...and the Sheriff's Office has been a joke for almost all of them. Sheriff Joe's predecessor utterly botched an investigation into a high-profile mass murder at a local Buddhist Temple, so voters here were looking for change at any price.
I'm pro-law and order, but law and order means, well, law AND order, not Sheriff Joe's thuggery. He's cost the county millions in unnecessary lawsuits for brutality in his jails, his law enforcement tactics exist solely to grab headlines and intimidate his opponents and he's ruined inter-agency cooperation in Central Arizona for at least the near future.
The sooner we elect someone else, the better off we'll be.
It saddens me greatly that the country that gave the world the Glorious Revolution is now utterly incapable of electing a government that acknowledges that the rights of the governed trump the power of the government.
Any guesses as to how many more people will start following "Cyxymu" solely because of this attack?
It's called The Streisand Effect, Russia, and it's very real.
It's the texting that's the big issue. My wife teaches middle-school math, and she is constantly interrupting her classes to tell her students to put their not-allowed-on-campus phones away.
30 years ago, it was passing notes in class. Now it's texting. 30 years from now it'll brain-melding in class or something...
Well, I am a "Bible-thumping idiot". And this sort of thing scares me to no end. My family background is Scots-Irish, so that means we got kicked out of two perfectly good countries (including, ironically, Ireland) because our particular brand of "Bible-thumping" wasn't compatible with what others believed in. I don't want transubstantiation or premillennialism inscribed into the Constitution, I just want a country with laws that treats my beliefs with respect and dignity and not have to worry about people who label would me as a "Bible-Thumping idiot" attempting to take that right away from me.
They'd have to change their revenue model, though. Instead of walking up to the movie theater and paving $10 (or more) for a ticket to watch ALL of the movie, you pay $.25 and then get to watch the first 3 minutes of the movie. Want more movie? Pay another quarter. And another. And another. And another.
There, that'd REALLY replicate the experience of Asteroids on the big-screen.
The New York Times gladly hid behind the 1st Amendment and blabbed about a 100% legal, effective and yet secret means to track terrorist money around the globe, yet clammed up when it was their hide on the line.
although the 20 years I spent playing role-playing games and the fact that I'm on/. on Sunday night would indicate otherwise...
but...
I met my wife of 12 years at church. She's a math teacher, a bigger fan of science fiction than I am, and a strong believer as well.
She's also a hottie.
Look around, and you'll probably find a church that's compatible with your belief system, and most have singles groups of some sort. This is probably not that good of an option if you're looking for quick sex, but you may find a soulmate instead.
And for you Pastafarians, well, there's always Olive Garden.:)
Creative video games are, well, creative video games. Innovative game play and a rich playing experience make for a good video game, not more blood, guts, and T+A.
A good game is a good game, regardless of it's rating.
Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. (Emphasis mine)
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific technological elite.
It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.
Yes, I believe in salvation by grace alone (hey, what can I say, my family's Presbyterian.:) ). But I also believe that loving God means working for God as expressed in what we do with what the life we're given. And deciding to end my life on this Earth early, either by hand or someone else's, is taking this marvelous gift of life and throwing it away. Is that a sin? Dunno, others do, I don't. Is that taking a gift and throwing it back in the face of the one who gave it? IMO, yes.

Johnny Rotten,
"Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

Businesses treat taxation as damage and go around it. Or something like that.
Who do you think goes in and pulls the operators @$$es out of the fire when things go all pear-shaped?

... none of it was intelligent.
Apparently, someone needed to pay more attention in spelling class.

"Suit yourself."
All my geek friends mocked me for taking such a prissy language in college, but it was the only guy amongst the 20+ girls in class.

Not about the military-industrial complex, but rather, from that same speech
And bring about world peace!
I don't know. I 've forgotten it.
... I'm going to go with the Parable of the Talents as my answer to the question.

Now can we PLEASE get rid of that "Macs cost more than Windows" meme? :)
Yeah, I am still pretty neutral on the Joel v. Mike debate because to me, the heart of the series was always Trace.
Well, I think anthrocentric global warming is a load of hooey, and I drive a Civic Hybrid.
Wrap your brain around that for a while, then get back to me...
