Polling it can do, but AJAX is so much more than that. It enables interactivity much the someway a thick client desktop application does. Whether the execution of the code is being done on a remote location or a local system is really irrelevant. I'd even go so far as saying, if done right, it can make a large portion of thick client desktop applications space obsolete.
Umm, what if you become unhappy with their service and want to opt-out? Anytime you lock-in a consumer you're not being reasonable in my opinion. I mean, if I'm unhappy why shouldn't I be able to change service?
This is not a matter of writing poor compilers. That's not what's being discussed. When you have ~90% market share and have bought every OEM you simply can't by law do what Intel is alleged to have done which is case of corporate sabotage. Again, sabotage is unlawful.
I suppose in your argument they could also insert an extra for-loop that consumes an extra second or two for anything that isn't an Intel product and that'll be OK?
It doesn't but it shouldn't slow them down. That's like saying we'll generate code right for our stuff. For your stuff, well, we'll just generate bad code even though the code we generate for our stuff works for your stuff.
If you don't know, sabotage is unlawful and I'm pretty sure won't make your argument in court if it did indeed detect AMD chips and generated poor machine code for them.
I would pay that much money if it lets me stream divx/xvid from my home PC and I can surf the web with the damn thing openly (unlike PSP hack). If I can record live TV with it even better (doubt it though).
Everything else is already peachy with me. Can't wait for Warhawk and God of War II!
Dumb and Dumber? Seriously, could they have taken less flattering picture?

We were one of the earliest adopters of Hibernate. In fact, we even took the Hibernate source code and altered it to meet our needs. Eventually we encountered complex problems that couldn't be solved with Hibernate and settled for iBATIS instead. We have to write our own queries but that's a given for any complex project. And I personally like the idea of placing your queries in an XML resource file. Perhaps this is doable with Hibernate now but at the time it wasn't.
Performance cost of using frameworks (spring or struts for that matter) is next to nothing. Performance problems are often due to bad design and coding practices. Just yesterday I fixed a bug where one of our developers wrote a query to get hundreds of records and then needlessly go back to the database for each of those records to retrieve related data.
Simple and fast servlet solution? Seriously, what does that mean?

Exactly. They always state we'll do it if the customers want it. Well I use to be a customer and I dropped their asses because they didn't to AMD among other things.
I can't believe you're in this business and yet you haven't done any basement work. I have plenty fun projects lying around. Get in the game and create an application or two for FUN.
p.s. Honestly, I would hire your ass if you can't show me things that you have done outside of work!

I've never really question the Gates motives for donating but I do I believe "is this a donation without strings attached?" is a legitimate question.

Are you serious? The question shouldn't be "why would I want to delete an email" but rather "why can't I delete an email easily!"
I can't believe the parent post is marked insightful.
Fluid my ass. Trying deleting an email fluidly!
Slap on couple of sensors and its revolutionary? Please! This is nothing more than a tweak and an aggregation of what's currently available.
Actually it reminds me of hotel and in flight TV remote controllers that allow you to play games along with watch movies.
Different? A little. Revolutionary? Hardly.
It's a job offer when you are well know.
No wonder they are selling Hertz...Hertz owes more than 10 billion to creditors. I'd offload them ASAP.

EFF is a non profit organization. While dedicated to electronic related causes they could decided to use the Cuban donation to overthrow Fidel Castro.
