I totally agree, I work in the k-12 education field (support staff, not a teacher). I see the crap they have to take every day from incorrigible kids to useless parents, yet it seems everyone wants to take pot shots at them. They take care of a precious commodity and should earn a decent wage.
where I work we just migrated all the workstations over to windows 7 on systems with dual core athlon 64 X2's with 2 or 3GB of ram, they work okay, but definitely aren't speedy. I can't imagine how slow those old P4 systems are.
We have 5.5 million people in the whole state, it's not going to look like L.A. with bumper to bumper traffic. Most people are at work by 8am which also cuts down on the number of cars on the roads.
I've noticed the same thing at work (the only place I need to use IE). Things that render almost instantly in FF or Chrome take much longer in IE 9 or 10, and some of our systems like kronos don't do well at all with IE.
yeah, 2-3 years seems right to me. I had an iPod that I wasn't able to update after about 2 years since ios thought the hardware was too old. We're on the 4th generation of iPods in a little less than 4 years. I don't think the 1st gen iPads can be updated to ios7.
I wish more people understood the issue as you do. I know quite a few people that are pissed that workers actually have a voice in their work conditions, pay, etc...
Agreed, some teachers use computers as electronic babysitters, but the good teachers keep the kids on task and don't let them wander onto game sites, youtube, etc....

a blaze orange helmet goes a long way as well toward being seen.
Idiots texting while driving seems to be the big thing these days.
They probably thought it was NASA they were cutting funding to.
When I first looked at that headline I thought it said "Grass Hopper", I must be losing my mind.
Don't they already throttle innovation?
I just got rid of my 16 year old Geo Prizm last year, it still ran well. If you take care of a car it will last many years.
well played, very well played.
Amen brother!

Gerrymandering, that's become pretty popular in Wisconsin lately.
The district I work at allows teachers to retire at 55. Most of them sub or find other jobs (often part time) after that, but it is possible.
yes, yes, yes.

I agree, shitty controls (battery life, form factor, etc..) don't make for a good gaming experience.

Geez, I have the top tier package for Dish and it's around $80 a month, what sort of options do you have?
I lost interest when I saw it requires an iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
The organization I work for has over 5,000 users and we use gmail. It has been a pretty foolproof system for us so far.
I guess these guys never heard of imaging a machine via ghost, fog, etc...
Very sad story, I hope they can find some way to give her a decent life.
Agreed, I remember being on the range and having a 5.56 shell casing go down the sleeve of my bdu shirt, hurt like hell.
