when bands play in the local student bar. Usually indie labels, often burned copies so you know quite a lot of the money goes directly to the band.

I don't mind people with less experience working on them, in fact I find it appalling that only people with 100 years of experience should touch it - I do however expect people to have at least a basic understanding what computing is and why ACID is very important.

Yes people will be able to use a database quickly, but do we want them to?
Most people I have seen using a database have not had any understanding of what they where doing and it was basically and advanced filepointer. I have seen a lot of people using MySQL with MyISAM and happily thinking they got a consistent dataset. I have seen people using databases for communication between servers and using stuff like a time stamp for identifying a row (time stamp generated on local server).
Holy crap! How can anyone figure out whats supposed to happen with that butterfly ballot?
Here in Denmark you get a ballot thats a mile long and you put a mark at the line where you want to vote. (Multiple ballots when voting for more than one thing)
We just went through an election, one of the national medias decided to make a prediction using exit polls and first 4000 counted votes (all voting places were closed). "If this holds this will turn out to be a major landslide". I had to find something else to do at that point:) (No it didn't end up with any kind of slides, just the slightly above 50% on one side)
So you turned to computers to fix a problem that shouldn't exists in the first place? We also got multiple elections here, not to the granularity of the US but we still manage, how? We hold the elections spread out over the year, makes everything less confusing for the voter so the votes end up in the right place.
If I remember correctly it has been determined that _ANY_ small part of a composed music number used in another number constitutes infringement. Even resampled at different speeds.
So if music is digital the smallest part of a number would be a 0 or a 1 - just get hold of whoever made the first binary program and get him/her to sue everybody in the music industry.
Frivolous lawsuits are not happening here. There was a brief time where we had (in Denmark) something like RIAA trying to extort people, but quickly people decided to fight back and I haven't heard of any new tries at this (one case made it all the way to court and the defendant won that afair).
Thats the way MPAA does it, they send the ISP a letter asking them to stop the infringement, guess they are doing a wait n see at what happens for RIAA.
Here in Denmark every time I have tried asking a friend to join my current company I have been counter offered a job, my current contract mentions no compete and only has a weak NDA, the pay is very high - in fact they are going out of their way to make sure people stay with them instead of trying to enslave they employees.
If a company gave me a contract like the one poster has I would first check the date to make sure it wasn't the 1. of April, after that I would laugh hard and if they kept on insisting I would tell them where they could put the contract.
Here in Denmark they changed the laws so if a company wants a non compete the company is required to pay the worker for the duration. Also they aren't allowed to blanket, they have to make a list of companies you are specifically not allowed to work with.
No the cartoons didn't just cause riots. It was a major diplomatic incident costing the Danish economy a few billion DKR. Our prime minister refused to apologies (rightfully so) for the cartoons which meant major boycotts of Danish products.
I'm from Denmark, so things might be different, but here quite a lot of Danes shop in middle eastern grocery shops. Prices are often low, they are often open when no super markets are (big shops aren't allowed to be open after 8 pm and may only be open some 12 Sundays a year) and on top of that you can get quite a lot of excellent tasting food not carried in the regular shops.
You can't say just by that that she is innocent of the original crime, however she has shown to be a capable of being a normal citizen working for the greater good, if prison is supposed to correct people and she has shown to be "correct" she should be led out.
I'm a bit confused about what has been cracked and not, lately quite a lot of BlueRay and HDDVD movies have shown up in 1080p format on my favorite torrent site. Ok, they might not have "cracked it" whatever that means, but they sure as hell have started distributing the movies.
But the GP statement was for stuff within last year. Just because something used to suck/be buggy/explode doesn't mean they haven't fixed it and gotten on the right track, so when someone gives a specific time frame it makes no sense to counter it with some data from outside that frame.
Speaking of trolls, second link was to a 2005 exploit, so that doesn't really count as being within last year does it now? And the other link looked like a SUSE problem, so who is trolling again?
We do know why. An expensive suit tells a tale of success, a pair of unwashed jeans and a torn T-shirt tells a tale of failure. This of course might not be the truth, first one could be someone trying to trick you out of your money, the second one could be protecting your freedom. But clothes are such a deep part of our nature - if you want people to listen to you you need to look like a success.

Leave databases to people who understands them!

Uhh that just gave me an idea.

Yeah, cause it really is much easier shaking a 40lbs computer and a mobile phone than google a howto.
Especially not to a corrupt one.

Would hate to be called on site early Saturday morning and have to travel across the south pole to get to my servers.

Until said provider goes tits up or even better, sells your data to someone else...
Your point being what? GP made a joke about the US dollar being less worth than the Canadian dollar and it seems to hold.

Nah, it will be $5 per month with additional charge of $0.2 per MB.
