The CPCC gets it first. They split it up into licensing groups who each seem to have their own way of compensating people they represent.
For example, SOCAN gets a chunk of the private copying royalties from CPCC. They figure out how to distribute to their members by conducting rolling samples of the radio, and receiving performance notices from venues.

"Ladies and Gentleman, my client did attempt to download the leaked version of U2's album, but instead received misleadingly named and tagged sounds of goats fornicating. He deleted it/so hard/ that he overwrote the sectors a thousand times each."
Ever get ID'd while writing a personal cheque to the grocery store? Or maybe the gentleman behind the till didn't like the signature on your credit card receipt?
I didn't _have_ to show ID, but decided to humour the cashier. You look less like a counterfeiter if you show ID.
Oh yeah. I'm from Toronto.
Yes, my first post sucked. It was karma whoring at its basest. I've read your entire post and nodded my head. Your post, this article, AndroidCat's reply, and this article have made this teenager slightly less ignorant. Thank you. (I'll be willing to put that in writing if you want.)
Now, here's why I think this article is dangerous, sans my contorted view of Godwin's Rule.
Rather than discuss the negative ramnfications of recording people in public, the ACLU director Barry Steinhardt is quoted as saying "What this demonstrates is that '1984' is now technologically possible."
The problems with this I have are that 75 cameras viewing the public does not demonstrate that 1984's millions of cameras in home and in public are feasable. It does not discuss the negative effects of cameras in public. It stirs fear by using a book as reference, a book that includes torture as a punishment for thought crime.Plus, references to 1984 are almost as done to death as references to Nazis.
Nope, not alone at all. I've always got windows tiled over my desktop on my windows machine. Eventually, I replaced Explorer with Litestep and shut off the desktop.
However, on my freebsd machine, ion is very nifty. It lets me keep the windows tiled but makes it much easier to swap between windows too. Plus, it's designed to be used entirely with a keyboard, as opposed to most window managers where mousing with the odd keyboard shortcut is expected.
I've handed over thousands of dollars in cash for computers no problem. The worst flak I've ever caught was "may I see some ID?" while $1000 in 20s were passed under a UV light. I initially declined, but then flashed my driver's license because I didn't want to go to another store. Nothing was noted down, the cashier was too busy checking bills.
I've only been ID'd once, but I've bought PCs, a laptop, and a thousand dollar PDA all in cash with no problem. Everyone has checked at least half the bills under a UV lamp though.
Hell, a bunch of places have offered to let me avoid tax on small items if I pay in cash.
Does it work? Yes, this advertises a boost, but so do a bunch of products for cell phones that are purely decorative.
I had to sell these for a small retail store, and to this day I feel guilty. A local newstation did an expose where they found there was zero conductive material at all in these stickers.
Fire? Yeah, I didn't have long to wait for that one. I was sixteen when my family lost our backups. When dad cut costs by closing his office and moving his computers home, he put them all into our storage room. Right next to the backups.
When the fire hit we lost two AS/400s, a couple dozen PCs, and about 30 backup tapes. No one was hurt, but did we ever have problems with the insurance company.
Remember when Homer tried to claim he had a Picasso and a collection of antique cars in his basement? We got the same reaction from State Farm.
Japan has the bukkake, America has the thousand island dressing, and India has the Kama Sutra. I'm sure the geeks who picked it up as a guide will also welcome a better demonstration.
No pins, notches on the side, and a new locking mechanism.. now can they finally get rid of that "Only to be installed by a professional" caption on the damn CPU box?
Because not everyone burns these files to redbook cds, which is what the levies are intended for. If you burn a hundred mp3s to a cd-r and play that on a cd based mp3 player, they don't get as much money as if you burned them onto 8-10 CD-Rs. Plus this way they can collect from people who don't download, just like they get the royalties from people who want to back stuff up!
The CPCC mentions that there won't be a final say on the levies or mediums. This may be part of their next review. If there were a Canada-only P2P network that I could upload to and download from, I'd love it.
"L.A. County Bans use of Master/Slave Term.... LA County now requires that vendors working with the county remove all 'master/slave' references."
Contrast this to the snopes article, which says: The County of Los Angeles has requested that equipment vendors avoid using the industry term "Master/Slave" in product descriptions and labelling.
There's a big difference between request and require. And banned? Hardly. I doubt anyone's going to get fined or sued over this.
They sell the same junked ads to different people. When you buy it you get the rights to it for 12 months for your intended market in a geographic area. Doesn't specify what area, price probably varies depending on whether you want exclusive use in the state or a city.
You're kidding! Oh, I'd have loved to see that! Just curious- what did they name the sportsguy? Everyone knows Joe as "that I am Canadian guy," but who's the I am Australian guy?
Wouldn't a familiar scene and tune already associated with another product just be free advertising for the previous product? If I see that "I am Canadian" speech in commercials, I'll still think of Molson even if it's about commemerative coins from the mint.
When people use stock photos in ads they generally photoshop in other junk, but with tv commercials being so expensive I'm going to expect a lot of identical commercials with different names tacked on the end. After all, it's targeted to those with low budgets.
..woot! Thanks, I didn't find any of that in the article. If any good HK movies start to be published in that format, I'll read more. But right now I'm happy with my collection of subtitled DVDs.
I don't think we have Spotify. I tried to preview it and got:
Spotify is available in the following countries:
* Finland
* France
* Norway
* Netherlands
* Spain
* Sweden
* United Kingdom

Attempted copyright infringement isn't a crime. ;)

Gee, I didn't think of that. My ass hurts from -1 overrated.

If you make a Nazi or 1984 reference, you lose.
Hahhaha! That sooo reminds me of bigger than cheeses. If I had points I'd mod you up.
(Doom 3 was meant to come out Christmas '03, but it didn't)
Dashing through the demons,
in a single player eff-pee-ess,
through the corridors we go, shrieking all the way!
Ahh-ha-ha-ha!
Belts on chainguns fling, barrels blazing bright,
what fun it is to kill and sing a slaying song tonight!
Ohhh.. Doom in hell, Doom in hell, iD's game is almost here!
Oh what a price it is to buy, just fifty four ninety niiii-ine!
Pick it up at Best Buy, EB Games, or Gamespot!

You're right, they're going after uploaders.
One bit about the game copying: game copying isn't protected. Not even audio recordings such as audio books. Only music copying is allowed.
Private copying info here Section 80 is the relevant part, and note how it only covers music.

Oops! Yes, acx100 is what I meant.
:) Right now I'm just using DriverLoader.
And whoa, unsolicited help. This isn't what I expected. Thanks.
I've had the same problem with D-Link, and it really pisses me off. Both with the Broadcom based PNA2.0 adapters and their asx100 based wifi adapters.
I wonder how well DriverLoader will work with this.

sportsguy = spokesguy. I really oughta proofread.
