Exactly. Support means they will *help* you with any problems you may have and make it work for you(this rarely actually happens, but that's the theory). Not supported means the company isn't responsible for and won't help you with your problems, not that there actually are any problems.

Completely OT, but you should be able to emulate 486-level speeds with a gen2 iBook(white G3) or better. Even a 500Mhz PowerPC gets about 486-level performance in Bochs. And if 486es were cutting-edge, you shouldn't even need that much.

1GB...all you need that much for is gaming. With RAM prices going up I suggest 512MB for most users...that's plenty enough to run 2 instances of Word, a couple of browsers, and Excel or PowerPoint at the same time. Which is all most users need.

Yes...but...I have NEVER had a system die. Right now, I have a 2 year old Dell(I was too stupid to custom-build), a 6 month old custom system, and a 7 year old custom K6-2 system. I have had two parts fail. EVER.
    1)The old 13GB drive in the K6-2
2)The Radeon 9800 in the new system, which was replaced under warranty.
Oh, and I've bought bad RAM but never have had any that worked to start with fail.

Of course opensource is going to be the only way to go. One engine for each genere except sports is the way to go. What makes a game fun? Not exactly the engine-take FPS for example. You jump, you shoot, you drive. Once your engine does that with some good graphics, it's done. Then comes CONTENT. Content is what makes a game. Within 10 years, I see DirectX/etc. as becoming an engine, not just a base platform. Because the engine is basically done now. Sports is the only exception really. Because it is team-base and you need to see+control a whole team, the control STILL needs refinement. They're almost there, but not quite.

I have talked to many people who don't want one because they are finacially savvy, and don't want to buy a system that will be obselete in a year with a display that is still worth $650 bolted on to it.
