3 and then was looking at The Italian Job, he said hed never even heard of it and asked if id seen it. Then he asked if those were the only Blu-Ray movies we had...
I though X3 was pretty good, but even if i had a blu-ray player (and i do have a 1080i TV), i cant see spending $30 for that, ill wait till its in the $5 bin. And honestly, if its a good enough movie are you going to notice the difference between the $5 DVD and the $20 Blu-ray, or are you going to be too wrapped up in the story?
But really, i couldnt get someone buying a movie not because they wanted to have and watch the movie, but because it was a blu-ray movie.
My fiance got one and she wound up buying a nano. After buying the $30 headphones for her phone and some weird thin SD card (not a mini, not a micro, just thinner than a normal one) for it, the UI sucked and the proprietary headphone connector broke after like a month. Plus i'm sure its no picnic with other ones to rip songs from CDs, they'd much rather you buy them for $3 from vcast or whatever.
For anything above 480i. I bought a 15" LCD EDTV as a replacement second monitor and unfortunately it didn't come with a VGA cable. I had to use S-video for a few days while i waited for the VGA cable and at 1024x768, text was completely illegible. The only thing it was any good for was video. On the other hand i have a network enabled DVD player hooked up to my HDTV via component and even the tiny menu text looks fantastic. Same with text on the internet channel on my Wii with component.
I have a friend whos struggled with his media center PC for a long time, especially getting text to look right on a SDTV, first thing he commented on was how fantastic the text looked via component on my DVD player.
So where does the rumored FF VII remake fit in with all this? Back before launch it was rumored that this was a pet project at square, FFVII with PS3 graphics. If they do wind up making this and if it goes cross platform, as well as FF XIII, that may be the last straw for me. I'm happy with my Wii, but there are so many kickass games on the 360 now... Well, ill wait till the built in HD-DVD version comes out.
I heard june, but it may be later, possibly coinsciding with the Halo 3 release, but look for a $25-75 drop on both the core and premium, as well as the release of a third version for $475 ($25 less than the now on hold 20gb PS3) with the HD-DVD drive built in as well as an HDMI out. It will also include a larger hard drive (estimates range from 60-120GB)and possibly have the wireless adapter built in. Basically a big fuck you to sony.

Between Survivor and Flavor of Love Girls Charm School.
Look it up, i've been looking forward to it for a while, something original.
Not the Navy.
The iPhone comes pretty damn close, but i still need a bluetooth commbadge.

When the wife(to be)'s not looking, switch out the baby einstein cd with london calling.
An MMO for me to watch my sims play!
Thats the epitome of the drug companies motto, "Why sell one cure when we can sell a lifetime of treatments?".
Well, from here (10x, you can drag them around, but only in IE), an ISD is no match for a borg cube, but a SSD could take a cube no problem.

For some reason i wasnt logged in and operas autofill changed my subject.
