  1. Re:Not necessarily a bad thing on Wii Owners Looking at a Nintendo Drought? · · Score: 1

"If you deliver excellent quality you can compete with Nintendo also on Nintendo systems. Classic example is Rayman Raving rabbits, probably the only non Nintendo must have title for the Wii. And just because the game really is designed for the wii (it would not work on other consoles that way, due to the control scheme)"

An even better example appears to be Elebits, which has been getting a lot of buzz from regular players (as opposed to gaming magazines). I haven't played it myself, but the word I've been hearing is that while there are a few graphics glitches, the game is original, clever, and addictively fun, and can't be pulled off on any other system. I'm seriously thinking of getting this before Rayman once I work through my initial Wii launch titles.

"Let me list a few things:"

Putting aside your entire message sounds like a Sony astroturf plant, I notice you didn't list anything having to do with the most important criteria for a video game system -- fun and games. At least the Wii can genuinely claim to deliver a new and more immersive video-gaming experience; to the layman, the PS3 is just Sony's rebranding of an XBox.

Paying $500-$600 to play the same games you can already get with an XBox 360 or a PS2 doesn't seem smart to me. But then, since you got yours for free, I guess that's moot...

That's not hard if you only have one to sell.

The thing that's really hurting is that, depite all the hype and the astronomical price, it's not substantially different or better than what the XBox 360 is offering. At least the Wii can claim lower price + novel controller; all Sony has is their brand, and the market is showing that there are some $600+ pills it won't swallow.

"Wow, this Cell-driven blood-splatter is so realistic!"
"Look at those awesome high-res textures!"
"Hey, the PS3 has twice as many attacking zombies as the PS2!"

Despite the current-gen graphics of the Wii (and what's wrong with current-gen, anyway?), the controllers will force innovation and creativity by forcing developers to think of new ways to use its motion-sensing and pointing capabilities. When even a threadworn franchise like Madden gets revitalized with the Wii's motion-based gameplay, that says a lot about the potential for developers trying out new ideas.

You left out Aliens vs. Predator (awesome atmosphere), Iron Soldier (a quasi-realistic mech combat game), and Tesmpest 2000 (still awesome after all these years). There were also some moderately decent arcade titles like NBA Jam Tournament Edition and Super Burnout to fill the gaps.

The two big things that killed the Jaguar were (a) it was designed to compete with the Super NES/Genesis just as textured polygon graphics were on the rise, and (b) cheap-ass incompetent mismanagement by the Tramiels. I swear, Jack Tramiel only kept the company running as a tax write-off for his sons more than anything else...
