There are already countless lawyers around the country who will accept a set price to fix traffic tickets, handle divorces and get the IRS off your back.
Concidering how the general ethics level is in that perticular community, and much like the theme running in your analogy... there would probably be lawyer getting the spammers off spam suits, rather then to help condemning them.
Well, it's not total bullshit. There is one case where the size of the desktop folder does affect system performance.
When you are running an active shield type anti-virus software, it may be set on default to scan on touch. Guess what folder is touched all over when window renders your desktop?
In this case, either move the big giant files else where or configure the anit-virus software to not do this would both work.
Having said that, I personelly can't stand having large files stuffed in the desktop directory (at least when I was using windows). I perfer to have all my data files seperated from the system partition and nicely tucked inside my home directory on a seperate partition where all the user data live.
And with the state department of education (ironically named KDE) very pro-Microsoft, VNC is out of the question.
Doesn't that same logic rule out Linux as well?
I would think that VNC or a variation of it running on Linux would solve the problem nicely with the support of multiple virtual desktop running on a single machine.
I remember a few years back, I mistakenly typed www.gamefaq.com for www.gamefaqs.com. I ended up looking at a deviant porn site that I sure as hell wouldn't want my kids to be looking at. When gamefaqs.com took over that domain, I was somewhat relieved.
I do believe there has to be some degree of control for things like this, but I don't trust the bureaucrats to get it right either.
It's not easy to just arbitarily decide which names are "innocent sounding" and thus can't be used for a porn site and which aren't, if it's even possible. IMHO, the control should be something that we can draw a clear and definitive distinction, such as moving all porn sites to a seperate first level domain.
From my personal experience, these MS sponsored/related workshops/courses, are more like perverted advertisements trying to pressure students into using MS products rathar then then actual informative educational sessions.
I had to take a couple MS Windows network administration courses back in colledge because they were requirement for the program. We had to memorize stupid phrases like "MS Windows network is the best choice because it's userfriendly, easy to set up, and secure" for the exams.... It just makes me sick to stomache.
Personally I'd use bash. The primary reasons I guess are it's resamblance to ksh, my previous perference, and the fact that it comes default with RH linux, which I am running here.
Besides command line history and editing, I perticularily like the tab search feature. It's saved me a lot of effort typing full paths.
He's reffering to a topic posted a few days ago here on/. about how the universe is finite, and warps around. so if you keep travelling towards a direction far enough, you end up where you started.
A while ago my organization had this setting: a bunch of tiny little boxes that are designed to run only X, and have everything run on the power horse servers.
This centralized computing model saved some HP-UX licenses. It later became obsolete when we started adapting linux.
anothe roption I would probably look into is Xvnc. (Real VNC) Unlike it's Windows counter part, it allows you to set up multiple independent desktops.
The conventional materials for building houses, Such as plywood, and cheap, pressed wood posts are not meant to last for too long even with resonable maintainance.
I guess if you want it to really last, look into better quality materials such as steal beams, concret, marbel, high quality wood, graphite, etc.. It will cost a lot more, but thousands of eyars from now it might be still standing. =)
All black market activities fund terrorism in one way or another. That is how the black market works. Alcohol sales funded terrorism in the US during prohibition. Cocaine, stolen art, fake Levi jeans, ivory, all contribute to terrorism.
Heh... if that's true, I wonder how the terroists collects tax from people making pirated CDR's or "niki" sneakers in the taiwanese night market.
Sometimes the money just goes to some greedy merchants.
A wedding ring does not neccessarily have to be expansive. IMHO, that's just shallow.
I actually was able to get in agreement with my wife that a diamond ring is just a waste of money. We ended up getting a pair of plain silver rings (> $20cdn each) and a Playstation 2. Atleast we got more fun out of the money.
I have a big collection of manuals, literatures, and lyrics in text format. Most of the time, I find any of my perferd text editor would allow me view without much problem. gvim, xemacs, UltraEdit32, even notepad would let you change font, set wrapping, get the line number (for bookmarking).. just take your pick.
Sometimes when I find plain text not enough for the perticular item I am reading, I just run it through some scripts to turn it into HTML or postcript so I can read it in my favorite browser/viewer.
For myself, atleast, I find this is already more then enough for my day-to-day reading.
But that does rather rely on you being able to SSH tunnel out - frankly rather abvious at the firewall if you are the only one doing it.
That might be the case somewhere else, but here our department ssh, telnet, and ftp are use for run of the mill day to day operations. We send and grab data from external hosts. So a SSH tunnel connected consistently to a specific shaw cable IP usually wouldn't attract much attention.
IMO the problems with comference calls are most often the speaker phones. Some people will make everyone he calls suffer just to save 20 bucks on a phone.
Also, hentai is the sickest thing around. Seriously, what kind of warped people think up tentacle rape porn, and then proceed to actually DRAW it, frame by frame?
What kind of people dream up dripping candel wax on tied up people? or using toturing devices in love making? What kind of people would think of using the rectum for sex? What kind of people would then go and draw them cell by cell / page by page?
Different people from different culture may get off from differnt things. What one finds as the norm may be seen as sickening by someone with a different prespective. Granted, some fantasies may be more disturbing then others, but I don't have a problem with people expressing themselves through drawing, sculpturing or other forms creation.
Having said that, the term "hen tai", literally "changed behavior", translats to "pervert/perverted/perversion". That should hint you off what those would contain.
At the first quick glance, I though the title read "Microsoft Tested in Orbit"... Now there's a frightening thought, especially after what happened to the shuttle; Gives BSOD a whole new meaning -_-|||

...then it'll finally own the only decent way to navigate microsoft's own website
After MS had their way with it, it won't be decent any more.
but how does it handle stereo?
Well, we are using dual-display setup here in our office...
you might be able to watercool the PSU and take out the fan. But that would be an insane waste of time and money, not to mention the risk.
Speaking of risk... Have you though about what fun things water can do in a 120V power supply in a metal enclosure that's attached to the metal case?

How myopic of you to think that just because she can't "get" e-mail she'd want to stop living.
In other news:
An e-mail server outage cause numerous cases of suicide.
Try this article. Since I can't really read simplified Chinese I am having a hard time reading through it. -_-|||

No man is an island. No company is an island...well, maybe Microsoft, but that's it.
um... actually, with $40 billion on hand, MS is more like a small nation.

No other group or organization has ever been this greedy
I don't know... I can think of quiet a few. A couple other big names come to mind.
I sometimes do visit "questionable" sites from work. When I am doing that, I just SSH tunnel home and proxy from there.
Ever been on a conference call?
