    considering the cost difference of extremely cheap mass produced pressed CD's versus CD-RW, a tight-wad corporation already going down the drain with their dying dial-up service, is hardly likely to do that anytime soon ;-)

    Tell them to mark any and all AOL mail "RETURN TO SENDER" and AOL will bear even greater costs, at no cost to the consumer."

    because unless return postage is garanteed by AOL for those mailings (which i don't believe is the case), the post office will just toss them in the trash.

    The average american that uses Linux has also always had many choices of nation-wide ISP's, and been able to connect to them (which you couldn't at the time with AOL, you'd be required to use their proprietary client. on Windows/Mac.)

    nor was it a powerful multi-user, multi-threaded, with any local security, or running a enterprise class web server, file server, mail server, or ported to any other platforms besides the x86.
    MS-DOS is nowhere near at the same level, for comparison, and the argument is totally 'apples and oranges.'

    I beg to differ on that naive assumption. put a few of those drives in a raid config, and they become great storage for enterprise networks (network user folders, mail servers at companies with idiot CEO's that email 20mb powerpoint files to everyone in the company, etc.), or for people that do digital video production and editing. Piracy and porn are not the only uses for mass storage.

    I can understand your argument about leaving it the way it looks now, which i support in part too, but - i think it's also great to get the ball rolling toward moon travel.. exploration.. habitation.. etc.

    Besides, i think it would be cool to see blinky lights from earth, once there was colonizing cities there. ..c'mon now..as a geek..you know it's all about the blinky-blinky lights in the dark. :-)

    that's absolutely untrue, 1.x runs beautifully on my Mac OS X machine, and especially under Windows since it's loaded into memory ahead of time like how IE's done it.

    And when i say it runs beautifully, i'm talking about on a 450mhz PowerPC G4 w/ 384mb of RAM, and a 800mhz AMD w/ 128mb of RAM.

    works with sendmail or qmail or whatever, that filters out the spam messages and autoforwards the message to a list of congressmen, etc with a message "want my vote? make this type of UCE illegal like in Europe".

    i wouldn't go as far as to say we'd be forced to use nuclear weapons, but it more likely would force use to take out enemies that would use such things - first. Like in how we're already looking at going back to Iraq or anywhere else that would harbor and develop terrorism.
