Bitcoin seems to be more loved by the Libertarian sect, which doesn't seem to give a damn about environmental causes and thinks that polluting businesses should "self regulate" themselves. Yeah... because that worked so well back in the 1950's and 60's.
Unless is profitable, OR something that people in Red states enjoy doing like shooting guns or calling someone that looks like a woman a woman. Then it's OK to drop the ban hammer on them.
If they made Half Life 3 and Portal 3 exclusives to the SteamOS, it might actually become a popular gaming platform.
Hell, I'd configure dual boot on my Windows gaming system in order to play those titles if they were reasonably priced. Hell, they might even want to bundle those two games together with a copy of SteamOS on a USB thumb drive, making it the next generation Orange Box.
Sadly, you're probably right. Odds are that some wacko who read one too many Breitbart/Infowars/etc articles slamming Google and their political leanings decided to make themselves infamous by shooting up YouTube's HQ.
I really wish that people would find productive ways of showing their outrage instead of resorting to violence. Instead of killing innocent people over something as lame as Google's content rules, why not start a conservative alternative?
With Panera Bread, it's probably more like they let an outside vendor put in equipment on their network that wasn't secured properly, and they were probably relying on a separate (incompetent) vendor to insure that their network was secure.
Recompiling apps to work on ARM is the easy part. Finding replacements for all of these legacy apps that are no longer being developed is harder.
I'd imagine that companies like VMWare will have the toughest job, as they'll be expected to emulate x86 Windows and Linux apps on these new ARM Macs with decent performance.
Yeah, a story like this is kind of hard to believe. I know that Apple isn't as good as keeping secrets as it used to be, but a leak about Apple's product line 2 years from now almost never happens.
I'd love to see a second source of this information besides Bloomberg and the various tech blogs who are just pointing to the Bloomberg article.
He's trying to "Change The World", just like every other tech company in the Valley. At least, that's what they say during their quarterly conference calls, anyway.
Ajit Pai would only be interested in "investing" in public WiFi if Comcast and Verizon were interested in rolling it out as some sort of paid expansion to their customers existing service plans. The guy is their corporate plant, remember?
Yeah, that's total bullshit. I actually had a MyFitnessPal account at one point, and this is the first I heard of the breach. I didn't even know that Under Armour owned them now!
Yeah, unless they add "Delete Android call log history" button to their privacy controls interface, I'm not interested in their changes. Their app isn't going back onto my phone until they show me exactly what data they are collecting now, and what data they collected in the past.
I don't think that the 2013 era Nexus 7's get security updates anymore, so you're probably worse off doing your banking on that thing over public Wi-Fi than any Windows 10 system.
Bummer too, because I really liked that tablet. Google never made a real replacement for that form factor.
Probably their relatives are holding them back. You know the ones, who practically demand that you post pictures of your kids on Facebook so they can watch them grow up without getting off their lazy asses and coming to visit.
Why do the chat logs need to be fully analyzed? A basic keyword search would be enough to find most offenders.
I would honestly be surprised if they even had a human review the chat logs, as doing so brings up obvious privacy issues. Just have the search bot look for X number of fuck/piss/shit etc mentions within a 24 hour period, and send out an automatic account suspension notice. If you're dumb enough to exceed the threshold a second time, lock their account and ban their IP from the service. If the users get cocky and start using $hit and pi$$ instead, add those words to the ban list as well.
Seriously... This isn't rocket science, various chat programs and forum software have been doing this for years.
I think that a LOT of organizations are still using Java 6 and Java 7 in their business. I know that last two organizations that I worked for have.
An officially LT supported Java 11 release might be the excuse they were looking for to skip upgrading to Java 9 and Java 10 and go straight for that version.
Building sites catering to gun owners is good business. When eBay banned gun sales on their site, GunBroker.com was created to replace it. I'll bet that site makes mad bank every time there is a mass shooting and the Democrats threaten more gun bans. I remember some AR-15's going for around $2,000 on that site after Sandy Hook, twice their normal price.
(Hell, it almost makes me think that the dems are getting paid off by the gun manufacturers under the table to drum up sales. The Obama era was a HUGE windfall for them, and sales are down big now that Trump is in office.)
I'm thinking that bans like this are going to foster the growth of the "Conservative Internet", where people who are getting sick of Google/Reddit/Facebook's restrictions on things like guns and cryptocurrency ads will start their own competing sites.
Sure, most of these sites will be lame Libertarian clones of the existing social media sites out there, but who knows... This crackdown on the "undesirables" might spur the invention of the next Facebook or Google.
I'm surprised that's not already happening. The profit margins for mining crypto are so thin now that you basically need "free" power for the math to work out in your favor.

Now, now... We all know that the CNBC commentators are the true business experts. He'll bring them in to manage the USPS instead.
Honestly, it would probably just be easier to disable the thermal safety make the battery or motors overload and catch fire instead.
I would be curious if the frame would crack under the strain, though.
When did Slashdot last post a question where the answer wasn't NO? It seems that it's been awhile.

Yeah... not that I'm bitter or anything :)

Apple has always offered a 10% education discount on most of their hardware. I'm not sure why they are trying to hype this up like it's something new.
It might also explain why we haven't seen a self driving Alfa yet. It's stuck in early testing :)
Most of Reddit's first posts came from Slashdot articles as well, Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

You got to hand it to Elon Musk, though. He has the tech press turning his every word into a front page headline.
It reminds me of the constant Steve Jobs posts we used to see here 10 years ago.
