Not only that, but I daresay there is no "correct" theory. Genius after genius creates a model that describes an ever increasingly complex universe, and then a new odd discovery throws a monkey wrench into the theory. The theory isn't really wrong, it's just no longer all-encompassing like we previously thought.
That said, sometimes a theory can be just plain wrong.
The really unfortunate thing is that it would take a law to accomplish this, even though it really shouldn't. I think, personally, it'd be a whole lot better if we didn't have to make a law to get the litigious bastards out of our society, but that will never happen. And the problem with laws is that there always seems to be a way to get around them (at least with laws like this would probably end up being), so then there'd have to be legislation to patch it up. It's like having a boat full of holes, the crew is running around plugging them up as fast as they can and not steering where the ship is going. Oi, that was a long way of saying me too, now wasn't it.
Nah...you'll only HAVE to swing one way. Propogate the virus to another of the opposite sex and..poof...you have a pair of people who can mate with most any person in the world and spread the virus.
You only seem to be addressing one of the issues of parallelism. There's also the problem of access lockout. If one card is manipulating said memory, how do you address the issue if the other card needs access to it, and then do you allow it to it before or after the other card starts manipulating it? These are questions that have been plagueing parallel structures of all kinds for years, be it parallel processing, multiple threads, or multiple video cards.
That's the problem with being in tech-support. We can always breath new life into old hardware, there-by not giving us the excuse to ask for new hardware.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I must say that my expectations aren't very high, considering, from the trailer, they managed to throw Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankensteing into the same 2 hour movie. That said, it looks like it could be so bad that it may be hilarious for it. Is it amazingly crap in the hilariously crappy crap way, or is it amazingly crap in the "it's been fifteen minutes and I want to gouge my eyes out because this is such an utter waste of time and resources" type crap??
Thanks for the insight. You bring up some good points, rather than making me feel like a complete idiot (as opposed to the other reply made to my post). Personally I prefer carpe noche, but to each their own:).
I think the reason that we get attached to the personality of a complex system is that it does seem to have some sort of personality. It starts to act out of, seemingly, feelings if the system is too complicated for us as people to figure out the exact reason something is occuring. Take a computer for example: the combination of the hardware, operation system, other software, and the order in which things are done can greatly affect the outcome of how a machine acts. Each computer seems to have a personality because of it (sometimes layed back, sometimes bitchy, etc). Consequently I try and use that personality to name the computer system.
I've never understood how athiests could view life as more important than --insert random religion here--s. If we just die...and we're poof, gone, then we wouldn't know we were gone, we would be cease to exist, so would we have really lost anything?? We wouldn't be aware of it's loss because we wouldn't exist. Just a thought that's been bugging me for a while, maybe somebody can explain from their personal opinions.
I wish I had mod points...I'd give 'em to you. Openmindedness is paramount. As a Christian myself, what other people's beliefs are really don't concern me, as long as they don't insist on forcing them down my throat. Ironically that's what's wrong with a lot of the evangelical movements out there, lots of cramming down throats. Same thing with some of the posts here on slashdot, lots of flamebait.
Well, let's see, in my Multimedia Development course I'm working on creating a 2-3 minute complex MAYA animated short. Uncompressed, 400 frames takes up about 500MB of space. Try fitting that through your dial-up and then well talk.
If you were my parental unit and I ever found out that you had broadcast in a public forum the size of my sex organ, I would probably start my teen angst REALLY early.
Yeah, I almost feel that the USPS stays running because of junk...I fear for how much a legit letter would cost to send if the USPS didn't have the money from credit card applications.

Um...evidentally amateurs aren't the only ones that do this. Try playing Descent on anything pentium II or faster. My experience is that the, normally, slight up and down motion of the ship becomes an uncontrollable jitter making the game unplayable because it looks like it's on crack.
I do agree that it is hard to remember gobs of passwords, but at the university that I work at most people can't remember their passwords when I switch out their old computer for a new one. It makes my life a real joy because they don't know how the heck to get into their email/other application. Thank goodness for whatever little utility I've got that looks behind the astrisks...makes my life just a little easier. I could get the help desk to reset it, but that means that I have to have the client do it because they require a social security number.

I could also see them lobbying to get a law passed severely restricting encryption technologies for non-corporate use.
Peanut butter works well. Oh, and running it under plain old hold water helps to smooth some of the more minor ones out too.

Personally I want to put your last sentence onto a shirt...I'd wear that with pride!!

I wish I could find a girl that liked "those science show thingies".
Who the heck modded this as insightful??

Not only is it very rules based, it is also a very good movie with a very good message (the little things matter infinatelly).

Why I'm responding to AC Flamebait, I'll never know...but that joke falls flat on it's face because most japanese words end in a vowel.

No iPine yet, but you do see them touting that OSX is a BSD. Course that's not really a a bad thing :-).
