This isn't a troll, its the truth about Microsoft only shops are a dwindling commodity and Mono was a non starter... but this doesnt make C# a 'worthless language'. What makes it a worthless language is that it has all the bad parts of C++ and Java without any of the benefits. Its kind of like a Perl module that would allow you to program in Fortran to run under the Perl interpreter in a Python shell.
Yes, you see this with companies like Cosco, who has stood that they will NOT lower their employee salaries in order to maximize profit in the short term. They do this under the idea that happier employees make better employees which will result in a better experience for the consumer(asked a Walmart employee for help lately?) Not all comapies are bad, but most are taking advise and guidance from a Wall Street that claims that you are nothing without maximum growth in the short term.
And that is really disgusting considering the fact that we are the worlds #1 producer of CO2. The response I heard to this yesterday was that we can't because it would cost us jobs if we had to slow down on energy consumption.
Isn't it funny how the conservatives can selectively decide when they care about jobs? I mean, so what if IT jobs are being outsourced over seas, according to Bush during the debates, he will enact some programs to help us get retrained at 'community colleges'.

See, I got my BS in CS at the University of Montana. There were brilliant people there but most were idiots. Since then I have worked with people from Harvard, MIT, Stanford, CMU etc, and again, most were idiots.
I always liked to say that my education was not defined by where I went to school, but what I did while I was there. I think that it depends on the individual, and Devry is probably like MOST schools: the resources are there if you want to take advantage of them.
The employer's responsibility is to tell the difference between the productive ones and the lazy ones. At any successful organization, they dont care if your from Harvard or Devry if you do your job and are productive. Give me a Devry graduate who is nimble and personable over a Harvard grad who is less productive any day.
Also: don't say that the general student at Harvard is smarter than the general student at Devry or University of Montana, lazy or not. That is NOT true. The only thing that getting into Harvard means is that someone had some influence. For cripes sake, didn't Bush go there?
Yes, lied to the senate. Let us all take the time to remember that Rice WAS the chief architect in recruiting Bush in the first place. Not that Wolfowitz had to 'fill the presidents head', Rice had already set forth the way that things were to be, and so it was.
I am amazed that she allowed someone as honest and decent as Richard Clarke to stay around as long as she did. Whenever anyone remembers her, let's remind ourselves that she has an Exon tanker named after her.
You know, the most interesting thing I found was that he seemed unwilling to use the words 'open source'. He used the term 'free software' several times. Do you think that he has been paid off by Stallman?
I agree with your sentiment. I am a strong believer (and participant) in open source and open standards. The problem I see is that too many people are stoked about these things as "Free as in free beer" and not Free as in freedom.
We have to understand that if we steal EVERYTHING, then our avenues of real freedom will be shut off as we lose credility and are swept under the rug in the massive corporate backlash that is SURE to follow.
What can we do? Grow up. Understand what kinds of freedom can really be gained from services like the torrent and benifit from them to help society. In short: get out of your Mom's basement and start contributing to our world. Who cares if you get free TV? It only rots your brain anyway.

Sun-isms Debunked

You know, this is a very real but very unfortunate aspect of Sun over the last couple of years. They could have embrased Linux, and looked like they would for a while. While Scott wonders why their bottom line sucks, we all know the answer. I think that it is WAY past time when Sun's board of directors started asking "Exactly what is it that we are doing? WHere is Scott taking us?" Again, we know the answer: in circles.
Well, now that we have that solved, take it as a warning would be jokesters: Not only will we not tolerate web standards jokes, we will not toerate them in on our non standard forum.
No. No I did not. If Sun were a real ally, Java would be open source. Sun IS willing to make money off the Linux market brand, but not willing to contribute a language that it freely distributes? This is because Sun understands that there is no way that it could compete against the open source model for value added packages if both sides have the source code. So he keeps us hanging, close to being a friend but all the while we feel a little strung along.
Sun is much like the playground kids:
Hey, Open_Source, you are my best friend! We are on the same team.
Psst, Bill, listen, I hate those guys. I am just pretending to be nice to them so I can help your team win... I can be on your team? Right Bill?
Uhm, yeah, you missed the joke.

Isn't that the mark of a good writer/journalist, that they can disassociate themselves from an onject/event/movement and discuss it objectively?

You mean like OpenOffice? ps2pdf?

Judging by some of these people here... yes. Yes I am.

No, Devry is a nationwide 'chain college' specializing in tech degrees. Supposedly, their graduates are rather hirable.

I agree with the ruling, but that does not change the fact that Howard Stern is a disgusting pig.

Better yet, is there an intrinsic link between the IT manager and the phone sex operator hating her/his job? Does one cause the other? ?
