  1. Re:Thats such a fallacy on Students Do Better Without Computers · · Score: 1

Hahahaha,....you've obviously never talked to someone who works in IT (such as myself).

You think those "basic" skills are so easily learned?! Hahahaha, PUHHHPLEEEEEZZ. You would be amazed at the level of computer illiteracy at most companies.

Personally, I think a computer class should be mandatory at all highschools. And it should be difficult and required to get a diploma. My life would be infinitaly easier (if not cost me my job!) if this were the case.

  2. Thats such a fallacy on Students Do Better Without Computers · · Score: 4, Insightful

This is just like most bills that get passed to "protect our children", when its not the children that needed protecting or changes in their lives, its the PARENTS.

To say that student is better off having NO computer is not only wrong, but incredibly stupid. Without good computer skills, college and real life is going to be an incredible struggle.

No, the problem isn't the computer, its the parents who don't control the situation and their environment. Granted, if a student with a computer has broadband with not restrictions, and addictive games like WoW, then yes, its going to be very detrimental to their education, but is it the computer's fault? No. Parents need to educate themselves and know/understand how to limit computer usage.

Its sad, but most children/teenagers see computers as nothing more than a toy, or a way to get "free music and movies". Don't blame computers or children, its obviously the parents.

  5. Re:No matter what free will always win... on Would You Pay 5 Cents For a Song? · · Score: 1

Assuming you did find a source with good quality and reliability, theres no guarantee that its absolutely identical to the format/track the musician wanted. Even to that, its still slow, long lines, and its not likely that they have EVERYTHING. If record companies would follow a plan of lower prices, and create a VERY simple, VERY fast solution, then pirating would be easily curbed. Like I said, if a single click gets me an entire album within seconds, for a great price, then I have peace of of mind that its the quality that the musician had intended, and I suffer no risk.

  6. Re:No matter what free will always win... on Would You Pay 5 Cents For a Song? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I'm not so sure about that. Granted free is better than paying even a penny, but regardless going via the "free" route is not only more difficult, but leads you down a road of problems. On the extreme end of the scale you can end up having the RIAA knock down your door. Then theres the problem of having spyware/virii ridden software (to this day I still clean/remove Kazaa from people's computer and slap them on the hand/head). Furthermore, theres the issue of not having an entirely clean track. You have to be concerned about having the right song, having the entire song, and then quality, AND the amount of time it takes to be in the queue and to finally download it. All that for what? To save you a few pennies? Unless you're a complete cheap bastard or simply bent on the idea of ripping off musciains, then a major drop in prices will DEFINATLY help. Essentially if they can devise a system where you are a click and a couple minutes (assuming bandwidth conex) away from getting an album for a couple bucks, then I'm positive that pirating would go down.

I think Halo 2 will be what CounterStrike was for the PC, if for anything because of its online multiplayer. With online scoreboards, rankings, and clan capability, this is going to be quite the game.
