I would love everything to be IPv6 now, but it ain't gonna happen for atleast 10 years I think. Even new equipment hasn't got IPv6:( That would solve problems like this, and create lots of lovely new ones:/
This is slashdot we are talking about here! Maybe people find it easier to express things as a mathmatical equation?
You did do maths, right?
LCD monitor prices have gone down alot over the last few months, this 15" LCD I've got, I paid £230, and it now costs ~£150, quite a bit of devaluation there I think:/
This is an outrage! I mean, I have a chipped XBox here in the UK, and I use it to run XBox media player, and play a few (legitimate) games I have. At some point in the future, I will be running linux on it as well, as I can sit in bed and browse the web. Not as bad as it sounds:) I think DCMA is disgusting, it gives corporations the rights that they don't need!
Heh, thanks to my Slashdot subs, I have already downloaded this release, and I must say, the smooth scrolling is lovely:)) Well, its not majorly different, but nice. about:config anyone? Get it for cheap thrills of smooth scroll if you havn't already:D
You insensitive clod! If you had actually read the article, he did compare this device to normal TV tuner cards, and he said something to the effect that he often had problems with them, and scan artefacts etc. If you were to use your monitor like a full time television, you don't really want to have a PC running it! For starters, PCs make noise (lots of!), they go wrong (sometimes quite frequently) and they require turning off before you go to sleep. Yes, I know I could get a remote control for the pc and get it to shut itself down. But it's much quicker to have a device you can turn off instantly, and then the monitor goes in to standby. I have a lesser model, made by someone else, which just scan doubles and has a remote. It works better than any TV I've seen at what I paid for device (£150) + monitor (£100 off a friend). Oh, did I mention that a PC makes alot of noise as well?
I am good friends with a local computer company, reasonably small, but getting bigger, and very popular, (I also do some work for them, but I digress), they tend to get lots of 3rd party fixes (PC World for example) and obviously, they fix their own as well. They have loads of fujitsu drives laying around, just an initial look shows whole hd holders (what a package of drives are held in) of FAILED FUJITSU DRIVES! They must get atleast a few PER WEEK! They now only sell Seagate drives, and the odd maxtor:). They havn't had one failiure yet on them. .. Forget slagging off without evidence, they have all the evidence you could want there against Fujitsu.
Flame me if you want, but I think halo on the xbox is very good to look at and play! I just can't wait until it comes out on the PC. Even at telly resolution, Halo looks lovely:)
There is lots of traffic that doesn't really belong on wireless networks. Isn't the transfer rate bad enough without unneeded traffic clogging up the airwaves? Also, how secure is this system, will this make networks easier to break in to?
We had Robot Wars, which was much much better than your version (late night bravo anyone?). I can see why they want to cancel it. Live in the 'land of the free'. America shouldn't be called that for a long time now. The real 'land of the free' at the moment is england:)
I'm just looking at the radio stations avaliable, if you can call them that anyway. All they are is a set list of songs, if you don't like a song on the 'radio' you can skip it:) Wish I could do that sometimes with real radio!
Wow! I'm impressed! I was on a mac at my cousin's house and it had only 1 decent game I could find:/ If its open source on MacOSX wouldn't it be easily re-written for most platforms? Assuming a standard language anyway. Does OSX have something special in the programming language that could stop this?
I've been poking around on the palm site, and I can't find a link anywhere! I own an m130. Can anyone help me? Please? I want my free copy of Sim City.
Does anyone read slashdot these days? I'm talking about the posters that is! Don't waste front-page space, regardless of how class the link actully is:P
The mysql designers aren't stupid, and neither are the php designers. If you have an error with the login, instead of showing the password, it shows PASSWORD in its place. Its not the actual password!:P
I saw this years and years ago when I was surfing around for information on making a computer dolby pro-logic decoder, although, I'd like to make a ac3 decoder now, but thats another story entirely;).
Whats the point of this article? You still need very expensive bit of software to make them in to wavs...

Doesn't this sound like the MPAA, Microsoft a la RIAA trying to make piracy sound like terrorism, and get the public all jumpy and hate piracy?
..
Next, they will be saying that filesharing funds terrorism too.
Now, with 100% less rudeness than smoothwall!

Damn!
We still did it better none-the-less (in my opinion).
Ah well, I was wrong.

Slashdot Mod 1: "Oh damn! We're running out of news stories for Slashdot because none of the submissions are up to scratch. What will we do??"
Slashdot Mod 2: "I know, lets repost a story from yesterday!"
Slashdot Mod 1: "Sounds like a great idea! If anyone starts asking questions, lets just call it an accident, that'll keep those slashdotters busy!"
Slashdot Mod 2: "Perfect! Now, where are my donuts?"

Such a shame the psx2 is pants in comparison to the xbox eh?
. .was to look at the lovely apple OS X styling of the slashdot logo :)
