Whoa, hold on there. If I recall correctly, that makes a nice big fat copy of the entire HD. INCLUDING EMPTY SPACE. No use backing up all those zeros, right? What's needed is a nice simple system like Norton Ghost. While people dislike Symantec's copy protection system and Ghost isn't perfect, it's rather nice and easy to use. Maybe some kind of system that would boot from CD/USB pendrive ( GET RID OF THOSE GODDAMN DISKETTES ALREADY!!! ) and back up to/from a file, compressed file, drive, partition, FTP server, TCP/IP tunnel, multicast source, CD/DVD(+/-)R(W) drive, you name it.
If under 185 mb, we can cram it on one of those nice mini CDs as well, making it nice and tiny ( and hell on slot-in drive owners, hehe... That includes me...:( )
Asus Geforce 4: Fan broke down after 4 months or so, emitting nasty screeching noises.
Went back to the store and got a nice new fresh one, this time WITH tv-out at no extra charge, hehehe:) Still though, i thought Asus would be above using cheapotech fans?
Get rid of the feds, though. I don't really have a problem with the feds so I don't intend on killing any of them when I throw a bunch of phosphor and shrapnel grenades into the convention center, before storming in with a flamethrower.
I think "mildly warm water" would be more appropriate here. I don't recall this Anti-Trust thing being anything more then laughable and a symbolic victory, at best, anyways.
Looks like there will be a new edition to "Slashdotted" in the Jargon File, containing today's server logs just before the server undergoes complete and utter disintergration. Yay!
I sure hope all those bits that suddenly function as shrapnel don't cause dents in my HD's platters. I'm not quite sure I would enjoy having my HD flakked to kingdom-come...
Does anyone remember zip disks? Marvellous little things; decent storage capacity, decent access times, not too big size wise... Yet they failed. Badly. Why? First of all, the price: There is no justification for buying a 150 USD zip drive with 10 USD disks when you can get a 50 USD CD burner with 25 CDs for 10 USD. Also, there was this whole deal about Iomega being really anal with the zip drive specs ( Which in turn caused high prices which I mentioned before because there simply is NO competition. ) and the basic lack of Windows support for zip disks.
Let's hope this doesn't happen to these MO drives, that'd be a shame... That said, when the hell will we be rid of diskettes?
Seriously! All that beer didn't get rerouted through an adress in the Netherlands, I have not aquired a large cooled warehouze recently nor did I mess up their patch by screwing the boss' secretary for her login details. That said, anyone want a free beer?

Is Bluetooth Dead?

I agree with mccalli here, that bluetooth is indeed just taking off. Over time we've sold ( we being a small computer store that accepts interns, don't ask please. ) various bluetooth devices for mainly several purposes, last but not least being file transfers between mobile phones and computers. There have also been many questions ( and thus much interest ) concerning other short range networking options, such as wireless GPS receivers, easy laptop mobile phone integration ( many phones still lack bluetooth and bluetooth itself is only vaguely known ) and various other things.
Sadly, all of this is being hampered by hardware manufacturers, both phone hardware as well as computer hardware; most phones do NOT have bluetooth yet, computer manufacturers don't even consider making bluetooth a standard option on motherboard and in computer cases. As far as I know, most bluetooth communication relies on external USB dongles, a bad solution AT BEST. Why not hide a small antenna behind the plastic covering? Or even better, make it possible to put an antenna there, with a standard size and connectors. Let people choose wether they want built in bluetooth or not.
Besides, bluetooth has some excellent yet unexplored capabilities, when combined with other new stuff. How about a small docking unit for USB pen drives that gives bluetooth support? That way you can exchange files between your phone/pda/laptop/battleship without even bothering to take the pen drive out of your pocket. Maybe an idea?
However, does the person who WANTS the data has that? If the admin is a bit like me, he'll laugh at the request for access to the logs and tell the person who requested log access to take a hike and find something creative instead.
Okay... And when that happens, how long will it be before someone hacks up $random_non_MS_OS to un on said MS BIOS? You're such a doomsday prophet, don't forget that programmers with interests in other OSes aren't going to sit on their arses and moan about it. Someone clever will most likely find a way around the locked down MS BIOS...
... and then get sued to hell and back again by a bunch of MS lawyers waving a copy of the DMCA around. Well, seems like a nice task for non-US people then.
This is precisely what happened when I used to mud a lot -- the people who try to go on and act as spoilers are people who convince themselves that they're playing a one-player game, basically; they don't take part in the communities and [usually] view those communities with great disrespect. They convince themselves that the community ties, social ties, and personality ties (created with characters) are unreal, which is why they can feel ok describing the graphic rape of another player and laugh it off as "just a game." They don't have the investment and can't see it the way other players do.
Oddly enough, I'm one of those people you just decribed, though much more passive in a way. MUDding was a nice thing, I was convinced the internet was a place without power-hungry assholes and various assorted sycophants and MUDding taught me otherwise in the most cruel, devastating and memorable way. 3 years on a MUD has shown me that there simply are NO social or personality ties from mere in game stuff. It's more of a simple aristocracy with some sort of elite ruling class; the people who play the game longer then you, know more admins then you, who met eachother for real unlike you... These kind of people who play the players, not the game, are far worse then those bare few like me who differentiate themselves from emotional ties to net people.
I've seen the most stupid relationships in MUDs form into real marriages, I've seen MUD disputes rage in real life and cause a divorce, I've seen relationships form, grow, wither and die on MUDs. I've seen betrayal over a silly net relationship, envy over in game objects, hatred because of a simple disagreement and bitterness over petty arguements. I ask you; who is off worse? They who take the internet way too seriously or those like me who simply don't care about net people?

Does it show I don't like virus writers?

No, the solution is a sustained artillery barrage at several key locations.
What's next? Viagra advertisements? Mortage deals on Slashdot? HARDCORE XXX TEENS in my journal? ... Wait...
Looks like there will be a new edition to "Slashdotted" in the Jargon File, containing today's server logs just before the server undergoes complete and utter disintergration. Yay!
For normal people who want a normal PC, yes. For hobbyists who want to turn ye old derelict piece 'o junk into a nice PC, no. Think outside the box.
Cheap sweat-shops in Thailand?
Oh dear...

Let me guess, you work at Electronic Arts? That's the only place where they will let someone from marketing touch a PC with actual code on it...
More internet drama no once really cares about! I thought silly religious trolling was limited to usenet?

...this baby or this one, coupled with some of this along with some free time...?
Mmm, 52 square meters of full goatse glory! Remind me to avoid London...
Fuck the fileserver, I'd go for the secretary instead!
What's next? GoogleOS? Google Electronics? Google Nuclear Power Plant? Google Search Engine? Oh wait...
I'd like mine to be in camo colour, with catterpillar tracks, armour plating, twin turbine engine and a machine gun!
Don't they have those Russian T-80 tanks still around from the cold war? Might be an idea...
Of course, you could give the guy who modded the V8 engine a ring instead; 2ghz T-80 anyone?
100mbit/sec transmission speeds for drums.
