to be honest with you, i didn't even know it was still around. So this article was a little surprising to me. I'm all for the software, the same way I'm all for the V chip. The people who came up with this and the ones who impliment it feel better about us heathens, and the general public never use them, and forget about the whole thing.
Let the system think it's safe, while the rest of us go on with our lives like normal. Hope I explained that well enough.
Are we overlooking the RIAA business model is a little more out of date than the drm he's killing on a daily basis? I'm all for dealing with the man:eye roll:, but until the RIAA is brought into the 21st century, or drm becomes more friendly (uh huh), this whole itunes, dvd jon etc are all moot.
if i'm not mistaken, Microsoft did this EXACT same thing with Messenger, and then was forced to back down from it. Now if someone(or something) can force billy down, I don't see how a 3rd world isp like aol can actually let this ride out. Any bets on seeing a new ToS in a few weeks?
Although to be honest, I've not met anyone using aim in 3 or 4 years, does anyone actually use it?
(trillian plz, k tnx)
I think it's nice everyone's all worked up over how much is under xbox2's hood. But what good is any of this, if all it has are 400 sports games, 62 Halo expansions, and maybe (doubtful) an rpg?
Sorry, I don't feel the X2 will have anything anyone but either most basic gamer, or hardcore epenis gamer will want.
3rd party rpg titles, backwards compatibility, and random stuff like the uh... Damacy(sp) game will keep Sony in the lead for at least this next generation. After that however, MS may just get the idea that games sell a console... but I'd give them a few more years to learn that.
Star Ocean 2/3 > Halo * in my book
I understand what you're saying, and while I think you're making perfect sense; stop and think for a moment. We all knew when they were in the theater that an "uncut" version was due some time after the movie(s) were out, yes? This was not the case with Star Wars. In fact, as far as I can tell, he's not editing and changing scenes (in LOTR), but adding in things that had to be cut for the theater. While similar, these two events should not be compared to each other, unless you're trying to troll.
I've installed at last count close to 30 xp (home and pro) boxes, all from scratch in the last year (and not a single virus from any of them)... and I fail to see how you can get a virus/cracked in the matter of an hour (or three, or however long the instal takes). I instal/update, instal FW, and then Av. I'll admit I'm no guru, but where are these coming from? Are you checking email w/outlook before installing patches, or downloading pr0n or something?
One man's terrorist is another man's capitolist. I like how you manage to compare dead people to record companies... I want what you're smoking.
It's collusion, it's illegal... but it's the riaa... so it's a form or terrorism.

I agree, and you're most likely right. I'm one of those weird people that gets prepared before they go out.

While I'm sure this was a good idea 10 years ago... it's almost 2004. Auto mp3 players are under $150, who actually listens to the radio anymore? I've not listened to anything FM for 4 or 5 years... sounds like they're a little behind the times.
similar to this topic, I'd like to present a question to copyrighted works on dvd that end up going into the public domain (ex: "A Boy and His Dog", early Don Johnson movie). As something like this would be in the public domain, yet bound by the DMCA as the dvd is css'ed, how are these instances treated in terms of "piracy" and the dmca itself?
Amen. While I don't like to down a movie not even completed... I'm saddened to think that one of the most overhyped, over advertised, and over fanboy'd will be made into a live action. As if the dub wasn't bad enough, now we'll have to SEE the people acting in it. I'm sure they'll rename and change things for us poor confused americans, since the dubbies are obviously the reason this is being made. I can't argue with the majority though... as sad as it is, that's where the money is:(
My apex has multi-scan for both sets of signals, and I've watched a few dozen r2's on it (I'm in the US r1), and without it being set to multi-scan, I get the standard PAL b/w scrolling, etc. So you're correct sir, it's the player and/or vcr that does signal branding.
Every company wants a release as close to Xmas as possible. I can't imagine a money maker like Lotr not coming out any other time (assuming as before, there would only be one released). I see it as a money making move, rather than a "we're not done yet, so we have to wait" deal.
I just bought the first release disc, so i could replace my vcds. I plan to replace the 2 disc set with the 5 disc box when that comes out. I don't feel put out, or like I've been ripped off at all. I mean, $15 to buy a disc I'll be watching til November isn't so bad. It'll sell on Ebay for $20 to people that have no idea there's a $30 set, or an $80 box. My father just bought the 2 disc set also, and he's fine with not buying the box this fall. My sister however says she wants the box as I do. Everyone's happy (except those who like to complain I guess).
I also own two copies of the hobbit (a 2nd and 7th editions) as well as 3 complete sets of the other books (2nd, 4th, and uh... 7th? editions). Besides, if they *only* released the 4 or 5 disc box, we'd be without watching a dvd-quality lotr til November... and I couldn't wait that long.
Buy now, and sell it to a used dvd store, or on ebay when the other comes out. Trust me, it's not the end of the world.
www.google.com try "star wars" or, if you're up to it www.starwars.com

Is there a way to mod the Op as flamebait, or no?

i was going to say, this was announced a LONG time ago. There WAS a reason the original Battle Angel dvds went of of print ya know ;)

as of 5:48pm EST, I'm getting a "cannot find" error on it, /.'ed already? Anyone care to mirror the article?
I've always used Bob@Dole.com, since 97 or so. I use 42@Beeblebrox whenever someone asks me on the street.
