Everyone here seems to be defending Limewire, when the fact remains that although I sincerely doubt they encourage copywrite infringement, they certainly do facilitate it. I feel that I can confidently say that 99% of Limewires usage is to distribute copy-written material. That said, is everyone defending it on principle -- that principle being a sincere dislike for the RIAA -- or is it just fun to play ignorant?
"What?!?! Downloading copy-written material, who the hell does that on Limewire!? Certainly not me!"
I'll admitt, I'm not innocent, but I wont play dumb either.
Ads in place of a subscription make sense, but how do you justify ads for something with an exact value? When you see enough ads to have payed the price of the OS do they go away? I don't understand.
I've read this article, or similar probably a good dozen times. Why is this such a popular discussion? Is there some sort of stigma attached to a male roleplaying a female character that I'm unaware of? I've been playing MMO's for over five years, and in all of my experience I've never had a big-chested mage ask me for free items on the premise that they're female. It's always the female avatars going, "sup, wanna hunt?" and you immediately know their gender. Alternatively, "ekek ^^; brb my sis wants on the pc", you know it's female. There's really know question involved.
Besides, who the hell cares?
It's a stupid stupid stupid thing to "research" in my oppinion.
Feel free to tell me I'm wrong.

That's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure that'd be possible with the 2D nature of the display. Perhaps I'm confused, but this only produces a surface image, it doesn't produce a 3D model with the water.
I wouldn't give up on it yet, they just released it. People say the same thing about all of their services when they first release them, but over time through their extended "beta" periods, they just get better and better. They're just laying the groundwork, I bet they have some cool stuff planned. And even if they don't, this service still looks valuable to small projects.
I'm heading off to college this fall and I may use this as sort of a means of portfolio'ing all the code I write during class, who knows.
It's been said before, and even on the original article I read about this, but the applications are mostly for places like Disneyland and Casinos. Couple this with a light-show and a cool fountain, you get the idea. It's purely artistic.
Hehe, you must not have had good followers! I remember taking a couple month break and came back with a bunch of allegiance experience and leveled three times. Nothing like seeing the levelup animation as you're logging in.:]
Maybe... but there's a difference. That difference is that the items cached were already in violation of copy right law, most likely. Interesting though... and doesn't archive.org archive files? I know they've archived several small programs I've written that were linked on my site at one point in time.
What did Google do when told by the record companies to take certain sites off of their search. If I remember correctly they did just that... and then linked the written-request also, which named all of the sites they wanted removed from their search engine. It'll be amusing to watch how this all plays out.
I personally think that the instancing in WoW is done at just the perfect amount. Only the large-scale dungeons are instanced which is a great way to prevent boss-stealing. However, the rest of the world is not instanced so as mentioned before you can run into anybody just about anywhere.
On the other hand, in City of Heroes beta when I played EVERYTHING was instanced to a degree and it really lost the feel of really being a part of the world because of it.
The last extreme is Asheron's Call where nothing was instanced. This provided endless hours of entertainment for me sitting at portal spawns camping 'noobs' with my friends but I guess that's not for everybody.:] Darktide FTW?
To be honest I thin this world could use a good "intergalactic war". At worse we all die. At best the World unites and countries gain a sense of brotherhood. Maybe I'm naive but I'd like to think humanity would put aside its differences if there was ever a threat to itself... other than itself.

For when Limewire loses its case, because it will.
I suppose I wasn't considering them continously updating the OS. Good point.

Someone want to let me in on the joke? :)

Modded informative, haha.
Not to go in circles with it, but by repetitive music you mean techno, right?

Yeah, those jerks, how dare they use the letter 'p'!

That game in and of itself makes me cry. Humanity disgusts me.
By the way, what's a good place to buy me some fake titties?

Makes me question myspace, you'd think they have people watching for these sorts of attacks. And who's to say this isn't the first time it's happened?
Interesting read, would mod you up if I had points.
(Hah, my image verification word was "Burden". Irony.)
wuldn't it be ironik if no1 respondid?
"...teenage promiscuity..."
Whoa whoa whoa... this is a problem?
They didn't hand over the search records the first time. Why are you inclined to believe they will hand over your records? They have no incentive.

Bah who am I kidding.
See now THATS sexy. Thanks for sharing! :) I can see using that on a table or maybe even just in my lap.
Neat.
