It sounds nice when something happens you like, but in reality the courts are simply there to interpret the law as written... not just do whatever they feel is best. We have lawmakers who are supposed to work 'in the public interest'. Admittedly, they are not... but fixing that should be the priority, not making some new legislative/executive branch combo out of the court system.
Selling via the web may sound cool, but at least one state (Texas) requires that a retail automobile purchase be conducted through a brick-and-mortar dealer.
I can't think of any state worse in which to try to sell this car... I don' think they're worried.
I've lived all my life in countries that use the metric system, so I have to ask... does the pound have an "official reference" like the kilogram?
Yes, it is one of those Kilogram weights, cut into a piece about 45.359237% smaller
I am not saying US gun laws make sense 100% but in this case I think they can not be blamed.
I agree... US gun laws are not to blame for these murder sprees, they have them in other countries. US gun laws are to blame for the thousands of other yearly deaths.
But this specific handful at VT? No, you are right.
If you read my post, I wasn't defending his actions, but defending the US medical system. He shouldn't have traveled, but the US medical system is very good.
Tuberculosis causes dementia as is shown here by the illogical desire to get to the U.S. for medical treatment
I'm sorry, but what? Do you honestly not believe the US has the best hospitals, doctors, and medical research in the world?
I'm not saying it is the best system for everyone, or that the health insurance system is the best... but in terms of doctors, surgeons, and medical research.. the US is where you'd want to go.
I think the point of the title was that Wii-most hacking is being covered by 'big-time' media. (WSJ)
But what do I know, I just used common sense.

And there would be no penalty for warning others of a speed trap, either. They don't arrest you for saying to someone, "don't rob a bank, the police will get you!" so why should saying "don't drive fast, you'll get a ticket" be any different?
Do you honestly not understand the difference? Telling someone to drive the speed limit is still legal... however, you are warning people who are already breaking the law, that they will be caught.
I assure you, if someone already has robbed a bank, and you tell them to go a certain way to avoid a cop... you will be prosecuted.
Hi, I'm not a physicist, and I didn't read the article, but I think I can help you out
Could that help explain human temporal perception (you can "feel" time slow down or time flies by when having fun)?
No
Can our consciousness span more or less of these other dimensions of time at need?
No
Would this help explain the apparent causality problem of neuromuscular control (humans seem able to send the neural command to catch the ball before our senses could have delivered the signal that it should be caught)?
No
Could the existence of extra time dimensions have implications regarding the existence of free will?
No
However, it sounds like they are still tentative. The dumb thing is, DRM does much more for Apple than it does for EMI. Basically, they've created a group of consumers who are locked into continuing to use Apple's Store. This increases Apple's power and bargaining position.
If they were smart, they'd remove DRM ASAP, so consumers could eventually have choice about where to buy music.. which would make the stores compete for the business of EMI.
Oh well, I think they're too blind to realize this, so they'll continue to march off the cliff
Regulating certain types of content to certain ports isn't forcing people to do anything
So... wait... these regulations aren't enforced? You don't have to follow them? Regulation is the definition of forcing.
What if the government said only licensed stores could sell the works of authors it didn't like? Or regulated these works to certain sections of a store?
Is it considered censorship that adult movies can't be rated G?
No, because the rating system is done by private entities. If you want to make an unrated movie... go ahead. The MPAA is private, and can give you their 'seal of approval' if they like, or not... same thing like consumer reports. The point is, they aren't the government, and it isn't required
Is it censorship that pornography is not allowed in the.gov TLD?
I'm going to plead ignorance on that one... but I would say no. The government saying what can happen on its property is different than it saying what can happen on yours
Just because it has to be segregated does't mean it is censored.
"Just because its separate doesn't mean it isn't equal".... Sorry, that just doesn't fly. The point is, censorship is the government requiring people do things with their speech or artistic expression. If some people don't want to see pornography, they should block it. They shouldn't have the government force everyone to act in a certain way.
Remember, that is also contrary to the claims of almost everyone on slashdot too... So many times I've heard that P2P increases sales. Since everyone has an "I found this band and bought the album" story.
Another even more reckless point is that Wal-Mart stated that inclimate weather is no longer an excuse for being late for work
Is it really though? Now-a-days weather should never make you late. It can make you not show up... but with weather forecasting, it isn't like you can't plan ahead anymore. If you have to drive slower, leave earlier.
Either it is too dangerous, and you don't show up, or it isn't, and you plan your trip accordingly.

Dear Ask Slashdot, I'm a university student, and my university didn't accept my gold bullion as pre-payment for a dorm room. What can I do?

Interestingly enough, this sort of thing makes "regular" people the victim of what celebrities have had to endure increasingly for a long time.
Poor them, they only get fame and millions of dollars as compensation.

just revert automatically to autopilot and only take commands from the ground Genius, now the terrorists just attack the control tower.
Yippee for burning more fuel! I guess somebody didn't get the memo about reducing our nation's dependence for foreign oil.
You realize planes don't just always fly in straight lines between cities right?

Sweden might have anything from below one percent of the worlds uranium, up to almost 20 percent.
I smell a "liberation" coming!
Yes, next question
This is easy.

How many times do we have to screw up an ecosystem
Don't worry, come winter the apes will all freeze to death.
It is still dangerous no matter how slow you drive.
Honestly now... my post was very small, and only had two things in bold... what was the second one?

I think it would take alot more than ONE substance to accurately reproduce the scent of the Jersey Shore
I don't think so, most people say it just smells like shit.
