I have a jailbroken device which I use to install apps that Apple will not approve. I don't run any pirated apps.

If I have a jailbroken device and can't access the iTunes store the only way I can get new apps is to pirate them.

I've spent more money on apps for my iPhone than I've spent on software in the last 15 years - I really don't see how this will help them.

And lets not forget the demo scene.

God, i miss when computers were fun.

I've never run FF out of the box with no extensions for very long so I can't say if the browser itself is the trouble or poorly coded extensions but we all know that FF has become slower and more resource intensive with age. 3.5 is some improvement but it still is not the same as it used to be.

Collaborative calendaring? Ability to delegate rights for your calendar and inbox to other employees? (Admin assistants) Ability to book physical resources for your appointments?

These are all mission-critical features for most medium to large businesses and as far as I've seen no open source solution comes close offering all the features of Outlook/Exchange. I'm sure some enterprising young lad might be able to hobble all the technology together but that is entirely different from having 1 product that just does the job - a hobbled together solution isn't going to take the enterprise by storm.

Again, this is the stumbling block for Linux adoption in the enterprise. Word, Excel, Power Point interoperability means nothing without an Exchange replacement.

People underestimate how important Exchange is.

The argument is always how Office is the real lynchpin and that if only a compatible document suite like Google docs or OpenOffice got a foothold Microsoft would be crushed but Outlook/Exchange is the REAL barrier to entry.

I work at a call center. EVERY corporate employee who calls me is using Outlook except the 1% of poor souls stuck with Lotus Notes and Domino.

    Business relies on Outlook/Exchange.

Now, even if we discount ideas that we see in a lot of mysticism and in some interpretations of quantum theory about the observer's role in creating reality(this is slashdot, after all) - I think that two nuclear powers both run by small groups of people (please, lets not confuse the rulers of either the US or Iran with the people of the US or Iran) that have equally zany ideas about how destroying the planet being the in their best interest.

the difference is our leaders don't openly admit it. they gleefully continue on the path and in fact hasten it (see; the enviroment, nuclear weapons, domestic food policy, etc. I'd talk more but i'm late for dinner).

Fact is, it doesn't really matter what we day on here about it.

I've gotta agree with this assessment. What I find dangerous about gaming, RPG's in specific is how I personally have experianced displacing *MY* personal growth with my *character's* personal growth. Humans have a need for change and development and when you can satisfy that need from a character that you are associating with yourself rather than actually doing something to develop your own life.... I don't think that's such a good thing.

That being said, do with your lives whatever you see fit. It's none of my buisiness. I just personally have given up RPG's because of this realization.

Assuming that only 50% of the people who said they'd contribute sent their money in (As far as I could tell you weren't legally bound to sending them money for your "membership package", which of course included the 10 cent "Gold Shield Seal" sticker that was implicitly supposed to save your ass from getting a ticket. As a consequence, you do get put on the list of people they can call to guilt into donating next year, though. Those are the people the junkies would mostly call.) that's $45,900 a day. $16,753,500 a year. In 2 days they'd recoup their yearly charitable donations. We had I think, 5 offices nationwide. My office usually came in 3rd for sales per month (Once we came in first and got a keg party for it.) Let's hope that $30,000 number I heard thrown around was per office, at least.

Apparently this kind of functionality is not something people are asking for in droves. Few (if any) software media players (winamp, itunes) provide this functionality that I have found. The only thing I know of is a program for windows called Hyperion, which just looks at your directory structure and gives you a list of all your albums based on \\xxxxx.mp3

Unfortunately it has a lot of shortcomings (supports only .mp3, user interface very limited)and is no longer in development. Anyone else out there know of anything else that has this funcionality?
