maybe it's because Apple Records (records? what the fug is a record?)

It's short for "recording." A recording is the product of a "recording studio," where artists go to sing and play instruments. The sound is captured by a "recording engineer." The "recording" is then distributed to the public by various means (mp3, CD, radio).

Lets put it this way, humans are not going to ever loose their pinky finger if modern society goes on the way it is.

No, but the bulk of the species is likely to die out, either from pollution-triggered environmental disasters, or from a nuclear war. The characteristics of homo sapiens that have worked so well for us (tool-making, aggression, short-range planning), have suddenly become negative in this new environment of "the planet is full and your latest tools can trigger a mass extinction."

In a theoretical new American Revolution, there would certainly be a number of turncoat Colonels in the National Guard, so the rebel forces would have access to a level of military hardware similar to that available to the Mujahadeen.

In addition, there would be plenty of foreign aid; if the revolution started today, Iran and North Korea would both be delighted to provide aid to the rebels. If the fighting dragged on for several years, as with the first American Revolution, one of the European powers might join the other side, just as happened in the 18th Century.

This kind of reasoning assumes that the revolution had justification; i.e., that a new Declaration of Independence could be written, with a legitimate set of grievances. I don't believe anyone could write that document yet.
