Every once in a while, I see a funny thing on some IRC channel, forum or whatever. And then I keep getting that funny thing from every posible place...
I got this lteters thingy yesterday, and today my dad told me: "I just got a mail with something really interesting" so I asked: "is that the thing about reading words with scrambled letters?" I wasn't surprised to hear that it was that....
Same thing goes with the badgerbadger flash... I'm pretty sure everyone here saw that aswell...
RIAA pushing ChildPorn to the net like they did with the broken files so that they can say: "Here! Look! P2P is used for pr0n!" They'll put a piccy and rename it to some new pop hit so ppl d/l it and then say: "Look! They even hide it by changing the name!"
The only problem with this is that CBA to actually snail-mail or just don't have a worldwide creditcard (since they are lazy/young) so they can't donate with PayPal and the likes.
I'm quite positive that if it was easy, I would have sent donations to bands I like (and d/led the mp3s off AudioGalaxy at the time).
I'm just too lazy to go to the CD store. I went to a couple of concerts in the last year. Around the concert hall, there are people who sell _NEW_ CDs and merchnedise. The prices go anywhere between 30NIS and 65NIS. That's 7-15USD, while mostly the CDs sell at 9-10USD. There's also a 2nd hand stand with prices less than half of that. I've seen this in almost any concert I went to. Do they lose money? No. If they did they'd stop coming. Heck... a day before the concert, people gather on a message board and ask the one who's selling the CDs for specific titles!
Newsflash: 20 days before the official release date of WinXP, a no-activation version was already installed in millions of PC worldwide.
Maybe they could decrease the number of online gamers, even that was proven impossible. A huge percentage of online HL gamers use a pirated copy and a CDKey "they got from a friend".
New acronym: RC?P. Read, Comprehend, ???, Profit. Or should it be, as most slashodotters do: Comprehend (from comments), Read (because the comments), ???, Profit. The acronym will now be suitable: CR?P.
Agreed. HOWEVER, by the time they created this service, that other site I talked about which had it's own P2P service was already functional. I don't know how good that service is, but it certainly was a better move than to try to squeeze more money from the common masses.
Anyways, now it's almost obviously they will NOT change to bittorrent, since they already have profit from their current system. Changing to the new system will just make their very large network infrastructure useless, and they will lose.
Meaning, DownloadSite and OtherDownloadSite could use the same.torrent... that is what would be best for everyone. Have different trackers means smaller user base meaning less efficiency.
Fileplanet used to be a quite stable site with rather minor waits. At some time, it became very popular that the huge bandwidth they had became saturated. Downloading was very slow, people had to wait in long lines to get a mediocre service. So what did Fileplanet do? Use this slowness for their own good and started offering "premium services" in order to d/l fast. At that time, it was already very easy to find sources for many files on other, much faster sites.
Bittorrent was written specifically for these kinds of sites. Sites with high-bandwidth, but with very large amounts of users, seeking specific, new files. If FP had used BitTorrent, they would have cut down the bandwidth needs by a huge factor. Therefore, might not even have to use these "premium" services to survive, and making downloads much faster.
I don't remember which download site it was, but there's one site that has 2 methods of recieving a file. Direct download, or using their own P2P system. These kinds of P2P programs aren't needed anymore since BT makes life much easier.
If all download sites would use BT for the latest, most popular, most bandwidth hogging files, everyone will be pleased. The users because they don't have to wait, and now downloading in very fast speeds. The sites because their bandwidth is offloaded to the net.
Moreover, older files will be downloaded in traditional ways. That isn't a problem becuase they don't saturate the bandwidth too much.
The only current problem with BT (I think) is that you can't have multiple trackers.... And a single tracker may crash because of the load.
If it was possible to have multiple trackers, one on each d/l site, all serving the same file, then downloading these files would be much easier.
Unless ofcourse you are developing for Windows aswell. And then you either use the free and extremely old version (2.3.0) or pay the TT tax for the new vers.
They stopped making CDs... they started to make cup holders that break Macs and Car CD Players, etc.
You mean, _AREN'T_ prime or a factor of a prime.

^ A problem they could easily solve by using BitTorrent in thier system.

Dude, check out M$ Worm 2k3!
It comes bundled with M$ Orifice 2k3.

Why don't you use the excellent program called "units"?
console -> units
(or if u'r on windows, then cygwin -> units)
I always thought the clouds and vapor are more like SCO's claims equivelant ;)

Gamespy really is a pain in the ass.
The best game-browser I know, by far, is The All-Seeing Eye.
It works fast, simple, the program doesn't lock-up when performing a search, useful filters, auto-updates.....
And that's only in the FREE version of the program. The registered version adds some more features.
This is one piece of software I can really say is good.
