  1. These have been out before the iPod! Geez. on More iPod Killers Introduced for the Holiday · · Score: 1

Go to Best Buy and look for a CD Walkman .. 90% of them all support playing MP3 files off burned CDs .. They generally run around $40 each. They've been around forever.

  2. This isn't competition! Look at the players! on More iPod Killers Introduced for the Holiday · · Score: 1

Look at all four of those articles! They're listing players that have 512MB .. Or players that only support ATRAC format! Or players that cost $1200 and plated in gold?? Every single one of those listed players fails miserably in one way or another; There are NO killers listed in that entire mess.

There are so many ways they can run checks against a system being modded it isn't funny.

  8. You're just guessing... on PSP Developer Interview · · Score: 1

If I were a betting man, I would put playing movies as EASIER on the battery than rendering thousands of polygons and processing AI. Sure, the motor to spin the disc for movies uses some juice, but not nearly as much as processing 3D games and sound. It's also been said in other articles that they were telling developers to use the least amount of 3D rendering as possible to conserve battery life. You know something is screwed up when they're not wanting people to use the best the system has to offer. Not only that, but the emulator kits they sent to devs has an actual battery life emulator built-in so they can see how much life their game is sucking out of the PSP and can then DOWNGRADE their game to save some juice and not crap out.

  9. How are laptops going to use cartridge based discs on Gizmodo Declares Blu-Ray Winner · · Score: 1

It's an honest question. If you've noticed, laptops these days have become thin enough to the point where they're already as wide as these carts that the Blu-Ray discs sit in .. I cant imagine a format that requires the disc to sit in a cart to be used these days when everything depends on size.

  14. Why? Because my music is already in MP3 format. on Big Demand for Digital Music Players · · Score: 1
I'd love to check out Sonys new players - They have a ton of space, they're slightly larger than a credit card, last 30 hours, and can fit my entire MP3 music collection it.

Did you catch that? I already have everything ripped to MP3. Everyone I know has their music in MP3 format. I bought a RIO Karma and decided to convert everything to Ogg Vorbis, and it was a NIGHTMARE - Even when it was all batched. Then my Karma broke into pieces, and I went back to my IPod. I'm glad I kept my MP3s - They sound good enough for any of these players. Sure, if I want to stream these at home, I may invest in a 200GB drive and rip them into FLAC format - But till then, I cant distinguish the difference of a properly ripped song using LAME encoded MP3s while driving in my car with the windows down, or biking through the woods, or jogging down the road.

MP3 has been defined as the standard by all of us. Companies need to realise this or just stay out of the market and miss out on a great cash flow. This proprietary DRM crap needs to go away - forever.

  15. I hate to be so blunt... but... on George Lucas Speaks on Trilogy Changes · · Score: 1
Why aren't these interviewers asking the real questions?

Like, "How do you feel about the Star Wars universe becoming a total corporate playtoy?" and "What do you say to the majority of your fans who all think you turned the Mona Lisa into a Nike logo?" and "How does it feel to be the things you've always hated to become, and how does it feel that all your one time fans now hate you for it as well?"

Reading that article he just came off so... selfish.. so corporate.. so controlling. He was completely the opposite when he made those movies - They were a tribute to directors who could work outside of controlling figureheads. My analogy of the Mona Lisa were more than just a perfect movie, but the perfect way to MAKE the movie. He perfected every single area of it, from refusing to give control to FOX, to getting his own personal loans for the completion. And now... Ugh.

Though, i'll admit that something got on my XP machine the other week and replaced my winsock.dll causing my network access to not work except bringing in popups - Totally disabling my machine.. Nothing out there found it..I had to get a WinsockXP reinstaller from Microsoft that seemed to fix it for now.

  18. But how GOOD is Zap2It guide data? on Step By Step: Building a MythTV PVR for $635 · · Score: 1
I haven't seen anyone explain how good the free Zap2It guide data that these use is. Does it provide 2 weeks of data to look ahead to, that you can search? Full reviews? Full descriptions, ratings, and other info that Tivo provides? And is it really "free" or do you need to subscribe to spam or anything to receive it? I know a lot of people used Guide+ before Zap2It, and that guide data was *terrible* and often half the lineups and shows were entirely WRONG. How accurate is Zap2It when a station changes slots, or a show is shuffled, will the MythTV get the info from Zap2It and realign itself for the new shows?

People complain about the Tivo subscription, but if Zap2It can't do all of these, every single one, then the whole MythTV project is useless for a PVR to me. If it can, then it looks like we're headed in the right direction and I look forward to a HDTV capture version!

I prefer having just the discs themselves, and be able to store them in neat, small booklets when I travel. Also, the DVD Consortium does not back Sonys blu-ray, they are backing HD DVD. Blu-Ray is the DIVX, Betamax, etc of the DVD generation. Evil.

  25. Agree, this looks like a PSP ripoff. on What A Portable Media Center Might Look Like · · Score: 1

The PSP is being marketed as a multimedia device anyways. I don't see how anyone can get all excited over this mock up board and not already know about the PSP which will be out early next year. As far as no hard drive, dont count that out - Sony is planning on releasing many add-ons and types of the PSP for various needs. It does also have the mini discs as well for movies and such that will start coming bundled with Sonys DVD movies. I am unsure if there will ever be writers for this for the public, but if there were, it would be pretty slick. It also has true 16:9 widescreen.
