    Or maybe we need a federal education program about what the terms broadband and baseband actually mean, so the general public are not so easily duped.

    Broadband has nothing to do with mbps - and unless they cut you off it's by definition unlimited. Caveat emptor.

    Jesus Christ zaivala, you do what everyone else does and get the drivers from HP's website.

    The discs HP give you are NOT the same thing as a Windows install disc. They are designed for a factory restore, and can't effectively be used if you are modifying the factory loadout. You KNOW this, and complaining is not going to change anything.

    Don't go projecting your frustration on people that are trying to help cause you don't like the answer. Suck it up and get your own Windows license, or get out of the Microsoft ecosystem if their practices irk you so much.

    Sounds like you keep re-installing the same crappy nag-enabled OEM software. Get a real copy of Windows and you'll be happy (assuming Windows is your thing that is).

    I'm well aware that nobody is being sued now. Limited amnesty is an implied threat. It's the carrot to the stick.

    On the other hand, you can't declare an amnesty unless you actually have the ability to prosecute or otherwise punish somehow. So this "amnesty" would appear to be a nonsense, hence my question.

    I'm a bit confused by this, maybe you can help me out. IIRC (and I googled it quickly so I think I do) the statute of limitations on civil copyright infringement is 3 years. Amnesty? That's mighty nice of him, it really is. But who does he think he can sue today, let alone in 2012?

    Well, one reason Apple would not be offering Flash support is that last time I bothered to check mobile Flash was still not available on any mobile device.

    Check again. Flash for mobiles was first released with the Nexus One. The REAL reason Apple does not want Flash is they would lose control. It would allow developers bypasses the App Store and target multi-platform.

    Slashdot aside, the rest of the consuming public may not even know that other App Stores exist.

    People keep saying this - but consumers have been buying Android phones at a faster than iPhones, and everyone agrees that trend isn't going to end soon.

    You can fetch the source from a git repository, compile it, flash it to your device and have a complete working OS stack. The majority of the software is OSI approved. How much more open do you want?

    I love Swype on my phone, but was surprised to find that it is almost totally useless on a tablet. You need to move your whole hand to hit every letter, and you are limited to one finger despite the fact that ten fingers fit on the home row.

    Huh? Lingua Franca has nothing to do with how many people speak it natively. With Alien Dalvik and now this development you will be able to write one Android app and have it run on all platforms. ('cept iOS maybe... unless you jailbreak).

    If iOS apps continue to only run on iOS, then it will be a parochial dialect no matter how many apps are written for it.

    LVM is supported by every major distro out of the box. And it actually WORKS, which is more then you can say for Drive Extender.

    This news surprises me. Last.fm has always been $3/month, with a very short free trial. I'm guessing it must have only been free in North America or something.

    Earlier this year they also cut a number of "channels", including the option to listen to "my collection". They offered no discount for the reduced services so I gave up my subscription. I got the distinct impression that this was under pressure from the usual RIAA types.

    I thought I'd check out your recommendation. Unfortunately, according to the android market at least, grooveshark requires $9 month for a "Groovshark Anywhere" subscription if you want to use it from your mobile, although it does have a free trial of unspecified length.

    I don't get the attitude that Gingerbread is somehow unsuited to tablets. The definitions of "tablet" vs "phone" are arbitrary and mostly dictated by marketing anyway. A couple of years ago we would have called a 4 inch device a tablet, and look where we are now.

    But to answer your question, Samsung at least are apparently planning on sticking with Android 2.X on 7 inch class devices and 3.X on the 10 inch class, and I have to say this seems like a good move. Having used the wife's Galaxy Tab fairly extensively, and having watched the demonstration videos of Honeycomb, I'd honestly recommend against upgrading to 3.0 if given the option. Honeycomb looks like it really requires a full 10 inch display before the UI gets out of your way, whereas the stock OS (albeit with DPI tweaks and an aftermarket launcher) is a great fit.

    If the shareholders don't like it they always have the option of selling their shares.

    That's never gonna happen. I agree that publishing their plan is probably not a wise move, but remember that Apple have to respect the shareholders wishes - not the other way around.
