Would it be possible if every vehicle, person, ship, engine and everything else that contacts the ground were all pointing towards the East, and floored it, ran, whatever all at the same time, the earth slowed it's rotation?
Thanks ok so if the only difference is one is udd and the other is uud, then the "mass" in each is the same I suppose. And each would contain roughly the same exotic particles as the other. Maybe I'm just caught up in the god particle frenzy. I should stick to trying to understand string theory instead.
Just curious, but why do they only smash protons and not neutrons? Is it because the proton has a charge and thus can be flung around by the magnets? I mean if they are looking for elusive particles like the Higgs, I would think it would more likely be held inside a neutron rather than a proton.
This is why I love the Skyfire browser on my Windows Media 6.1 HTC Kaiser (Tilt). Skyfire looks to me like they stream the browser which is actually running on a server somewhere and then forwards input from my device into the browser. It has great zooming capabilities, can play flash movies etc from most sites and is very fast. In this way, the browser is always at the latest version and is a full-fledged fat-client browser.
That's probably how Outlook looks to a lot of people when they first see it. For Wave, a user list on the left, in the center, a list of Wave "conversations", and on the right, the actual content. Does that seem to overwhelm you? That's pretty much the standard format for any website or application (three frames). The bulkiness of what I've seen seems to be Facebook-y design elements like the user icons. In addition screen resolution on screenshots and demos seem to be around 1024x768. If there is a way to use small user icons or a "detailed view" of waves, then I think it will be a pretty fluid environment.
Tell all your web admins to focus on the real security threat - locking down and upgrading servers exposed to the internet. All this hoopla about social networking is great and all, but seriously the threat that will most likely take down your company or network is your exposed equipment and servers. Quit slamming the users with "Don't do this don't do that" crap, policies and spend your time and money on the real threats. Users will do what they can do. If you don't want them to visit Facebook, filter it. If you don't want them to use online storage or logmein, filter it. If you don't want them to use usb keys, lock down the hardware. But all the time you are spending on those tasks, the script kiddies will be trying to exploit your hosted services with the latest and greatest vulnerability.
Keep it short and simple, something like "You are going to get denied. If you find you are able to circumvent our security or see a problem with our security, let us know, otherwise, we'll eventually find out what's going on and you'll be held responsible."
The time required to make this work seems too long to be practical. I would think we'd have a year at most to find an asteroid on a collision course. Furthermore, I think we should concentrate our efforts on finding the rocks that are a threat.
I've always thought it would be best to use some kind of propulsion system to help move the asteroid in it's same direction causing it to overshoot us. Trying to change it's current vector or trajectory seems like it would be wasting energy.
No way in h - e - double hockey sticks would I bring my production notebook on a trip with me overseas. What if 4 years ago, you got malware that distributed something you never knew about existed on your box? What if you had a phone number (or series of numbers) somewhere on your machine that was suspect? Too many what-ifs; I'll bring a freshly wiped notebook on my next trip and only the bare minimum files needed for my job.
I wonder what software they use to scour the machines they investigate? Or is it just some agent poking around looking for encrypted files and folders?
I generally watch my email out of the office and hop on an issue if it's pressing, but I know when I know I've been working too much. It's that stress thing. My boss knows when I've been killing it and working weekends and overtime, she signs my hours every other week. If I'm stressed and working too much I'll tell her straight up, this is too much. I need a break or help or whatever. If you're not willing to work overtime, crunch on a weekend, come in on saturday or sunday once in a while, then this is not the right career for you. Adjust your hours so that a couple nights a week, you work off hours.
Every Thursday I work from 12 - 9pm. Gives me a chance to bounce servers, setup workstations, and all the other stuff you'd normally be bugging people about if they were in the office. But yeah, be your own judge of what's too much and if your boss can't accept you won't come in on Sunday after you've already done 10 hours OT and came in on Saturday as well, then your boss is an ass. If you boss is an ass, then talk to his/her superiour or find a different job. A lot of what stresses me out are my other clients, friends/family/associate's PC"s and networks I work on outside of work. But that's where the real good money is so I deal with it and fix VPN tunnels on Sunday instead of taking a nap and send an invoice. If I was smart I'd drop my clients, but they're friends and family and they appreciate my help much more than the corporate dregs.
This is just sad. You know the security was just all over the guy saying "you're going to lose your job, never find work again, you will be sued, lose your house, and your wife/girlfriend will leave you too!" No doubt they probably shoved him around trying to intimidate him. If they were so concerned about their prototypes they'd remotely wipe them, RFID, Lojack etc. etc. Yeah the guy may have misplaced it but mistakes occasionally happen. Doc the guy the price of the phone from his pay and be done with it. If it turns up on some blog somewhere, then go after him for non disclosure. Still, I can never understand suicide, perhaps the guy had other issues and this just was the tipping point.

Anyone know where to get a copy of the beta? I'd like to put it on a machine I just built.
And I like it. I was a little hesitant about taking the time to "evaluate" W7 for a year until it expires, but now I'm glad I took the plunge. It does seem quicker than Vista, but I did go from 32bit to 64bit Ultimate and am able to utilize all of my 4GB of memory. All my (Acer Ferarri 5000) drivers were found with the exception of my built-in webcam and a Mass Storage Driver. The installer found my XP partition and adjusted my boot menu as well so no complaints so far. Having a bit of trouble installing MS ForeFront, but otherwise Windows Media Center is able to play my.avi movies. The default theme uses all of Vista's default sounds, although there are 5 different themes with different sounds. The taskbar is the biggest difference using (linux-like) tiles and the start menu has a few extra available options (such as "Homegroup" menu) for searching through other media libraries. There are a few new apps like "Windows DVD Maker" and Bitlocker Drive Encryption is pretty prominent also. If you're running a 32bit Vista and have 64bit CPU's I encourage you to backup and then try Windows 7 RC1 when it's released to the general public tomorrow.
After I eliminated caffeine from my diet, my Dyshidrosis Dermatitis is significantly more manageable and I have far fewer outbreaks. Now if I even drink one cup I notice my skin breaks out significantly. Alcohol has as similar effect but dries out my skin even further causing painful cracking.
Would stem cell therapy be considered drug therapy? I wonder why the FDA provides approval? Is that the only government agency that enforces this type of research? Me thinks it's great that this "work toward curing disease such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes." is finally getting the approval it deserves.
By "Researchers" they mean "Homeland Security officers" who were contacted by "Police" who were contacted by "Hospital Staff" who had become sickened by "vagrants" admitted to emergency rooms with strange "green glowing skin" who had admitted to trying to sell a "Safe" they found in the "dump".
From an article I read on Wired what seemed to have brought the downfall upon Butler was some of his associates got nabbed for trying to use stolen cards to buy expensive retail items and then fence them on Ebay for cash. Seems to me that old fashioned F**k-ups are the way these guys usually get taken down. Also from the article I read that corrupt retailers and waiters use portable card readers to steal all mag data on the card. How would you protect yourself against that kind of attack?
Yeah that's true, also someone said I could buy a Pay-as-you-go phone from a retail store and just switch the sims. But I don't use crappy phones either, like right now I have an HTC Shadow smartphone. I've got a screen saver, rubber case, and am protecting it with my life! lol
I believe the true benefit of this technology will not be for cloning, but for general medicine. For example, you would go to the doctor with a lump, and instead of him doing a biopsy, find cancer, chemo, invasive surgery etc etc, they first take your DNA, sequence it and then take the biopsy and identify the origin of the cancer (is the lump actually metastasized from your pancreas?). Then work on resolving the cure just based on your genetic makeup, rather than a shotgun approach. Additionally medicines for genetic problems, and a number of other diseases would be custom-tailored for your genetic makeup. If you are prone to hypertension, your DNA sequence could prove if you carry the genes for that malady. Really what this is about is a revolution in medicine. It's a private company now that is snatching up all the biggest heads in silicon valley - if and when this goes public, it could be an amazing investment.
I've found that GetDropBox.com is a great tool for replicating files across machines. It has a 2gb "Free" version but I'm wondering if there is a paid service for more space? Only those files that are changed are replicated, very bandwidth friendly, etc.
So does that mean we have to wait for 10 billion years to prove this actually happened? For all we know, those black holes were just a convergence of fake radiation created just to trick us into believing this actually happened. And then, who knows, 10 billion years from now, they'll erect a sign saying "u wer pwnd!" Give me some fricken verifiable data a little closer to earth wouldya?
Just thinkin...

ah hah, I see, like botox and other bacterial medicines. Yes that makes sense now. thanks!
