So you're saying that software works well enough as it is and we therefore shouldn't make an effort to improve it? That seems kind of silly to me.

Assuming Microsoft does actually want to clean up their act, which I'm highly skeptical about, it seems that they'd be criticized for forcing updates just as much as they would for not trying to make adoption of the updates widespread.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the Python license wasn't GPL-compatible in the early 2.x versions. Becasue of this distros shipped w/ 1.52 (the lastest GPL-compatible version at the time). Python used a GPL-compatible license for 2.1 and later though so it shouldn't be an issue anymore.

If groups like Redomnd Linux keep making improvements, the linux desktop will keep getting better and more compelling. I admit I only use the linux desktop to toy around right now, but I can definitely see it being viable in the future. Why does everyone have to say that linux on the desktop is dead? Obviously if you don't like it, you don't have to use it. I'll bet that there are pleanty of people that do use it and welcome any improvements. (Okay, I'm starting to rant)
