I agree totally. IT in North America has imploded. I don't know if any other career area has expanded to compensate. Maybe healthcare?
This person should be extolling the benefits of IT jobs to Indian and Pakistani girls. At least until the global market moves everything to Subsaharan Africa - or Detroit.
ipod photo looks like a niche item. An artist remarked that she can put her whole portfolio on the thing and whip it out for an impromptu show. She can do the same thing with a website but it's less portable. People who are into digital photography bigtime would like one, too. But the ipod photo is an odd combination.... I guess they just had the parts laying around and figured they could offset the minor development costs with relatively few sales. (??)
Can they know if they have a bomb without doing any testing?
Can they do any testing without setting every nuke detector off in that part of the world? I didn't think you could keep this secret. After 50 years of cold war paranoia and nonproliferation testing, I thought we could detect any nuclear detonation anywhere, underground, etc.
I'm sure Fiorina had to have had a lot of very strong business experience before she was hired. But all the featherbedding and powergrabbing has been such a disappointment. And yes, comments about the golden parachute she's sure to get are very apt.
.. plus trailers,
and flying logos,
and "the making of.." shorts,
and advertaintment,
and Burger King promo's
and music videos,
and multilanguage interpol warnings,
and game software,
and anti piracy overhead.
Insofar as computer hardware and software cannot yet deal with the human condition, ie the range of hope, pain, despair, and joy, then art will be outside their capability.
I thought we pulled out because we were no longer willing to slaughter 10's of 1000's of hapless people who believed they had to fight to the last man to save themselves from being invaded and taken over by the u.s. So it was moral disgust, not military defeat, that got us outta there. Just like in Iraq...
alleviating poverty is a very good thing. I sincerely hope and believe that high speed internet will raise the standard of living.
about taking "american jobs"... what are you going to do when you become sick of low-paying american IT hand-me-downs only to discover they've all moved to China, SubSaharan Africa and other sh*tholes?
There's beens some comments in the news recently about jet pilots being dazzled by bright light (apparently laser light) just as they were about to land.
Would there be a treatment for cockpit glass that would prevent the pilots from being blinded, but still letting normal light in?
One of my in laws made a big stink when he found out we gave his 12 year old son a little laser pointer.
If these things are really harmful, how can they sell them on the impulse rack next to the breath mints, gum, and playing cards?
Why isn't primetime TV pre-empted for round the clock coverage of this? 8 Americans dead isn't enough to pre-empt programming.
I was puzzled at first by the lack of American coverage. BTW I am American and I care.
Yes of course there's the 'poor foreigners' aspect which changes our level of concern. But there are other factors.
The cause of this catastrophe is better understood in nature and scope. This was a natural catastrophe, not an attack. There was one earthquake and one (set) of sea waves. In 9/11 no one knew if more attacks were imminent so a prolonged state of alert was probably necessary. And 9/11 demanded a different political response. No one, not even George Bush, is going to launch missles against a sea trench.

I'm sure the CIA knows whether they have...
uhh, nevermind.

Carly - was it always only about YOUR money?
Holy crap!! That didn't take long. That kind of fast revisionism woulda made Orwell smile.

I guess the barcode-on-the-forehead project didn't go so well.

now if they were powered by FAT cells, we'd really have something....
... but when they finally decide to let their currency float, they'll be in for a HUGE shock... and the longer they wait, the worse it'll be.
"jobs suck" ... "I give blowjobs"....
sounds recursive.
"I for one welcome our Earthly overlords..."
I guess people see stick of gum next to ipod & think 'tasty!'.
Vatican condemns treehouses.
