Actually copyright education is exactly what the people need. People need to understand why a copyright exists, why there are time limits, fair usse, and what other forms of IP protection exist. If people were more educated and understood the history then we wouldn't be facing the kind of bullshit that we are today.

Health Benefits!? Seriously! Has society dropped that low. Whatever happened to PE class and casual sporting. Doctors should be to blame too for not telling their patients to lose weight miraculously solving many health problems without a pill.

    Less coddling more ass kicking!

  8. Re:More like where do you draw the line? on What Should People Understand About Computers? · · Score: 5, Insightful

It seems to me that there aren't very many good books out there that explain to the layman what is really going on with computers...

My ancestors (parents and grandparents) are a naturally inquisitive people. Any attempt to teach them things about computers may only leave them more confused and full of questions.

Maybe i'm a cynic but I believe that most people don't care about computers for the same reason they don't care about anything else. The average layperson isn't curious at all! Slashdot is full of nerds. We read about nanobots, particle physics, and GPL drafts in our spare time. Besides, when's the last time an average person has read a book? (bonus points for non-fiction) Inquisitive people, like you or I, are the type of people that will read a wikipedia page and then read all the connecting pages until a good hour has been spent. Curious people have enough self-motivation to do their own research and will do so from multiple sources.

  9. IANAP but... on Dark Energy May Be Changing · · Score: 4, Insightful

According to new research the strength of dark energy may be very different now than it was when the universe was young.

Maybe its just the engineer in me, but isn't it possible that we're just observing some other unknown effect. Something so complicated and exotic doesn't feel right. When it comes down to the math we juggle equations around, fit curves, and re-evaluate until the math yields a good approximation. Math juggling is one thing but I don't think there's a strong case for creating a physical entity for it.

I know all were gonna do is have a little debate, maybe draft something up and have our prime minister chicken out after the people give some feedback. How the fuck are we supposed to get anything done with a mentality like that? Oh well... I suppose we'll never be number 1. We just don't have the balls for it!

  15. /. reviews work. on Castlevania Leads DS Charge · · Score: 1

Funny thing... these reviews actually work. It was the mario kart review that got me looking into the DS. I thought it was a gimmicky tacky child's toy and never really bothered to read about it or check what it was all about. I've always been a fan of nintendo and gameplay over graphics. So anyways, started looking into the DS and mariokart and started getting interrested. For example, i didn't know of the wireless online play. The fact that its free is quite simply amazing. Plus there seems to be quite a few interresting games. The current games are quite nice, but there also seems to be a whole host of new ones around the corner too. I'm actually thinking about getting one. The price is right.
