  1. This is not a new thing for Sony on The PS3's "Yellow Light of Death" · · Score: 1

Early PS1 and PS2 models also had a tendency to fail after several years- long enough that they'd be outside the coverage of any warranty, but not long enough that you had moved on to the next gen by that point. Either
A)It's actually something to do with all models and the replacements just aren't used long enough to be worn out
B)They just learn to make them more durable as time goes on
    or
C)They deliberately go with flimsier parts for launch models to cut costs, then go for more durable parts later on as the costs of other parts of the console go down.

I would guess that it's a combination of all three.
Regardless, you certainly can't compare it to the failure rate/average lifetime of the 360.

It's sad that they didn't manage to make any levels even close to that awesome in Assault.

Apologies, I mean "fail" as a synonym for "suck", or that it fails in my eyes.

And yes, I am usually connected to the internet, however, I purchased episode 1 retail with the intent of having something to play when I was dragged off at some godforsaken place where there were no internets for a week under the pretense of a 'vacation' (thinking that I had heard somewhere that it only demands to phone home once a week.) I played through it in a couple of days, and then when wanting to play it some again a couple of days later while still at the internet-less place, I attempted to play, and got the message 'this operation cannot be done in offline mode'. So I found myself in a situation where I could play the pirate version of the original HL1 I had on me, but not the legit version of its sequal. Well, that'll teach *me* to actually spend money on one of Valve's games. And to think, as I was playing E1 I was just considering actually going and buying the legit version of HL2!

Seriously, people, stop making copy protection systems that treat your users like pirates. It doesn't do anything to stop piracy and just pisses off legit users.

Maybe we'ere queued and they just don't want to say it, or maybe it's just taking that long to get the character list. After we finally get the character list, we get the loading screen. The blue bar fills up... and we wait another 10-20 minutes.

Sometimes we get to play. Other times we get disconnected after the blue bar (perhaps our connection timed out?)

Honestly, I don't think character transfers are the answer. They just need more powerful hardware running the server. Or something like that.

Second off, changing direction was a pain, you had to stop, pull out the Ocarina of Time^H^H^H^H^HWind Waker and play that song. EVERY TIME.

Third, because of the implementation of the sailing itself (the "sail" being an item you have to have out), you could do only two things while sailing: jump, and rotate the camera. Wooo. It would be much more bearable if you could pull out your bow and perform sail-by shootings, or pull out your telescope and sightsee (which is otherwise a completely useless item who functionality is actually duplicated by the camera you get later.) And the chance of coming back to a shark munching on your ass was just barely high enough to make getting up and getting something to eat/going to the bathroom a bad idea.

Remember, the whole reason why RPGs had battle transitions in the first place is because the technology wasn't there for them to make the battles look as pretty as they wanted to on the same screens that the players explored (imagine FF1 if the battles took place on the map screens. Now imagine FF1 if you walked on the map with the same character sprites you had in combat. Get the idea?)
