You've got to be kidding me. Using a fresh install of Vista on the same box as a fresh install of XP is like night and day difference in speed. After you optimize BOTH (not just Vista), it's STILL a vast difference in speed.
This is to be at least somewhat expected with every OS release that packs in more features, but the problem this time is that the new features in Vista are what, exactly? DRM that doesn't benefit the consumer? More anti-piracy that doesn't benefit the user? A flashy GUI that, in daily use, doesn't benefit the user?
Why should Apple pay MORE for using bandwidth? I already paid for the bandwidth my connection uses (for iTunes or anything else) on my end and Apple paid for on their end. Why in the world would you suggest there be another fee when we both already paid for what we are using?
Read up on Hyper-V and you'll see it requires a management OS on top of the hypervisor. It is expected this will be Server 2008 "core" but it's still an entire OS compared to VMWare's hypervisor-only approach. I just watched a Microsoft video of this today from Mark Russinovich.
Except MS App Virtualization requires a heavy infrastructure to be in place and agents must be preinstalled everywhere you want to run the virtualized software.
Thinstall on the other hand requires no heavy infrastruture nor client-side agents. And they happen to have just been purchased by VMWare.
If you want a nice phone, get an unlocked Nokia N95-3; you get 3G speeds, a 5Mpixel camera, stereo speakers, GPS (works with Google maps), a Safari web browser, and lots more.
And yet it doesn't have a touchscreen or a full keyboard, which makes input a major chore in comparison.
But what exactly do you get that you didn't have before if you pay $43k for a BMW? What does a luxury car *do* that your Hyundai won't
Not a car person, eh? This is the equivalent of a non-computer person asking "why would you spend $2,500 on a desktop computer you put together yourself when you can just go to Wal-Mart and buy a pre-assembled computer for $200?" I mean all computers do basically the same thing, right?
BTW, the BMW web site is happy to go into great detail on what your extra money will get you. I suggest reading up on it if your at all interested in mechanical engineering.
Yeah, and how much a month extra is that GPS routing feature? I know that Verizon charges something like $10/month for their navigation. I'm willing to pay exactly $0 a month for hardware I purchased. I am willing to pay for a cellular service, but not for hardware that doesn't even USE a cellular provider's infrastructure.
Don't forget the 360 wireless adapter for $100. Wireless not being built in is absolutely absurd given how the console revolves around Live.
And if that price doesn't shock you (although it should given that both a name brand wireless router and wireless bridge COMBINED can be had for less than $100), consider that the 360 wireless adapter is 40% of the cost of a Wii console.
I tried out three for about 20 minutes and found them a right royal pain in the ass to use, Window Mobile had a more intuitive and user friendly interface and given how bad Windows Mobile's interface is that is saying a lot.
This is nearly impossible for me to believe. The interface has been the bane of WinMo devices right from the start! You can complain about iPhone's lacking features and have credibility about it, but to say it's less user friendly than Windows Mobile is downright ludicrous. Give an iPhone and any WinMo phone to someone that's never used either, and they'll have figured out 90% of the iPhone's features in 10 minutes and probably still be trying to open a text message on the WinMo phone.
I find all on screen keyboards difficultly to use and the reported lack of Exchange functionality and picture messaging make it well and truly worse than my 2yr old Nokia that I paid AU$250 for (which can sync with OL and picture message).
Exchange != Outlook. The iPhone syncs with Outlook just fine. Exchange is for businesses, not home users (the target market for Apple).
The only thing it proves is that Gene Simmons is more interested in MONEY and FAME then he has ever been interested in music as an art from. It's merely a means to an end for him. This should surprise no one that knows his history or has ever listened to him talk about KISS.
He is an excellent businessman, but a lousy artist.
VSS on servers has pretty much nothing to do with Vista as a desktop OS. It's using the same technology underneath, sure, but you can open a "Previous Versions" network share folder just as easily from XP as you can from Vista.
In what way is IE7 "vastly superior" to FF 2.0.0.8? The extreme lack of plugins? The inability to EASILY rearrange the toolbar how I want it? (Read: like how it was in IE6, file menu on top and everything!)
So how to I reroute a destination in Live Maps? In Google Maps I just click on the route at any point I choose and drag it to another street and the route is updated automatically. That is a killer feature, not a vanilla option. Also, how to I close all the sidebars and scratch pads in Live PERMANENTLY so I don't have to close them all every single time I go there?
I do use Live Maps for the Birds-Eye View, if the area I'm interested is covered by it. Other than that, Google is a clearly better at providing ease of use and non-cluttered interface.
That reminds me of a time I had a couple half dollars on me in elementary school. One of my classmates apparently had never seen one before, and (even knowing that it was a 50-cent piece) offered me 5 dollars for it. What does it say about me that I took him up on his offer?

Is that you, Randall L. Stephenson?

Did you frame that bill and hang it on your wall or at least get a picture of it?

Are you comparing a pre-paid phone with no data at all to a subscription-based phone with an unlimited data plan? Apples to oranges. :)

I think you need to Google "fox news the memo" and come back here once you have gained a real understanding of how Fox "News" works behind the scenes.

No, only 30 lives per person.
And that justifies the $100 price how exactly? Gimmick or not, it shouldn't cost $100.

Boy, that sure is comparable to free POP and IMAP support! I mean geez, what were we thinking? That's totally the same thing!
In what way is IE7 "vastly superior" to FF 2.0.0.8? The extreme lack of plugins? The inability to EASILY rearrange the toolbar how I want it? (Read: like how it was in IE6, file menu on top and everything!)
Seriously, are you COMPLETELY unaware of the history of Christianity? Geez!
> Just wait for IIS7. It will be to Apache what IE7 is to Firefox.
So IIS7 will be an attempt to copy the good features from the competition that is both too little and too late but will be forced on the world anyway?

As their servers can't even handle a slashdotting! How are they going to handle thousands of virtual worlds?
