A home user (meaning non hacker) never has the need to recompile a kernel. NEVER. Your distribution has all the modules available and if you're running the more popular distros, they will even detect your hardware and load the module for you.
Sometimes people shouldn't mess with stuff, the kernel is one of those things. RedHat does a good job with their builds and an average user doesn't need to rebuilt it at all. A more experienced user might want to tweak, but then he can use make menuconfig or make config...and choose his options.
Actually apple doesn't own the Sorenson(spelling) codec. That's from the company named the exact same as the codec.
Apple owns quicktime which is just a container.
If I walked into a Best Buy and walked out with a computer sans payment, they would have lost merchandise, that costs them money. If I were to download ONE song off of kazaa or morpheus or gnutella, it's like me jumping them fence at woodstock like so many people did. No one lost merchandise, they lost a potential sale.
In case of the RIAA, it wouldn't have been a potential sale for me because i wouldn't buy a cd because i like just ONE song on it.
These potential sale losses are a joke. No one lost any money! If they are betting their entire corporation on "well we can sell 1 million of these and we make money", that's no worse than microsoft giving away xboxes and expecting to make it up in game sales.
I wouldn't call Toy Story 2 anime...it's wholy computer generated, the style isn't anime style. In my opinion, anime is a very specific style or group of styles. It saddens me when I see more and more anime being replaced by computer graphics.
I haven't seen one done right yet (except Vampire Hunter: D, you couldn't really tell that the background art was generated).

Ghost for Unix

HOw is this a solution? It means taking apart machiens to ghost them. In a college lab environment where students are constantly messing with settings, there's no reason to have to pull drives. This works, ghost doesn't.
1. Microsoft distributes separately from a Windows Operating System Product to
update that Windows Operating System Product;
Doesn't this make MS Office Middleware as well? If so, does this mean opening up their file format?
Yeah but Game Companies look at the sale of boxes...games push the console.
If I write a game, and want to distribute it for a console...I won't write it for a console that's not sold in a certain country....
that's that.
mmm yes, Doom, Quake, UT, that Star Wars FPS...all intelligent games. Shooting someone from far away always sends me on a mental power trip!
Now Myst and Myst 2 required some intelligence, that I can agree. But FPS?
I hate gaming on my PC. I enjoy lounging on my couch in front of my 60 widescreen Sony VEGA. I hate sitting in an office chair, tapping at keys making a stupid little man run around.
I don't play FPS so it's not a loss to me. I enjoy GTA3 on my console more, I bought a PS2 because I wanted one, why pay more to make my PC play the same games with less comfort?
My computer does all it wants to as is. I can burn discs, play mp3s, compile, read slashdot. That's all I need it for. If I want to play a game, I go into my living room.
I have a bondi blue iMac here that I stripped apart, removed the hard drive, replaced it with w 30 gig drive and added memory.
Total time: 25 minutes.
I tried that with an older gateway I had and it took about the same time.
Apple's aren't THAT hard to service folks, time for a new argument.
I think this should be modded up. I agree completely with his views.
I like the concept of using it as a way of gaining an idea of rather your project is going to gain enough interest to continue development or not.
The Pc is already here, it's not like it has to fight for anything. I own a mac too, it does well without the games.
It got here because of games...if the games disappear, then oh well, the pc is still here.
I just saw C++.NET at Best Buy for like $79...they aren't giving me much of a deal...i just am not paying for the ugly box that microsoft charges me for:)
I don't play games...the game market can go to hell for all I care. This is a cheap box, one that I can use for any number of things including linux development. I can throw it in the corner and have a mp3 server...
I don't buy things for games. There's no reason to.

My grandmother will never recompile her kernel.
my to do list hasn't grown because I was one of the unfortunate who have been laid off...

Sorry, it's a bad business plan.

You can have access if you have your "Listeners License"

Trillian Pro also does Yahoo Video...you need to pay for that :)
Other than that, the RSS feeds are just about the only thing extra you get with it.
I picked up Debian as my first distro...
It didn't suck then, it doesn't suck now.
It was what I expected from Linux, rough around the edges but stable as all hell.
That was close to 6 years ago

Read RedHat's response on what they are doing...seems only cosmetic changes really...

We have Tim Horton's in Rochester, NY :)
No need to be a canadian in order to get some of the world's best donuts!
BelleVue is a couple minutes outside of Redmond. :)
He probably isn't even selling his house for this move. He just drives a different route each day

You, sir, need anger management. Breathe, hold it in...keep holding it till I say when. i'll be back when it's over.
PORK!!!! I did this, it rocks. It's on my wall right now. Now I need a Fake Monkey Automaton next to it...

I get modded offtopic for pointing out a troll. I see moderators are doing their jobs well.
