Anyone own a Sony pocket reader? For 199$ it's able to read epub, pdf and html. I was thinking it might be worth a try since there is a ton of classic books I'd like to read (lovecraft, dickens, verne, etc.).
For about the same price I could also get a ipod/iphone touch, anyone using them as readers?
Any Idea how the uplink is supposed to work? Can thousands of 45cm dish all communicate with the satellite at 36,000km simultaneously? I know that years ago you needed a DSL/Dial-up connection for the uplink, is the not the case anymore?
They do mention 6 different *activated* devices, which probably means you can deactivate one of the devices once you reach the limit in order to use the book on a new device.
This is just speculation as they don't specifically mention it on the website, but I suspect it works similarly to iTunes.
Was in Hiroshima for the holidays and decided to get a DS. To my dismay, they were *sold out* at every major electronic store I went! (Yamada denki, Deo Deo, etc)
I think Nintendo's holiday sales figures will be huge in Japan.
Can you see the flag or other objects left behind on the moon from the Apollo missions?
Unfortunately the answer to this question is no. Not even the most powerful telescopes ever made are able to see these objects. The flag on the moon is 125cm (4 feet) long. You would require a telescope around 200 meters in diameter to see it. The largest telescope now is the Keck Telescope in Hawaii at 10meters in diameter. Even the Hubble Space telescope is only 2.4 meters in diameter. Resolving the lunar rover, which is 3.1 meters in length, would require a telescope 75 meters in diameter. So our backyard 6 inch and 8 inch telescopes are not even going to come close!"
Really wish they would have fixed the search function for websites that use frames. Searching the sun javadocs with firefox has proven to be a very frustrating experience...
ifilm is showing a banned superbowl commercial for the Wynn casino. The commercial is just him standing on top of his casino saying it's the first time he's put his name on one. Seems pretty harmless, anyone know why it was banned?
Of course, slashdot stopped covering it when it settled. MSFT paid the kid for the domain name, and agreed to redirect all the traffic to the old site to his new one (MikeRoweForums.com IIRC).
Projectors are nice, but using them in daylight is pretty much impossible. Plus replacement bulbs, which are only good for 2000h/3000h on average, will cost you between $500 and $900.
Actually the ads aren't louder but they do have more impact. This is mostly due to sound compression, where the softer parts of the ads are raised a few decibels in order to reduce the dynamic range of the sound.

Bet you're pretty pissed about the kids on your lawn too eh?

(there were plenty of PSPs thought...)
And it can be yours for the low low price of $34.95!
:p
Act now!!
Slashdot getting low on funds?
Just hold the shift key when you pop in the cd. Or better yet, disable the windows autorun "feature".
Whoever thought that running unverified code from a cd automatically without warning the user was a good idea should be shot.
I disagree. How many sports do you know of where the competitor knows nothing about the playing field?
For Firefox running on Windows, hover your mouse over any address in your dropdown bar and press shift-delete. Problem solved! :)
There is an interview with chemist George Whitesides, one of the authors of the paper in question, at sciencefriday.com for those interested.

probably wouldn't touch him, professional courtesy and all...
Sneakemail is you friend.
Perhaps the writers for the show read Arthur C. Clarke 's The City and the Stars published 15 years beforehand...

Any fixes/plugins out there to patch this?

backup2l does a great job at figuring out which files are new or have been modified for incremental backups. Easy to configure a very lightweight.

Amen brother, I don't go anywhere without my mutated anthrax... for duck huntin'
I also am in Japan but get the access denied page. I guess it depends how reliably the website detects your IP's geolocation.
Of course you can always check out the google cache if you're desperate.
Yeah, and, like did ya see what Sun was wearing today? Ugh Sun is such a whore.
