I mostly just link to other people's crap but most news sites are adapted from other media. They are allready paying the journalists, lawyers etc., they just have to adapt it to the web...which is what I do for free.
Maybe all soccer games are like this but I thought it was cool that the world cup games were televised without commercial interruption. Commercials would not have worked well with the continuous game play.
I wonder if sites like/. will ever go that way (charging a subscription fee). Currently my other favorite site kuro5hin offers a voluntary subscription service that offers extra (useless?) features that a free account doesn't have. I have been happy to see that/. has not gone in a similar direction but I wonder if it is inevitable.
I have a site and it is extremely cheap to run ($10/month on my friends server). I know my site doesn't have the bandwidth consumption or content that a site like the New York Times or/. has but is it really that expensive to run a site like that? I guess the NYT is much more concerned about turning a profit.

I think I got the titles and authors correct. I had to read them for a class and they were pretty good, especially for text books.
"Worried that orations used by 'godless communists' sound similar to the Pledge of Allegiance, religious leaders lobby lawmakers to insert the words "under God" into the pledge. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, fearing an atomic war between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, joins the chorus to put God into the pledge. Congress does what he asks, and the revised pledge reads: 'I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'"

What's so bad about godless communists? Some of my best friends are godless communists.
It gets really bad when version fatigue collides with creeping featurism. I think this is the case with Microsoft Office. With each new release the change how you access the old functions and and in a few more (useless) functions. When will the hurting stop?
I would say that Americans can't manage the technology as well as Japanese can. I don't know about the rail bereaucracy, but I am sure it is not the cause of Amtrak's seemings bi-anual derailments. Domestic saboteurs...not likely. Public funding of public transportation is horrible in the US, especially compared to Europe. Squawk?
Kenobi and Skywalker were pretty banged up. I don't think Yoda could have pushed them out of the way without endangering them. My question is why didn't Yoda sacrafice those wankers for the greater good. He could have let them get squished and taken out Dooku. When Kenobi and Skywalker were on that little ship chasing Dooku Skywalker's hoe fell out and Kenobi made him stay because getting Dooku was more important. Why wasn't it that important to Yoda?
Wouldn't taking away from Lawrence Livermore Labs budget be about the worst thing for homeland security, at least in the long run? I thought that is where the US develops a lot of military stuff. If GWB cuts off developed we will be fsked in the future when everyone has bad-ass weapons and we are still poking around with patriot missles.
What could be cooler than a linux handheld? With 20 gb, ethernet and usb no less. I really need one of these. It looks like it is already slash-dotted...does anyone know which Linux OS is comes installed with?
I would get one that plays cds with mp3s burned on them. That way you can convert your entire music collection to mp3 (it will probably only take a few cds) and listen to whatever you want.
It is more a matter of principle. First a government collects info about and next thing you know you are being persecuted for your beliefs. It has happened in the (historical) past. Beware Big Brother!
As messed up as it is I still don't think we want the government to take control of it. Doesn't ICANN deal with international business and domains? Why should our government have control over it?
Planes drop bits of their wing during flights? That is some scary shit! I hope I never see a plane do that, especially if I am on it. Does that really happen?

I love Ren and Stimpy because of the disgusting toilet-humour.
Damn! Where did my left sock go?

Imagine a beowulf cluster of those!
The pledge didn't even mention God until 1954:

Isn't linking to there linking policy a violation of their linking policy?

Could there be some kind of anology between the light side vs the dark side and Linux vs Microsoft.
Would that make Bill Vader? Which distro is Obi Wan Kanobi?

This story has been up for a few minutes and still not a single intelligent post.
I certainly don't want to break the trend.

The US isn't poor but it is still too stupid too consider OSS.
Was this really sponsored my Microsoft? Is there proof of that?

No wonder its taking them so long to get this movie out. How many years has it been since the first movie? And this one isn't out until next year.
