Equal rights for men! No more female oppression! Say no the females pulling the strings! Rise, my brethren! Revolt against our oppressors! It is our calling! What's next? Special cars for women, too!?
( damned overuse of underline and italics hurts the eyes! ).. and at first glance it does appear rather broad. Can't really go into detail, at least not without suffering serious eye injuries, but I think those people may be on to something, considering the bill just about kills any form of advertisement, including the few kinds of advertisement which we do not mind. Much... ( Google's AdSense anyone? )
With the basic functionality up and running, you can start to play around with expansion options. My first project was to give the frame a wireless connection so I could transfer new pictures without taking it off the wall.
roll 1d6 to see if Barbie gets a good parking space at the mall
Okay, driving skills proficiency check! Roll 1d20 and... Whatever, character is female and female characters and driving proficiencies are mutually exclusive. The light post ( +1, +5 versus Lexus ) rolls a natural 20 and has a critical hit on the engine! Barbie's car ( Level 3, Chaotic Neutral Lexus SUV, 25 HP ) is dead...
People who bother to say something to other people are trying to reach out to other people. Obviously you wanted people on the internet to read what you wrote otherwise you wouldn't have written it and submitted it to./.
However, when someone you don't know at all walks up to you and asks the time, do you think he wants to reach out and get to know you? Of course not, that person wants information, the current time. If some other guy asks on the internet to explain the craze and general idea behind social networks to him, is he trying to become your best buddy? No, all that that person wanted is information, perhaps a discussion that will benefit the people involved.
Same thing when I post something as additional information. I don't intend to make friends on here with that, I just want to share my views and possibly experiences with other who might or might not find what I wrote useful or not. Basically, I'm here for the exchange of information, news and views. Not to make friends.
... the latest craze about social networks like Orkut or Friendster? I'm indifferent to the internet or the people on the internet so I highly doubt social networks on the net will ever be even slightly interesting for me, personally. But I really don't see what's worth the fuss about them, because they aren't exactly incorporating ground-breaking technologies, stunning visualizations nor original and efficient business plans. So while I don't doubt the fact these "social networks" are fun for those participating, I don't actually see anything about them that's worthy of a front page post on Slashdot...
Maybe a nice new topic on Slashdot called "The Internet Society" with stuff like *logs, social networks and everything else regarding the social aspects of the internet?
Nottingham/Tuebingen - March 4, 2004 - Linux Game Publishing and e.p.i.c. interactive today announce a cooperation to bring award winning RTS game Northland to the Linux platform. RTS game Northland, originally developed by Funactics Software from germany, was ported by e.p.i.c. interactive and will be available to Linux retailers from Linux Game Publishing soon. The Linuxversion of the game is in beta stages now and a demoversion will be available prior to the release of Northland. Northland can be preordered now .
Northland, which only recently has been published for the PC, tells the story of Bjarni the Viking. The story begins where the plot of "Cultures 2 - The Gates of Asgard" ended. After perilous adventures our four heroes defeated the Midgard serpent and thus saved the world. A great celebration began and everyone was happy and content. But only a very short time later the peace was disturbed by a call for help from their friend Hatschi. Hatschi's homeland was plagued by mysterious monstrous serpent creatures, which spread chaos and destruction through the country. Without hesitation Bjarni and Crya hurried to help him and stumbled right into a new adventure, in which the sly god Loki will play an important role...
Northland features: * Stand-alone Adventure Strategy game. * Single player campaign with 8 missions including several sub missions. * The exciting plots tell the story of Viking God Loki who tried to take revenge on Godfather Odin for his banishment from Asgard to Earth. For that he abuses our four human heroes with his intrigues and traps. * 8 additional free single player missions (non campaign). * 3 difficulty levels to make the game fun for everybody from beginners to experts. * Special effects like weather effects, fog, ghost units etc. * Based on the enhanced technology of "Cultures 2 - The Gates of Asgard"; enhanced AI.
System requirements: PC@800 Mhz or better, 128 MByte RAM, graphics board with 16 MByte RAM, CD drive, Linux kernel 2.3 or better.

Makes up for my lousy sysadmin skills... Instead of actually fixing something, I'll just run up to the guy and yell "DO NOT TOUCH THAT!!!" if he even thinks about doing something silly, often driving my mom insane. My mom on the other hand is scared of computers and I've taught her that as soon as she doesn't understand something, she's got to close it. ( "Yes mom, the little cross on the top right of that little doodad..." )

Hmmm, I thought Unreal Tournament 2003 & 2004 came with a native Linux version on CD? And so did Uplink ( great game! ) if I remember correctly. Coupled with NWN, this gives you some quality FPS, quality RPG and quality uhm... something......whatever kind of game Uplink really is...
OSAMA BIN LADEN wants to MURDER the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, a certain chap named GEORGE W BUSH by hitting him repeatedly over the head with a ROCKET PROPELLED GRENADE LAUNCHER shaped sausage while dreaming of using TACTICAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS and drive his fave Type-R sport ZSU-23 SHILKA with BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL and NUCLEAR AAA rounds.
There, Eris knows wether US intelligence is tracking this or not but if they are, this is sure to mess up someone's day, hehehe... Ooo, look at that pretty black helicopter!
Nothing particulary attractive? I dare to disagree. I am not an astrophysicist but the moon would make a lovely observatory. No atmosphere to distort the image, plenty of space to build whatever the hell you want which includes arrays of telescopes and the dark side is conveniently pointed away from the sun. The light side of the sun would make a good place to put up a few solar array farms to produce quite ludicrous amounts of energy because the light side is always aimed at the sun. ( surprisingly! )
Not to mention the fact that it's simply easier to construct stuff on the moon and if you keep the living areas on the dark side, you will also end up quite a bit cheaper because you simply don't need much radiation shielding. As for spaceship construction and military usage, I don't envision the moon as something worth allot that way. It's possible though. But the moon sure has potential for energy gathering, science, storage and disposal. ( Put mass driver on moon, put nuclear waste in mass driver, aim mass driver at the Sun, launch waste. )
Acer 1700 series laptops are HUGE. And heavy. And they sell like hot cakes. Not to mention the fact we had at least 3 returned to Acer who broke down before we even sold them... Seriously, they make a good alternative to people who want a computer for home use but who don't want any kind of case. After they done with it, they just cram it in some drawer and forget about it, leaving plenty of desk space.
Sod the cartridges. They are cheap and easy to manufacture. The ink itself though, is expensive. A while ago I had to undergo so HP presentations for retailers ( Think of a peptalk... I did leave with a rocking HP mug btw:) ) and part of the whole talk included as to why the prices on all equipment is to be considered decent, despite the public's idea of ink being ridiculously expensive. The reasons given were vague, partly marketing speak, partly due to the fact we had a shipment arriving at the same time as the presentation so I couldn't be there all the time, but it basically boiled down to the following:
Ink prices are relatively high because printer prices are relatively low.
Ink technology is more advanced then you'd believe.
Newer HP printers are said to be more efficient with ink. ( PhotoRET IV )
Ink cartridges ( from HP themselves, at least ) are new, no refills at all.
Continuous research into higher grade ink also adds up to the price.
Still though, fact remains that inkjet printers are hideously expensive. But then again, last time I worked in the store the new Laserjets ( 1100 and 1110 ) from HP were rolling in. Compact, fast, efficient, relatively cheap... They seem to become a very good alternative to people interested in volume printing.
... I don't get this. Okay, let's accept the fact that this person once made a few popular arcade games. Check. That was before my time so I'll just have to trust Salon.com on this and whoever else on here thinks the same. Fair enough, so 25 years later he's still running around and respected as the technological father of some of the most ancient yet best arcade games. Okay then!
Then we end up in the present. While his previous work is worthy of respect, for sure, I think all that respect has been completely shattered by this interview. Read the paragraphs about his latest game called "Target: Terror". First of all, it just screams out that he just plans to ride along the wave and hype created by 9/11. I can imagine someone wanting to make a game about the US kicking some terrorist ass. I suppose that's being patriotic and that's what you US people supposedly revel in. Fine with me so far. However, slapping a "KILL TERRORISTS FOR 9/11!" sticking on a game and adding a turban to all in-game badguys with plenty of 9/11 referrences so it can ride the hype to kill anything terrorist is just... Wrong. What's wrong with making a game without terrorist referrences, hmm? Why not a sect trying to bomb the GG Bridge? Or maybe some nice juicy conspiracy? Hell, maybe the Canadians would like to see San Franciso bridgeless for some obscure reason but for the love of Eris, keep the terrorist hype out of it. Please.
Second, he berates games like GTA for being amoral. This coming from the same guy who manages to quote himself to the press saying "You know what? Do you have a problem defending your country? Maybe you need a new country." and who also scores another hype point for mentioning Columbine. Damn. So, let me get this straight, it is bad for games to be violent, it is bad for games to contain anything indecent like drug abuse, prostitution, gambling and all that. But as soon as it involves killing terrorists and defending the US, it is okay. Uh huh. Turns out one of his previous games used to ride along with the current US public enemy number one. At least he's consistent about poor subject choice.
Seriously, what is wrong with this person? Right now I do not care wether he's to be respected for what he did in the past. What he said in the present reeks of overhyping, bad decisions, double standards and overzealous patriotism and to me, the present matters more then the past.
The Debian Installer can install Slackware then?
