A lot of folks used to love the art of the hack, and they're railing in the dust these days. So much of what we do now has nothing to do with hacking. The creativity has escaped out into the vacuum of the business world ....

see thats the problem, what got the industry to this point is not some fly by night club goer who works only 9-to-5. what got the industry this far was the hackers. it was the Tech Model Railroad club and the Home Brew Computer Club. it was not companies like Xerox or IBM who shitted away more good ideas than god knows what .....
I personally think we need to get back to that. rather than restricting and constricting we need to get back to being creative thinkers and tinkerers.

and we need to keep our jobs here so we can eat. you can't be creative when your hungry.

the basic breakdown is the more power a CPU needs the hotter it will run (generally speaking). hopefully the opteron and athlon64 will help sut down on the need for Xtreme cooling.

..... there is one major flaw in your thought. that is that is is somehow helpful for women to have their own "little clique" and men must share their's.

despite what everyone seems to think BOTH sexes should be treated equally. meaning if women can have women only clubs so can men, if men have men only classes/schools etc so should women. sometimes a little separation is a good thing, i personally can't stand having my girlfriend or mother or whoever underfoot constantly, and sometimes i would much rather sit back with the boys and watch a football game (cliche' but true)

the only men who dont feel the need for "away time" from women are the ones who aren't around them alot to begin with, the same for women.

and dont quote or reference studies, papers, or ideas. because its not a fact, and i can probably dig up something that states the exact opposite within 15 minutes on google.

oh and call me a sissy or whatever, but men sometimes need a place to go where they dont feel "pressured" by women. its not just men pressuring/hitting on women. it works both ways.

as a matter of fact IIRC anything in the kernel is GPL'ed so i KNOW sco's code is not in the kernel, code based on SCO's code might be, but that wont stand in court. however it is known to be fact that AIX, solaris etc ... use SCO's code.

i have not yet heard about anyone asking for bush to be impeached. but i do find it ironic that he is breaking international law to start a war over someone breaking international law.

protestors are not funded. they either go and protest or they dont. simple.

so unless 100% of everybody else approves you numbers are off. and judging by the number of people protesting your numbers are WAY off. even if "only" 40% of US citizens disapprove of this war about 90% of the rest of the world not only dissapproves of the war, but is hating us more for it.
