If it was realistic, then limbs can pretty much be severed even from an SMG, and certainly from an assault or a sniper rifle. Hell, a real sniper bullet can kill things that are near the hit area at around a meter radius, even if the target itself isn't hit.
They mean for example that if you see your teammate splattered upon the LEFT wall, pretty far from where u assume he went, you could assume there's a sniper on the RIGHT side...
Or if you see your dead teammate somewhere high, and in pieces, you can understand a grenade was involved.
in which a movie is so bad that it actually becomes enjoyable?
I've seen not a few movies that were so seriously flawed in plot and connection between scenes that it actually became really fun to watch.
The best example I can think of is "Starship Troopers". Haven't read the book, but the movie is so full of plot holes and stupid scenes. It was so stupid it actually made me laugh for hours, making it really fun for me to watch. It was full of fanservice and stupid scenes showing aliens kicking the life out of the stupid humans. It showed all the stereotypes of the genre, making it an excellent parody imho.
Sure, some movies are simply bad and boring or simply not bad enough to be able to enjoy as a parody, but many movies are simply dumb yet enjoyable, like various kungfu movies.
Feel free to comment about such movies you've encountered.
1. Mortal Kombat (it's with K, just like the games were!) 2. Street Fighter 3. you wrote this one right. 4. I assume you meant Soldier and the last is Alien Vs. Predator. (also based on a game tho)
You don't need to hope they make a Painkiller sequel... Try Croteam's Serious Sam first & 2nd encounter and the upcoming Serious Sam 2. These games were developed specifically to be old-school-ish, with big and pretty areas and over 50 enemies in the same area, and sometimes more, yet keeping surprisingly high frame rates. And don't forget the co-op ^_^
Also, you should try playing co-op with jDoom and the original doom wads, but with a nice model pack. Old game, new engine === still very fun.

No. The article says you can only encode such and such amount of data into a given executable. It uses the redundancy in the x86 commands... Like: add eax, 1 vs inc eax
Both do the same. If you state the first is "0" and the second one is a "1", then u can encode data inside the executable.
omg! IP Headers have a checksum for the IP Header, including the checksum field aswell! Problem? Nope, when you calculate the checksum, you take the checksum field as 0. I believe the same or similar is done here.
Forget about "wood for sheep".... that's possible online... but how about something like this: A: "I am interested in some clay" B: "Clay is a resource in need" A: "What is your price?" B: "The appropriate price!" A: "How about a stone and a sheep" B: "HAHAHAHAHahahahaah!" A: "So...?" B: "4 of one single kind" A: "Ok then." A passes dice. C: "wwwwait!!! how about an offer you can't refuse... here's one sheep for free" (against robber)
yup, no online counterpart can beat a real life session.
Yes! And not only that, a lot of metal music imported here and sold for the equivelant of 11$ for full, original albums. Note that in "standard" stores it still costs a full 14$, but when you buy through private importers that specialize in metal, it gets even cheaper than the 11$ figure I mentioned. It's common that in metal concerts and events there are the importers stands there and they sell nicely.
I know about 30 norwiegen bands and i'm not from there. All bands I know from there are metal, specifically Black Metal. From the top of my head Emperor, Mayhem, Dark Funeral, Dark Throne, And Oceans, Dimmu Borgir and MANY MANY MANY more.
Actually i've been playing games before Doom1 even existed. My first system was a Dragon32 if you ever heard of such system.
So what if it CAN run on a console. It's not like Doom1 and 2 weren't released for consoles. Heck Doom1&2 were recently released for the GBA. Moreover, the porting was so simple because Carmack and co. use portable technologies (OpenGL). That's why the game is so easily ported to console, linux AND mac.
Yes. I know stencil shadows existed for a while now and so did bump textures. However, the game still manages to look better than many other new games.
You would like to see a game so advanced no one but the selected few can play. Tough luck, this company prefers to allow more people to enjoy the game NOW and not force them to upgrade or wait a year or two until they can play it.
Does a game have to be cutting edge to be amazing and fun? CERTAINLY NOT. This game is near the cutting edge and surely looks better and funny than I believed it will be.
I must agree about the multiplayer part tho. Every ID game before D3 had multiple multiplayer modes out of the box and now only 4 player DM. I hope they release a patch that adds co-op mode as on the XBox (the ones who wrote the co-op code were the ones that ported it to the XBox, not ID themselves).
Have you even seen the game? In the high res images? The game looks pretty amazing.
The fact it doesn't "need the latest hardware" is exactly why everyone loves ID so much. The fact the top of the line machines give a breathtaking experience while the game is still very playable on the weaker machines. Do you find it BAD that the game isn't made by a company that doesn't care for people which aren't rich kids that can afford the latest and hottest hardware? You find it BAD that lower end users can finally have an amazing game without needing to pay 500$ for a graphic card?
No. The game certainly does push the limits for the high end machines, but also scales down for everyone else.

The did state the minimum is a GeForce3 card. The GeForce3 came only in a high end version, whereas GeForce4 comes in high end Ti version and low end MX which is infact WEAKER than the GeForce3 in terms of performance.
This is the case with many models that come in high and low end versions. High end versions of the older generation card can give more performance than the low end versions of the newer generation, however the newer generation card has more features.
This is because low end cards have less memory, less pixel pipelines and running at slower frequencies.
When Doom3 was first announced, I know a very large group of people that said: "please! make the game like the original games, but with better graphics! we want all our favorite monsters and weapons... don't make it a sluggish boring game!"
Sure, the old maps are horribly undetailed and unrealistic, but I do hope someone makes a new version, with maps and mosters that RESEMBLE the old ones, but with today's technology.
The earthly maps can sure be remade to look more realistic, but the HELL maps were really nice in their complete awkwardness.
Buuuuuuut... why am I ranting before I play the new game. It's supposed to come on 4-5 CDs, that's enough content that will surely have areas which aren't only indoors but rather outdoors or hellish.
Has id software ever failed you? Yes it will be out after the Windows version. The gaming market is ruled by Windows. But it will sure come. It didn't take so long for the linux clients of Q1, Q2, Q3, RtCW, RtCW:ET to come out after the windows releases and they were surely released, and so will Doom3. Not only that, but the Q1 and Q2 complete source code was also released under the GPL. Would you rather they completely ignore the other systems, like most game companies? It's very good that there's a pretty huge player in the 3D gaming world that actually states that the linux/mac versions are planned and not just "if we will feel like it, we'll see if we can hack up some linux version".
Or just do what you do with everything else (phone, parents, etc) when playing the game = simply disconnect them. The only virus you can get that way is PEBCAK.
Try playing Aliens VS Predator 2, as marine, in the dark, with complete silence other than you 5.1 sound system.
I agree tho, that the original doom was one of the scariest games I ever played. When I was young I never played it without cheats and fullbright cuz it was too scary for me. Later I played the OpenGL vers and it was still hella freaky, but not as scary.
I thought when they said "real mp3s" they meant "real music" and not whatever is streaming on napster. I say that because i'm pretty sure that over 95% of my mp3 collection is things that don't appear on napster.:)
Actually that was possible since the engine was based on portals rather than absolute positions. Meaning, from each room, you can see and move to the rooms that connected to it. You could infact make a complete circle, and place different things in the same "real" space, but it would work cuz it connects the objects to the rooms, and the rooms are different.
Same thing could be made in the Descent engine (a rather underrated engine, while actually being the first almost real 3D engine, before DN3D and quake). In Descent, the rooms were created by adding 3D shapes to existing walls and therefore connecting them. You could, if you wanted, to make 10 loops that occupy the same "real" space, but could only move thru the connected parts. There a user made map called "Pandora's Box" (iirc), which was a cube where u could fly around the outer part of it, and every cycle it would change. It was really mad, and playing these maps in multiplayer is really interesting! Another cool thing you could have done, is have a cube in the middle of the room, and instead of connecting it normally, you could have corridors coming from the outside of the cube and continuing outside the room! So you could have a cube in the middle of the room, that actually let you go to 6 different areas of the map!

The answer for "but can it run Duke Nukem Forever?" is always, by definition, "no". Because you need to have the software to be able to run it.
